Parent Night: An overall success

Just had to prove to MYSELF that I could do it. ✔️

Day 1: The End Hooray for my sister's help!! We got through SO MUCH STUFF and I couldn't have done it without her! Everything now has a temporary place and it looks clean! Tomorrow I sort through all those books!!

Day 1: The Beginning The cabinets were jam-packed full of books and materials, the boxes on the counter were heavily packed with textbooks. I didn't know what was mine and what wasn't. I was so overwhelmed.

The night before the last day of school!

Finally in bed at 11:30...

I feel like I should document this day.

Today I started full-takeover. Es el día después de vacaciones. Pasé toda la semana preparando unidades (cadena alimenticia y escritura persuasiva, con también mis grupos de lectura guiada) y anoche no pude dormir. Estaba trabajando hasta las 11 mas o menos y cuando fui a mi cama no me podía relajar. Bueno esta mañana me levanté bien y todo fue bi n. Todavía estaba tan nerviosa, especialmente porque todavía tenía que hacer todas mis copias para la semana y no tenía nada. Pues estaba de mal humor cuando me fui y traté de alegrarme durante mi manejo. Cuando llegué a la escuela empecé directamente sacar copias. Cuando llegué al salón Jenny estaba allí y estaba de buen humor. Le dije que estaba nerviosa pero ella no entendía por qué sería. A vez que les vi a los alumnos, todo estuvo bien. Ellos trabajaron muy duro y me encantaba verlo. Aunque había una grande confusión con Homework Center porque todavía no tenía tiempo para buscar quién iba a quedarse y no comí hasta las 11:10, con 10 minutos más, sobretodo el día fue muy bueno. Sólo tenía que regresar y acordarme por qué me encanta ser maestra y que sí, yo sé lo que estoy haciendo. Después, a GOTR, mi CT corrió conmigo el ento tiempo, cual me dice que no le molesto y que a ella le gusta mi compañía. Pues, también me dijo el viernes antes de las vacaciones que le debo llamar con cualquier cosa, aun si estaba manejando y quería alguien con quien charlar. Es muy buena y estoy agradecida por nuestra relación. Todo era muy bueno. Es mucho trabajo pero vale la pena. 👍👍👍

Well I have 2 job offers and am still hoping to interview with at least 2-3 other school districts (47, 54, and 46) so yeah, I’m a little stressed out.  

Not to mention the fact that I’m literally in the middle of edTPA right now (cold day on what was going to be day 3 of teaching, which means I’ll do that tomorrow and have the weekend to edit my videos).  SO.

Good days

If there is anything I've learned from teaching it's that bad days are almost always followed by really good days :) Notes: - Service team meeting this morning - Reminded the kids I'm there every day now and they were very excited - Electronics day - I've been bonding well (hopEfully I don't jinx it) with JLo, which is good, though a lot is due to Marc - Nice afternoon - Excited for date tonight (which ended in yet another hug but I didn't know)

Día 3

Llegamos a la misma vez...awkward. Hoy era raro. Tenía mi lección de fantasía vs. realismo con el cuento /Dogzilla/, cual leí con ellos como una clase. Lo leímos en grupos de chicas, chicos, o todos. Definitivamente necesito más práctica con esa estrategia, con que la maestra esta de acuerda. Es muy difícil enseñar en español. ¿Estoy loca porque lo quiero hacer? ¿Qué estoy haciendo? Y trabajo muchísimo a aprender más y más y siempre mejorarme. Y estoy tan cansada. Porque nunca parece ser bastante. Hoy me siento disheartened. Pasé la noche leyendo lo que pudiera para mejorarme. A ver.

Our grading system changed to standards-based this year.

A 3 means total and complete mastery of the standard. If I have 8 assignments on one standard, and a kid gets a 3 on 7 of them but a 2 on the eighth, their final grade for that standard will be a 2.

We also changed to standards-based grading this year, and part of the philosophy is that it doesn’t matter how long it takes a student to achieve mastery. One student may show mastery on the first assignment, while the other student doesn’t fully grasp the material and doesn’t show mastery until the eighth assignment. Some students will also need additional time outside of the classroom to show mastery, which is where additional interventions come into play. 

Therefore, I look at a student’s grades for the each assignment, but if they show a 3 later, then that is usually their final score for that standard. The only time I wouldn’t do this is if a student shows maybe one 3 out of five or six assignments, and can never demonstrate that mastery again.

Día 2

Llegué temprano, como a las 7:20, pero antes tenía que manejar por los barrios para gastar tiempo y también maquillarme. Pero puse todo en mi mesa y preparé mi póster para mi lección, cual no fue tan buena de todos modos pero lo que sea. 😕 Los niños comieron en el salón porque ACCESS fue en el comedor. Fuimos a nuestro comedor donde los maestros discutieron el nuevo currículo para las careras. Comience la semana que viene. Luego hice un examen de lectura de EDL 2 con NV. Fue horrible. 15-20 minutos porque tenía que leer y todo. Y no me gustó porque duró mucho tiempo y fue difícil. Para mí y, tal vez, para ella. JG tenía un meltdown en la otra clase. A veces admito que tengo miedo de él. Uh-oh. Después de las clases había una junta de dual language para preparar todo para el examen de ACCESS. Este también va a ser la semana que viene. Luego me quedé a trabajar y prepara mi lección para mañana hasta las 5:30. Llegué a casa a las 6:25 porque el tráfico y me puso enferma. Blegh. Mañana será otro día.

Primer día back: - una mesa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - estaban emocionados los niños a verme? No pero saben que a veces estoy allí y a veces no y eso es así. - no hice mucho porque quería observar 👍 - JL y yo no hablamos de edTPA mucho porque le interesaba más oír de Marc - me dijo que compró un iPad para su hija y por eso podemos FaceTime lol 😳 - junta de tercer grado después de clases...una hora y media - salí por fin a las 4:30 - escribí hasta las 11pm un plan de lección para mañana y no siquiera terminé todo mi trabajo - ya estresada
