This is so beautiful. She was bullied on the bus at school because of skin this and did this self love exercise. She’s so beautiful and I hope she realizes it. You’re a diamond young black girl. Don’t let anyone or anything steal your joy!
😭😭 yes sunshine, you are beautiful.
i’m not crying
I hope this goes viral and other young black girls/women struggling with a lack of self love adopt this exercise
love.
it’s such a disservice to the American human experience that we have this one word that’s supposed to mean so many different things on so many different levels.
that said, knowing that loving and being in love are different, can you love someone you don’t know? can you love someone without knowing their darkness and light? how they are when they’re upset, angry, happy, sad? without knowing what moves them or what makes them smile after a long day?

Maude Callen on duty.
In December 1951, LIFE published one of the most extraordinary photo essays ever to appear in the magazine. In W. Eugene Smith’s pictures, the story of a tireless South Carolina nurse and midwife named Maude Callen working in the rural South in the 1950s. She served as “doctor, dietician, psychologist, bail-goer and friend” to thousands of poor (most of them desperately poor) patients — only two percent of whom were white.

I swear, sometimes I don’t know the difference between emotions that I am capable of feeling and emotions that I’ve conditioned myself to perform at the appropriate times as a coping skill.
