@lalalaexistence
cozy mornings
The funniest part about unlikeable geek men is they really are fully convinced people don’t like them because of their hobbies. They cannot even begin to process the idea that comics and D&D and shit have in fact always been kinda cool and their personslities might just be repulsive. The combined unwavering ego/persecution complex is... unreal.
“I was socially rejected because I like video games” no tyler, you were socially rejected because you turn every conversation you have into a competition and you call women “females”
emperor kuzco was clearly gay
hes 19, with unlimited power, and he ain’t got a gf. the only time we see him interact with any women his own age is when he’s rejecting like 7 of them rapid fire. he pretends to date pacha in a gag that lasts like 10 solid minutes. listen to me god damnit
Okay, but just in case anyone is coming to tumblr dot com for my hot takes on 20+ year old kids' movies: Kuzco super WAS gay (or at least coded as such) and of course, I didn't get it until I watched it as a gay grownup.
He is played obviously camp and dramatic, for a start, and there is the aforementioned "hate your hair/not likely/yikes yikes yikes/let me guess you have a great personality" summary dismissal of all his potential brides. Then he spends dinner asking Yzma about Kronk ("so he seems nice? He's what, in his late twenties?") and otherwise being slightly obsessed with him.
Then there is the whole Adventure of Doom with Pacha, him being ever huffy about the Kiss of Life, and then the restaurant gag where Kuzco takes to playing Pacha's fake wife and dressing up in ladies' clothing with great gusto (reinforced by the waitress' "bless you for coming out in public" remark when Pacha says they're on their honeymoon). Then when he is finally de-llamafied, we don't see him paired off with the obligatory girl from the lineup earlier, as might otherwise be expected in a Disney movie. Instead he is still single, but goes to found family it up with Pacha, Chica, Kronk, etc, which dare we remark is a very queer trope.
In short, I have no idea how a Disney movie with no white people (all the characters are Indigenous/people of color), a gay king, cross-dressing jokes, and the most offbeat plot of all time actually ever got made (can you imagine the Family Friendly Mouse doing that today? Let us also talk about Kronk because he is a brilliant deconstruction of both toxic masculinity and the musclebound henchman stereotype.) Other than that this was the Chaos Hour of animated movies in the late 90s/early 2000s, and yes.
So yes. There you have it. I will not be taking criticism at this time.
Me, aged 14, reading Tolkien: Hobbits are considered chuldren until they are 30? How funky! Fantasy worldbuilding! This is so different from us humans!
Me, aged 25: Oh i get it now
Me, aged 34: Actually the Hobbits might be rushing things a bit.
the whole “fiction doesn’t affect reality” argument is actually kinda racist…
people talk about like how finding nemo and jaws are great examples but nobody ever talks about how fiction has shaped our perceptions of different racial and ethnic groups like do you think the media has no hand in why alot of ignorant white people think africa is a desertland and not a continent of different countries, full of rich and diverse cultures, beautiful buildings and riches? or why they think asia is only japan, korea and china? when asia is also india, bhutan, the Philippines, nepal, etc? do you think that media and fiction hasnt allowed whites to view black people as ignorant and lazy thru cartoons and minstrel shows? like if you really think what youre seeing on tv doesnt affect reality and how people think then like. you must be fuckin stupid.
there are several studies which prove this by the way. like how black children (and white girls) self esteem is negatively impacted by media. Â
studies show our perception about asian americans, and their perceptions of themselves are impacted by media.
there are harmful psychological effects on native americans thanks to sports mascots.Â
stereotypes of latino/latina/latines in media have - you guessed it - harmful effects - including political onesÂ
how about how inaccurate race and poverty images in the news effect our views on welfare?
positive images of disability effect disabled people positively, where as negative images effect them negativelyÂ
the availability of GLB roles on TV positively impacts the gay community
and i honestly i could go on and on and on and onÂ
i know i know water is wet, all these studies to tell you what common sense could. but like … there is very real research out there that shows fiction has a very real harmful impact on minority communities. and that positive representation has a positive effect on these communities.Â
so no. fiction is never just fiction. and frankly people who think fiction is just fiction can fuck off. Â
Wait this version is better.
this is important to spread around!!! minorities keep asking for positive representation ANYWHERE and THIS IS WHY!!!! it makes us feel like we mean something, like we belong! give me a trans poc disabled kid who is a really skilled hacker or watever GIVE US REPRESENTATION

the ideal of “farms everywhere in every garden!!1!” is a huge selling point of the solarpunk and self-sustainablity communities, especially with farmcore/cottagecore and nature aesthetics being more popular nowadays.
however these posts often overlook a few things
1) we already overproduce food, we don’t need more farms we need better farm and food management.
2) not everyone can farm or wants too. Space, the local environment, disabilities, and lack of interest needs to be acknowledged more. I’m awful with plants no matter how much i love them, and i am certain there are plenty more people who would agree.
3) the idea of farms for everyone and the aesthetic of “everyone having their little plot of land” is not community driven, and sadly comes from a place of colonialism. YES a cute lil cottage with a chicken pen out the back and a garden out the front is cute, but this is not possible for everyone on the planet.
4) NATURAL DIVERSITY IS VERY IMPORTANT. instead of making everyones garden into a food forest, we should aim to grow more native plants and help cultivate the natural environment.
5) not every country is the same, we have our own biodiveristy, and often these posts are *very* american/american based
#the assumption that all farms = individual house + land #is pretty western-centric too #considering community forms of farming #and not all relationships with land #are limited to the relationships of private property #in fact the imposition of private property systems #has sometimes been far more damaging and led to greater poverty #than community managed farming ft. land allocation + comm. commons (via tobermoriansass) Â

Chad wisdom teeth
Wisdom tooth impaction is a very recent phenomenon starting mainly as a problem after the Industrial Revolution.
Crooked teeth are a modern phenomenon and a telltale symptom of an underlying epidemic.
Wisdom teeth are impacted due to diminishing jaw strength during a human’s development; crucially during a human’s toddler years when the child’s jaw is developing the fastest. Most children are raised on soft food and humans continue to eat primarily soft foods for most of their lives.
I can’t find it currently, but there was a study in a dental journal published in the last few years that compared jaw-room/strength between urban and rural children in Ireland in the 1880’s(?) and children today. Overall modern children have smaller room in their mouths and their jaws are smaller than children of the same age in the 1880’s(?). But there was also a contrast between urban children and rural children in Ireland. The urban children, on average, had smaller mouth room versus their rural counterparts due to the urban children having greater access to processed foods while children in the rural areas ate raw/harder foods more often and a stronger jaw was developed during their formative years.
If you want to help prevent a weak jaw and the later issues of misaligned teeth and impacted molars, regularly introduce harder/tougher foods to them at a young age.
glad to know incel jaw has a scientific precedent and that the solution is to feed my toddler beef jerky
