(A Trick: Hype up a designer that you love, talk about why you like them, and tell us why we should check them out!)

The odds of me coming up with a designer whose work I love that you haven't come across, Mint, seem slim to none, so instead I'll shout out a designer who is not only very good at what she does but also genuinely lovely, from the times we've chatted.

Rori Montford (of Montford Tales) is a name you should be familiar with if you've delved at all into the solo-journaling side of TTRPGs. She's the author of Dead Letter Society (a game about vampires writing letters to each other) and The Almanac of Sanguine Paths (which adds werewolves into the mix in a similar format). She's also recently crowdfunded Asher's Ridge, a paranormal drama TTRPG (think Twin Peaks, The X-Files or Stranger Things) set in the eponymous fictional town of Asher's Ridge, making use of letter tiles as a core mechanic.

Her two solo games make excellent use of tarot and are incredibly evocative - while I haven't made a tarot-based game yet, I will definitely be referencing them when I do. And, as a sucker for interesting mechanics, I love the idea of making use of letter tiles in a TTRPG.

Oh, also she does all the art for her games and I will be forever jealous of the map of Asher's Ridge she made:

First solo RPG journal entry. More happened on this day but I kind of got caught up in illustration.

Writing included below:

Day 1: August 18th, 735 (Barovia)

I woke up choking on memories that weren't supposed to exist anymore. My hand went to my throat before I'd even opened my eyes, fingers scrambling for the wounds that should have been there. Strahd's claws had torn through my neck like I was made of paper, and I'd felt every second of it. the crushing pressure, the wet heat of my own blood, the way the world had gone gray and then black and then nothing.

I found myself back on Old Svalich Road, lying in the mud, with Mustard purring in my pack like nothing had ever happened. But it did happen. I died. Strahd killed me. And worse, so much worse, he knew. I can't stop thinking about the look in his eyes when he did it. Not anger. Not even betrayal, though Hala knows I'd earned that, trying to help Azalin escape. No, it was recognition. Like he'd finally seen through whatever veil had been hiding the truth from him all these cycles.

He knows whose soul resides in me.

And he's going to hunt me for it. I know he will. The way he looked at me in those final seconds - it was the same fevered desperation I've seen him turn on Tatyana's reincarnations. That obsessive, all-consuming need that burns through everything else. I'm not a curiosity anymore. Not useful. Not safe. I'm prey.

Gods, I can't got back o the castle. I may never be allowed to see Rahadin again. I don't know how to be in Barovia without that anchor.

So after seeing the setup I did for my journal in December my mom decided she wanted something similar, and I wanted to do something different.

So we have the middle ground, where I designed some stickers on canva and cut so many pieces of washi tape that my friend called me masochistic for it.

But it's a pretty spread, and I'm very happy with the outcome, and so was my mom.

Future Log

With the exception of the pocket watch, I've had these stickers for two years. They're actually from an advent calendar, and I knew the moment I saw them I wanted to use them for a future log.

Not sure why it has taken this long to do that though.

The pocket watch is nearly a year older than the rest of the stickers. It was just a single die cut sticker, I had no idea why I wanted it, but it finally got used.

Also, I really need to learn to not put in the month in which the journal starts in. It didn't need a January section and I could have shoved everything back so I could have a future me section for anything that would not fit.

I don't know why I keep making that mistake.

Second of my Inkvent inks: Turquoise by Pelikan!

The booklet that I decided to use for swatches clearly hates ink. It does this weird kind of grey feathering. So I'm also including some other types of paper (cardstock and my todo list for today).

Just a good blue (which is my favorite color) with lots of shading. I will compare it to Diamine Marine later this week. I feel like they are pretty similar? Maybe this is more liquid.

I like what it does on the cardstock (second image), where it gets an almost purple outline.
