ENG: The map of 1556 explains a lot. The (then Hapsburg) Netherlands nearly stretching south to Amiens account for a number of odd placenames in Northern France; the orange enclave in the South of France is the Principality of Orange, property of the later Stadtholder of the Netherlands, William of Orange: the Dutch-Orange connection. NL: De kaart van 1556 verklaart veel, zoals de aanwezigheid van een aantal vreemde Franse plaatsnamen in Nord en Pas de Calais waar de zuidgrens van de (dan Habsburgse) Nederlanden nog bijna bij Amiens ligt. De oranje enclave in Zuidoost-Frankrijk is het Prinsdom Oranje, bezit van de latere stadhouder Willem van Oranje.

NL: Deze foto is kennelijk genomen op een steenberg (terril of crassier) in Nord-Pas de Calais door de webmaster van laforteressesolaire.tumblr.com Zo niet, dan laat het toch zien wat voor krachtige foto's je kunt maken in het kolenbekken. Plus qu’une simple usine, l’ancienne entreprise Essef était un temple. Le temple du papier-peint. Véritable poumon économique de Balagny-sur-Thérain , l’entreprise à bout de souffle et surtout en manque de commandes a rendu l’âme fin 2006. Plus de 130 emplois sont alors partis en fumée, sonnant le glas de cet établissement familial créé en 1881. Les imposantes machines ont alors été vendues aux enchères puis dispersées un peu partout, au grand dam des employés.

Depuis lors, l’immense site qui abrite de nombreux entrepôts est inoccupé. Les quelques bureaux préfabriqués ont été vandalisés au possible et la nature reprend doucement mais sûrement ses droits. Des tags ont fleuri là où des décors muraux ont été produits pendant plus d’un siècle. Il y a peu, un incendie, sans doute volontaire, a même ravagé un des entrepôts.
