Fortune wasn’t something that graced the strategist very often and today wasn’t any exception. Through experience, though, Ignis learned that one had to create their own luck in order to truly be successful. Despite that comfy ideal, no amount of fortune-forging could produce the results he desired: for the rain to stop for the time being. Atmosphere had always been a personal delight that he chose to indulge in on a moderately frequent basis, but right now it was the furthest thing from convenient he could imagine. Their mission was a simple and mundane task, also known as ‘boring’. The tedious walk was going to benevolently complimented by humidity, smearing and smudging puddles of mud and a dark overcast that could possibly make their job harder if the clouds decided to block out the moon and stars should their objective be reached at night. This wasn’t particularly the first selection he would of made for a beginning mission given his extensive experience outside of this army he had joined. Ignis was no stranger to the order of things and knew that he and this other new guy were going to have to pull more than their own weight to get the respect and expectations that they wanted.
Ignis leisurely looked skyward as his feet moved at a gentle yet efficient pace. Droplets of rain dotted his glasses, landing in small splashes as he observed the clouds and began determining their trajectory. Their Mission Object was north of their meeting point and, much to the man’s expectations, the clouds happened to be traveling in the same direction with no indication of easing to a mist. While the soft lull of the world being decorated with transparent beads of water was endearing to him, Ignis had to admit that traversing a longer distance in it wasn’t his favorite thing in the world to do. While it was to early to determine, he suspected that the light showers would eventually evolve into storming conditions. Much to the saboteur’s disdain, the most danger they’d probably encounter would be some brand of sickness.
As he neared the structure, his eyes caught the windows that exposed to him the interior. The pitch black that he noted inside meant the power was out. The man had to wonder if his partner for the current mission was nestled there in the darkness. If it were him, he’d probably be resting up. Of course the man he’d have to work with this time around wasn’t him. What kind of guy was this partner of his anyways? Was he even a ‘he’ at all? While these questions teased his mind, ultimately, it wasn’t a very important factor in being successful with the first mission. Ignis found that he was pretty tolerable of others; at least publicly. It was always easier to keep relations of any kind fairly simple since complicating things tend to get people either nervous or mischievous. He stepped into the facility, looking up and opening his eyes from the thoughts that had been occupying his mind. As he did, he was met by a figure tumbling down the stairs and coming to a halt just in front of him.
“Laguna Loire I presume?”
The commando just laid there for a moment, cursing to himself quietly at coincidence. Maybe if he closed his eyes that stranger would go away - nope; still there. Laguna stood with a sheepish grin. "A-ah...yeah. Yeah I'm Laguna Loire. This isn't how I am in the field; really." He wasn't a very good liar. "You're Ignis? That was your name, right? I'm ready to go if you are! Haha...ha." Shuffling weight and picking up the automatic weapon that had plummeted down the stairs in his wake, he proceeded to check to make certain it was still in working order. The commando had to figure out a way to escape this awkward situation; find a way to retrieve what was left of his dignity, and fast.
"Looks like it's still okay! We can make little talk on our way there, for now - let us be off!!"
With that, Laguna threw the sling of the machine gun around his shoulder and began a triumphant march toward a pair of doors at the end of the hall; If only his way with words were as remarkable as this illusion of confidence. It sure was a beautiful day.
