one thing i think people miss about lake mungo is a thing people also miss about twin peaks, which is that you limit your understanding by only seeing yourself as the dead girl; sometimes you're one of the people who knew her
I feel like something bad is going to happen to me. I feel like something bad has happened. It hasn't reached me yet but it's on its way.
I am convinced that Alice knew she was going to die. I’m convinced of that. I think the figure at Lake Mungo was an omen for her. I think Ali saw a ghost. But she wasn’t to know it was her own. I believe she recorded the future coming to get her.

Sobbing thinking about Lake Mungo again. They made a whole documentary about her death yet it wasn't ever really about Alice herself. Her family speculates to find closure for themselves while she's stuck in this liminal afterlife, never able to move on in any way that matters.
This whole film just makes me think of how when people (especially young people) die to suicide, it's so often just about how they died and the pain it brings to others, never their pain. Just as nobody cared for Alice's pain, only the mystery surrounding her death. She knew she was going to die and had nobody to tell who would listen.

rewatched lake mungo again so here r my thoughts on the movie as a whole
i think i connect w this movie a lot and regard it as my fav movie because, like alice, i feel like i am a ghost in my life. i feel like something bad has happened and is going to make its way towards me and i am just waiting for it to happen. me and my mother are so alike it scares me that i look at myself in the mirror and see her back. i have so many secrets and things i want to tell people but the horrifying thiught of being percieved for what i am keeps me from it.
growing up my family never hung family photos or photos of any of us up. i think that with one of the major themes in this film being the use of photography it is interesting to think about how that relates to me and my life. i wish that i had pictures of myself througouht my childhood but i also had pretty bad body image issues (still do (also bc of my mother heyyyy)). anyway goes to say that alice is a very near and dear character to my heart and her story is so intresting to me and every rewatch just justifies how exilent this movie is and how much i love it so much. lake mungo you will always be famous
