Prianna's currently staring at her tarokka cards on the floor of her room, having mentally assigned cards to certain people, and keeps shuffling the cards around to try and make "the list".

I just really want people to know

Prianna was given a choice by a woman made of mists - a spokesperson of the Dark Powers.

They want her to get the fuck out of Barovia (it was said so much more eloquently than that).

She has one moon's phase to either reject or accept their offer of "the guaranteed safety of those you consider to be your clan". If she accepts this, and also accepts to leave Barovia, she has to bring these people with her to a specific place along the misty border, and enter with them all into a new place (created for her).

It's the end of this particular campaign and everyone's choosing what they're getting ready to do, so... this is it. Either she buckles in and goes for another cycle, or I shift her into a new way of life entirely (as a new darklord??? she doesn't realize this but I dooooo).

It would make her "thing that sealed her status as darklord" to be "I sacrificed hundreds of people I cared for over centuries, just to save a handful of people I selfishly care about more". She can't just pack up all the NPCs in the valley, she's got to choose.

DM says that number of people is 10. This sounds like a lot of people, but 3 of them include her daughters already. Each party member, if she agreed to save them too, would bring that number to 7.

And everyone's like "HAHA CASSIDY WHAT AN EASY THING TO TURN DOWN! JUST SAY NO!" And if I'm honest, guys, I think she'd take the deal. She's lived through well over a decade (my real life time) of different lifetimes, and I think she has zero hope that she'll ever fix anything. And she's desperately craving newness and the feeling of life going forward instead of being just another repeated cycle.

... and I don't think she'd save the adventurers she's with. (lol they know this though and are already planning their own separate story endings)

I won't be commenting anything about the new Ravenloft book until widespread release day. I don't want to spoil anyone waiting for it.

But I will let you know that my wife got me black bean tortilla chips for "spooky nachos", and the stuff to make a neon pink sparkling punch (to match the colors of the art). She also dug the bat-shaped cookie cutters out for something.

I might make a playlist based around "Ramalama (Bang Bang)" by Róisín Murphy to accompany my vibes.

I will be having THE TIME OF MY LIFE while I flip through it.

I'm SO excited to finally share these pieces I created for D&D's Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.

This project was such a huge honor to work on. I remember as a kid looking through the players manuals & doing little studies of the artwork in there, so this feels a bit full-circle. You can get a peek at higher-res versions of them on my insta!

D&D Character Journal: Lángos

Prianna’s Favorite Recipes from Other Domains: 25 / 25

There is a difference between knowing something is part of you and truly understanding what that means. I was always Vistani, even if I was raised away from it. It took finding my own people within Barovia to begin to embrace that part of myself. Even now, there are moments where I feel like I am standing just at the edge of it, watching rather than belonging. Then there are nights by the fire, music carried easily between wagons, with shared meals passed from hand to hand, and I feel that distance close. Just for a little while. Lángos is one of those bridges for me. Fried dough, simple at its core, yet transformed by what is layered on top. I brush it with garlic while it is still hot, let sour cream soften into its surface, and finish it with a scattering of farmer's cheese. It's made to be shared, eaten with laughter, with stories. I don't think I will ever feel wholly like I was raised within it. There are gaps in me that cannot be filled by a single recipe or a single evening. With every dish, every story, every shared moment, I find another thread to hold onto. Slowly, piece by piece, I begin to weave myself back into something that feels like home.

I have never walked the Wildlands myself. The writings I've seen in Strahd's library speak of dense green canopies, air thick and hot, and a constant chorus of animal calls. There is no sense of separation between people and their surroundings there, no illusion of control. I have read those pages more than once, studying stories of meals shaped by what is available in the moment. You can't predict what a jungle will provide. It's through trade that I have come to know plantains, carried carefully in Vistani caravans and treated as the gold they are. I was taken by them immediately, not just for the flavor, but for their gorgeous colors. Soft and sweet when ripened, firm and starchy when young, they're able to shift between roles depending on how they are handled. Plantain fritters became my favorite way to work with them, mashed and shaped, then fried until golden, crisp at the edges and tender within. I cannot say if I have done them justice, not without having stood in that land myself, but they have earned a place in my kitchen all the same.

Verbrek isn't a kind place. I went there because I had to, not because I would ever choose it. What I found was not just danger, but something far more unsettling. The men had been shaped into werewolves, and that alone isn't enough to unsettle me. But they were pressed into a life that demanded they abandon softness, abandon memory, abandon anything that might tether them to who they once were. Their leader spoke of strength, instinct, and of shedding weakness. And... they listened, some of them too well. But not all of them. There were moments, quiet and quickly hidden, where something else surfaced. Maybe it was a hesitation, a glance that lingered too long on a pot, or on the simple act of something being prepared rather than torn apart. That is where this dish lives. A beef shank, set low over embers, no seasoning to speak of, just heat and time. It fits the expectations placed upon them, something raw and killed for their sustenance. But it is still cooked and tended. Someone has to watch it, turn it, wait for it, and to choose patience over instinct, even if only for a little while. I remember the way they hovered, some of them trying to appear disinterested, others unable to hide it at all. The smell alone was enough to draw them in, something deeper than the sharpness of fresh blood. When it was done there was no acknowledgment of what it meant. They ate quickly, as if afraid of being seen wanting it.
