listen I'm pulling a classic tumblr user move rn and basing my following observation on purely tv shows and not any actual research but is it real that women in the us were having their babies at hospitals in the 1920s and women in the uk kept having them at home until the 60s? not even a city mouse country mouse situation bc the show set in the us in the 20s is a city, and the midwife show is set in a way, way bigger city over a much longer period of time. anyway if that's true, what gives?
also lol i am The Rules Lady (not that I'm big on enforcing them, i just know them very, very well) and so people are always coming to me and going "does this mean we can't keep our lunches in the cooler anymore either?!" and i have to be the one to remind them that they have never, ever allowed us to do that lmfao. we made that up. we made up that we're allowed a drink station in a food prep area, and for some reason it's just been working out for a couple years. before that, we made up that you can have a drink behind the counter, you just can't set it down. we were told we can't keep our broom/dustpan/scrubber/squeegee behind the counter either, and someone made up an addendum to the end of that which says we can actually have them back there, they just have to be hung up so they're not touching the floor. none of that is true and to my almost 12 years of knowledge, hasnt ever been
one of the last times we went through this, i got my bag "checked" as i left work for the first and as of yet only time. and this is the man who saw me walking towards him with my grocery bag wide open and my receipt at the ready and went "yeah stevie i know you're all good" and didn't even look!
being obedient at a job where people constantly, very transparently flaunt the rules is something else. they're cracking down on people keeping their groceries in their own department, and everyone on my team said yes sir 🫡 but then today my manager left and forgot to buy something. that something is also a very hot commodity, so she texted to ask us to keep it aside for her, which is the exact thing they don't want us doing rn. i believe the term "squirrel pile" was used in the meeting about this lol. so we go to the store manager and say "what do? if we put them back on the shelf they'll for sure be gone by the time she gets in tomorrow. we hold things to the side for customers if they ask, so why can't we do that for a coworker?" and you could see on his face how badly he wanted to say that he did not fucking care what we did lmao but he's the guy who's been putting up signs telling everyone not to do this sort of thing so he has to pretend to care
nobody even knows how normal i am on account of my being obviously crazy

i love you toradol my beat friend toradol
until today i owned two records. now its like 152
I'm not going to bc they're now family heirlooms and the cumulative surviving collection of my aunts, probably also my dad and grandparents, but i could make a pretty penny selling just a few of these
i know most things were kind of less serious back in the 1920s bc if they didnt catch you doing it right then and there, you were probably gonna get away with it. that said, even bringing in a 1920->2026 currency converter into the mix, they were not paying these people enough for voter fraud
i love boardwalk empire for a great many reasons but one of them is definitely because i can go "what the fuck? its summer now? it was just january two episodes ago" and then i can look up that the 1920 republican national convention took place in chicago in june
god i love chalky white. the absolute power move of pretending to read a book for HOURS in jail when you're illiterate and you know the other guy is too
also i love how the white dudes came to chalky's operation and heard the word "motherfucker" for apparently the first time in their lives and went well what could that possibly mean
