Reaper76 week: “How we were” - History/ Decay
Mary Rockefeller, the (first) wife of Governor Nelson Rockefeller, sews the first of the new union labels onto a garment, January 15, 1959. Senator Herbert Lehman looks over her right shoulder, while Governor Rockefeller stands over her left shoulder. David Dubinsky, the president of the ILGWU, stands to his left, holding a pair of scissors.

According to Life magazine, "Spectators who crowd the walls around Rockefeller Center's sunken skating rink are more easily moved by pratfalls than by pirouettes. Lately, however, this critical audience has been applauding the remarkable efforts of 3-year-old Helen Ann Rousselle." The image above ran in the story and shows Helen Ann flying through the air with the help of professional skaters Muriel Pack and Skippy Baxter. The photo was part of the cover story of the January 15, 1950 issue of Life.

If you opened the New York Tribune on January 15, 1921, what would you see? These are some of the articles and ads on that date.
Ad for the John Wanamaker department store at Broadway & 9th St., January 15, 1921, on the back page. The coat was on sale for $39.75--the original price was $59.50. The wrap, at $75, seems to be full price.
"White frocks for graduation," said Wanamaker's. "Be-ruffled frocks of imported organdie at $12.75. Adorable frocks of net--one trimmed with many little pointed bands of organdie at $18.50." They were designed for girls between 12 and 16.
Two news stories. The Tribune is indignant that neither the mayor nor the police commissioner has taken action on its exposure of wiretapping on grand juries (left). At right, a phony Frenchman claiming to be a general and a recipient of the Croix de Guerre is caught by two detectives as he tries to flee down the fire escape of his building on West 37th St.
An ad for the February issue of Vanity Fair, with articles by Walter Lippman, H.L. Mencken, and Hugh Walpole, among others, full-page portraits of celebrities (that sounds like the modern VF), a page of famous Greenwich Villagers, 24 new model cars, 4 pages of clothes "for the well-dressed man," and numerous cartoons and satirical sketches.

+ CAS / OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL HOUSE JAN. 15
"Ah, just the wolf I was looking for." Roan greets Cas with a simple smile as he exits the school house and spots the white-haired wolf trudging past. "Walk with me," he invites without it being a real request and, by the way, he's speaking Norwegian in this entire thread. Tugging his fur closer around him, he steps onto a nearby path, the light dusting of frost sounding beneath boots. "I've spoken to Rineike," he begins, "and to Esje. Now I am speaking to you." Roan keeps his eyes ahead as he speaks. "Why do you resist Esje training?" @manybcdthings

another day of nothing much. I woke up at 5/5:30 to get the gym for 6AM but turns out it opened at 8AM so I fell back asleep and did not go to the gym LOL. after that failed attempt at health, it was just getting ready, working dinner, and then school work. *sigh* my goal is to make it to the 6:45AM cycling class tomorrow. wish me luck.
today I’m grateful for my stupidly overpriced day planner. I sat down to write in all my due dates and plan my schedule for the week and wow I’d be a mess without it. I also bought fitness plus and a barre pilates class in an attempt to get fit before my brother’s wedding so that’s throwing off my scheduling. it’s looking to be a busy semester but I’m lucky that this is the semester I get to plan for myself. it’ll be good. very busy but still really good.
