It was supposed to be a quick in and out operation. Go in, get the trofast, and get out. Maybe stop in the cafeteria and get lunch. Bdubs’s mistake however, was inviting his younger brother. The issue was they’d had so much fun going through each room, that it took him until the lighting section to realise he had set his phone down somewhere in the showrooms. Now he had been extremely clear with Scar, stay put while he went to find his phone. But he really should have expected his brother to get distracted, whether it be on purpose or by accident. So by the time he had retrieved his phone from a showcase kitchen that they had pretended to fight in (a perilous journey in and of itself), he was left standing there alone in the lighting section. “He has a weird idea of staying put,” Bdubs mumbled to himself, watching as the call went to voicemail once more, he didn’t think twice about redialing, hoping he could somehow force Scar to pick up. With a glance up to the top of the screen, he had to fight back a pained grimace, they’d been here for an hour, and all they’d accomplished is losing his phone, and then losing Scar.

Starting a new season wasn’t a new thing for Bdubs. Not that permanency was his thing, the change that came along with each season was what made Hermitcraft feel so special. But season ten felt different. It had been such a perfect season, his home and his trees, the cyberpunk city he built with Impulse, the way he and Etho had seen each other nearly every day. Now he was on the new server, with no gear and no amenities, no pretty forests or convenient shopping districts. But it was fine, everything was perfectly fine. Except for the fact that he really didn’t know how to start his new house. Ideas swirled around his mind, but nothing felt right. Not after his season ten build. Keralis had called it homesickness, Scar had called it melancholy, but it had been Etho who had suggested that he was in mourning. Sure he had laughed and brushed the words off, but it had felt oddly correct. It felt like something was missing from his chest now that he was here. So while everyone else was busy getting their starter bases done, he was sitting on the little lake front he had claimed and staring at the water. --- Bdubs misses his old home, Etho reminds him that home isn't just a place.

All together, Bdubs liked his job. He enjoyed working at the ramen shop, it wasn’t always the most interesting job to have, but he made a good wage, and had great coworkers. He had a few different regulars too, people who he begrudgingly knew just from how often they showed up to the restaurant. This guy however, was an anomaly in his routine. He’d show up at eight, sit at the bar and do his homework until one am when they closed. He always ordered the tonkatsu ramen, and with a blush, would ask for it to be very mild. Objectively (and definitely not just in Bdubs’s opinion), the man was extremely attractive. White hair that had to be impossible to maintain, dark eyes and a scar that disappeared under the edge of a black cloth mask. Bdubs had never seen the guy without the mask on, it seemed to be a permanent fixture of his attire. “No I swear, he’s got a hole in it to eat through,” Bdubs mumbled to Cleo, leaning against the wall as he tried to figure out how the man was eating his ramen. --- Bdubs is fascinated by his new regular, Etho has a new favourite study spot, and Cleo just wants them to kiss and get over it.

Scar was mostly sure it wasn’t on purpose that he got pushed under, but with Etho involved he wasn’t completely sure. He wasn’t really that worried, he had done so many diving drills that being pushed under by someone else wasn’t all that worrying. So he just let himself sink for a minute, squinting up and trying to figure out what was happening in the flurry of movement above him. He was a few seconds away from just giving up and getting kicked when he felt arms wrapping under his own and he was being forcefully pulled up.

It wasn’t until he was above water again, a red flotation device shoved under his arms, that he realized what had even happened. That lifeguard that he’d gotten so distracted by? That lifeguard that Scar had been practically drooling over before he had caused multiple collisions? That lifeguard was now in the pool next to him, holding him under his arms like he was drowning.

“Oh god I’m so sorry, I’m not drowning,” Scar said quickly, the embarrassment already starting to burn his cheeks red. -- Scar has been on the swim team far too long to actually be drowning, luckily Grian is there to take the situation extremely seriously.

  Summary:

He stripped his armour off, putting it into a chest before dropping his weapons in as well. The only thing he had left was his clock, which he carefully set on his bedside table. It was only then that he realised that he wasn’t alone. Snoring softly, sprawled out in a bed that definitely wasn’t his, was the one and only Etho Slab. Bdubs shouldn’t have been too shocked, in all of his exhaustion he had completely forgotten that Etho had returned to the server. He had found the man in his basement, but had honestly thought that it was a joke. How was he supposed to know that Etho seriously was planning on living under his tower? “Oh brother! Are you serious?” He whined, quiet enough to not wake Etho. Rather than start an argument and ruin both their nights, he just clambers onto the bed, unwilling to give up on a beautiful night of sleep just because Etho decided to take up residence in his space. Bdubs settles, but not without complaining, “I’ve got a freaking king in my attic, and an exile in my basement, and now you’re taking up half of my dang bed.” Etho finally seemed to stir, grumbling as Bdubs tucks himself in.

Etho comes home, not just to Hermitcraft, but to Bdubs as well.
