Format theory
Because these kinds of codes are not publicly discussed or even apparent to endâusers, they often take on a sheen of ontology when they are more precisely the product of contingency. (p. 8)
Mass file-sharing may amplify a crisis in some quarters of the music industries, but it also affords an opportunity to rethink the social organization of music. (p. 27)

It would not be difficult to show that the 'network' has become the paradigmatic mode of representing global culture.

âIt is the mass that is employed here. Only as parts of a mass, not as individuals who believe themselves to be formed from within, do people become fractions of a figure. [...] The end result is the ornament, whose closure is brought about by emptying all the substantial constructs of their contents.â p. 76-77.
âAdmittedly, it is the legs of the Tiller Girls that swing in perfect parallel, not the natural unity of their bodies, and it is also true that the thousands of people in the stadium form one single star. But this star does not shine, and the legs of the Tillers Girls are an abstract designation of their bodies. Reason speaks wherever it disintegrates the organic unity and rips open the natural surface (no matter how cultivated the latter may be); it dissects the human form here only so that the undistorted truth can fashion man anew.â p. 84

On l'attribue à Gutenberg.

Text lasts. Itâs not platform-dependant, you donât just get it from one source, read it in one place, understand it in one way. It is not dependent on technology: it is what we make technology out of. Code is text, it is the fundamental nature of technology.
1. Never open a book with weather.
2. Avoid prologues.
3. Never use a verb other than ''said'' to carry dialogue.
4. Never use an adverb to modify the verb ''said'' . . .
5. Keep your exclamation points under control.
6. Never use the words ''suddenly'' or ''all hell broke loose.''
7. Use regional dialect, patois, sparingly.
8. Avoid detailed descriptions of characters.
In Ernest Hemingway's ''Hills Like White Elephants'' what do the ''American and the girl with him'' look like? ''She had taken off her hat and put it on the table.'' That's the only reference to a physical description in the story, and yet we see the couple and know them by their tones of voice, with not one adverb in sight.
9. Don't go into great detail describing places and things.
10. Try to leave out the part that readers tend to skip.

"Yellow journalism"
Yellow journalism was developed in America during the 1880s but had its roots in the new penny papers exemplified by the New York Sun, published by Benjamin Day in 1833 and targeted at a newly literate American working-class readership. Yellow journalism, characterized by its sensational and emotive content, contrasted starkly with the rational and sober emphasis of the existing newspapers and is typically seen as the precursor of modern tabloid journalism.

"The Internet is a never-ending election. Google is worth hundreds of billions of dollars because it learned that a link to a website was essentially a vote for that siteâs content. Today's Internet is an ever-expanding set of fractal democracies. We vote billions (trillions?) of times daily through tweets, retweets, pins, repins, reblogs, likes, and favorites, ad infinitum. We can parse these votes based on demographics, andâthanks to mobile devicesâby location, too."
