Veronica Mars Movie thoughts...
So I liked the movie, but it was totally flawed in many many ways.
So the movie itself? felt like an extended episode of the show, although because they also had to take what would probably have been 3/4 episodes worth of plot for certain plot points (mainly the Veronica / Logan stuff) and condense it into a movie... it felt weird. I rolled my eyes a lot. A LOT. There were a lot of fleeting moments, and it would have been nicer to focus more on a few main characters, rather than drag so many older ones back - but I also get why they did that, without it Weevil may not have been back at all - while to us that feels like the worst crime, Weevil to a lot of people is not an important character. But more on him later.
I felt bad for Piz, and the Logan / Veronica stuff moved way too quickly.... and was all far too much fan service - seriously the fucking uniform? WHAT. Yeah, like I said, I rolled my eyes a lot. lol.
I enjoyed the Mac/Wallace/Veronica moments most of all, as well as the interactions with Papa Mars... but seriously would Wallace really do that job and would Mac really work at Kane software? that all felt too "convenient" - but there you go.
The bit that really pissed me off (and is slightly to do with behind the scenes politics as far as I can tell) was the Dan Lamb stuff - I may have hated Lamb, but that was Rob and Kristen being a complete arse to Michael in relation to them all parting on bad terms, and Jerry OConnell often getting roles when they were auditioning for the same parts (I believe). Left a slightly sour taste in my mouth, because it felt very dickish!
The Weevil stuff, it was good to see Weevil as a changed man, and so freaking happy... that was a good moment. Although it would have been nice to have him a little more involved in the story. And I dont know if I am happy with the way the movie ended - if he's really got out of the PCH, would he go back? REALLY? It broke my heart a little to see him back in leathers (even if he did look hot). And I really dont understand why it looked like he was leading the gang again, they wouldnt just let him walk back into that role, they are a freaking motorcycle gang. Having said all that, I was totally proud to see Francis acting again. (Remind me to link you to the video messages he sent me from the premier in NY if you missed them on my facebook!)
As for where the movie goes now - totally not "all tied up" but leading us right back in, Keith will run for Sheriff again, Veronica is taking over the family business... (although wont this create a confict between them? And then there is the whole "season long" mystery of the corruption. UGH. I just dont know what to think.
Despite everything I've written here, I didnt hate it. It just made me miss the show even more, and know that I cannot do without more. Wether thats more movies, a netflix series, books, comics ANYTHING. I just need it in my life somehow.
