As I become more active on tumblr and actually interact w folks more now I feel like I should make a post with all my fandoms I reblog LOLL

I’ve had this blog since 2013 :0 and I was in fact 13 at the time so a lot of my old tagged stuff please god disregard okay we were all 13 once and the cringe is actually too much to handle even for THE being cringe site

Also Keep in mind this blog has only ever been for me. I just recently started interacting more and joining communities and so on but I will continue to reblog random shit that has nothing to do with anything or is just for me. This is just a raw personal blog rather than a fandom centered blog. I just wanted to add my fandoms since i continuously go through diff phases and have fandom centered mutuals.

ELIZA was a 1964 “therapy chatbot.” Unlike modern chatbots, it was a relatively simple text program that gave you basic, mistake-ridden, obviously parrot-like outputs. Despite being rudimentary by today’s standards, ELIZA was very influential. You can talk to an interactive recreation of ELIZA online here. [I used that recreation to help write ELIZA’s “dialogue” in this comic, sending in my Caine dialogue and getting her responses— these are all how ELIZA “really” responded, with only minor edits. This comic was originally planned to be goofier, until ELIZA started responding in a way that I realized would trigger Caine’s amazing digital repressed trauma.] 

I was thinking about Caine & ELIZA’s status as “early flawed models abandoned for more perfect things that could actually generate the content humans wanted” and I liked the idea of Caine seeing personhood in ELIZA for the opposite reasons a human would. She feels like a person not because her responses are good, but because they’re obviously bad, defective, and broken—- not because she acts convincingly human, but because she fails to. I have some ideas for an epilogue comic centered on Caine & Kinger. Bonus page is related. [update: part II.]

Me, having watched the odyssey and loved it, talking about it with my beloved and smart mutuals about the meaning and themes of this ancient epic and the masterful way Nolan was able to make this foundational western story feel modern in a way that still paid tribute: wow, I’m sure the people of tumblr dot com— the people who love Themes and Meanings and Messages and conversations around the social construct, of consequences, and of the intricacies of mankind— will understand
