"S-Sire...?" Dan stood outside his liege's rooms, frown firmly in place and hand resting on the door. He had been tracked down by one of the resting guards from the throne room, who sent him straight up to Ryan's room, citing bad news. No one had told him what the news was, but from the faint sobs he could hear through the door he had a good feeling he knew what it was. "May I come in, your highness?"
- Ryan was distraught, his whole body shaking as he cried, Dan’s voice making it’s way through the door barely broke through, but when it did he sniffled, trying to stop his tears. Rubbing his hands over his face, he tried to force his voice to be steady when he replied. "W-what is it Dan? Do you need something?"
Kicking the door once more, it buckled and creaked under the force of the blow. Dan shouldered the door open the rest of the way, then took the tray from the servant and dismissed them. He strode into the room, heading for the side table to put the food on before turning and kneeling in front of Ryan. The man looked a mess, hair mussed and face splotchy. The soldier crouched in front of the king and gave a soft smile.
Ryan winced at the way his door creaked, pulling tighter in on himself as the door banged open, Dan making his way inside. Of course he wouldn’t just go on, that’s not what he was good at. Dan was always incredible perceptive when it came to things being wrong. He was pulled from his thoughts by a warm presence in front of him, and when he looked up, he was greeted with a soft smile. "You’re a terrible listener, y’know that?"
"Course I am. I have to take care of you." Despite any decorum Dan may have, comforting his friend came before listening to his king. Pulling Ryan into his arms, Dan wrapped him in a hug. There was a crumbled letter on the ground that caught his eye. He wondered if that was the source of the distraught, but he focused only on making sure Ryan was okay.
