One morning I was walking and noticed that the sunrise made everything look amazing, and I had to take some time to capture the moment. I went to the roof of a nearby parking garage and started taking pictures of Iowa City in the morning light. I used one of those pictures as the inspiration for this ink drawing. I once again wanted a limited color palette on this one, but didn't want to so severely limit myself as I did on the Seattle picture.
I'm glad I took that time to look around.

I took a trip to Seattle in March of 2024, just to experience a new city. I dropped in to visit with a friend who lives near volunteer park. That night I decided to save some money on a rideshare and walk toward my hotel (near the Space Needle) until I either got tired or nervous and then call for a ride. I didn't end up calling for a ride that night and saw some beautiful night views of the city while walking through the city center. The drawing above was done based on a photo I took crossing over the I-5 on Denny Way. The building that dominates the image on the right side is Metropolitan Park East, as near as I can figure from Google Maps.
In coloring this piece, I wanted to limit my color choices mostly to the relatively small palette of colors available to comic book artists in the Silver Age. I found a digital version of the standard Silver Age color palette at Bluefoot's neocities site (the digital version of the palette was originally put together by the late Ed Piskor).
