SOUL EATER ソウルイーター (2008)
Epstein files discourse has me more convinced than ever that we need to be talking a lot less about "pedophiles" and talking a lot more about child sexual abuse.
I talked about how conservative authoritarians define "pedophilia" as "youth autonomy," but even among less overtly authoritarian communities, the spectre of The Pedophile is, at best, a distraction from the reality of CSA.
"Pedophiles" are a distinct, discrete type of person. They're Not Like Us, but also, they Could Be Anywhere. They're hiding in plain sight among us, lurking and sabotaging. Anyone could secretly one of them. They're queer, they're Jewish, they're vaguely foreign. They conspire. They're a cabal. They have secret signals. They're rich and powerful and secretly control governments, but they're also poor and dirty and hide in alleyways. They're sexually deviant. They're everywhere and nowhere, and you should constantly be on guard against anyone who might be one.
Child sexual abuse, on the other hand, is abuse. It's an action, not a type of person. Anyone can commit it, because it's an abuse of power, and all adults and many other children have power over all children. Any adult has the ability to sexually abuse a child, because every adult has the ability to wield power over any child. Child sexual abuse is part of the continuum of child abuse, which in turn is part of the continuum of abuse, which can be committed by anyone who has the power to commit it.
The Epstein clients are the most prosaic phenomenon in the world. Rich, powerful people trafficked powerless people to force the powerless people to serve them. Rich, powerful people got away with breaking laws. Rich, powerful people uses people as objects -- in this case, as sex objects, but by the same structural mechanisms by which they use people to clean their houses, pick their crops, and assemble widgets in their factories.
It's not A Secret Cabal Of Pedophiles Conspiratorially Running The Government. It's just kyriarchy working as intended. Absolutely, keep up the pressure to release the Epstein files and prove what we already know, but if you're using "pedophiles" in a sentence where "illuminati" would make sense, put down the conspiracy juice and pick up the youthlib juice instead.
It's unlikely that most of the men who went to Epstein Island and abused girls did so because they're primarily attracted to underage women. It's far more likely they did it because a) children are easier to abuse and to keep from talking and b) it's a type of sex they aren't allowed to have and people with that much power hate the idea that there's anything they might not be allowed to do
One thing I noticed is that Fox ends up being stuck with kids, lol! 😆 Diddy, Tricky, and the Lumas. But, we know he’ll do his best for them, even if they can be irritating sometimes. :’3
Welcome back, Spyro! Looking good 🔥 (June '26)
I really love the character dynamic so far. Minato thinks it's easy to find the specific keys to open people's hearts but he's faced with the fact that he can't do that by pretending and faking his persona anymore. Seeing Hikawa open up to Yota so easily and effortlessly while she put up a wall with him is a big slap in the face for him. Yota is everything he wishes to be, everything he pretends to be. He's outgoing and easy to get along with that even Hikawa, the infamous school loner, has become his friend overnight. Minato is way too deep into his belief that he can't accept his methods are wrong and just pathways to "oh so they must be dating" instead of looking into himself, reflect on the words his ex-girlfriend told him that people can tell when someone is not being genuine. Hikawa came from a place of hurt so she's cautious and hyper-aware of when people only pretend to get something out of you so of course she's cautious of Minato. It's so interesting how they're each other's kryptonite yet they're similar in the sense that they're only protecting in their own hearts through different methods; Hikawa repels people while Minato attracts them.
So Ramparts of Ice is doing something I don't think I've really seen before: it's critiquing the kind of pushy good-guy male lead a lot of shoujo and shoujo-adjacent rom-coms have. Guys like this usually come swooping into the hapless heroine's life to fix her emotional problems with relentless kindness- think Kazehaya from Kimi ni Todoke for probably the best-written example of it. But Ramparts of Ice is pointing out that there's a really condescending undercurrent to that trope. It puts the main girl in a bad situation just to make the guy look better for taking pity on her. Like, her emotional distress is just fuel for glazing what a Good Guy her love interest is. And as this show points out, it feels really shitty when someone tries to force that on you! Like, how dare you assume I need help just to make yourself feel like a good person! Especially someone like Koyuki who's built up walls to protect herself, so all Minato's prodding feels genuinely kind of threatening! He thinks he's defrosting the ice queen to save her inner self, but all he's doing is clawing open old wounds she was healing from just fine without him. And because of how damn good this author is at writing realistic teenage psychology, it's extremely uncomfortable to watch. Every time he talks to her makes my skin crawl! It's so well done and I hate it!
A Realm Beyond
His new look’s gonna take some taking used to but I’m still excited he’s getting a new game after all these years of waiting since the Reignited Trilogy! Finally!
Spyro The Dragon + Idle Animations
Spyro trilogy (Playstation) (1998, 1999, 2000)
I just finished playing Spyro for the billionth time. It's my ultimate comfort game. There's something so relaxing about just swimming around in one of the homeworlds in Spyro 2.
Spyro Original Trilogy (1998-2000)
Spyro the Dragon Playstation 1998
I love Skylanders, I grew up with it, but...
The reaction of certain sects of Skylanders fans in regards to the trailer for the new Spyro game is very very annoying, incessantly whining that Skylanders 7, which let's be completely honest to ourselves, was NOT high on TFB's agenda in the first place is really... embarrassing. I hate that this vocal minority is negatively polarising me against a childhood franchise of mine Why are we arguing? We should be happy! With the triumphant return of Spyro, perhaps the same can eventually apply to Skylanders...
I’M SO DAMN EXCITED MY PURPLE BOY IS BACK AND HE CAN FLY!!!
He's back!! My beautiful son!! 💜
I am beyond thrilled we got a new Spyro game!!!
