First, thank you very much! I will always recommend studies by other artists, observe what you like about them and try to replicate and understand it and then apply it. I am guided a lot by my instinct, but as a technique I like to put all the base colors on one layer to harmonize them and render on another layer above. I don't know if this helps you.
