Landon's staring. She knows it, because he hasn't played a single note in the last ten minutes, nor has he written anything, and he must know it, because he's got this narrow-eyed thing going on, like he's trying to work something out in the least subtle way he can muster.

Sighing loudly, Lizzie turns her head suddenly and immediately meets his eyes. He doesn't even falter.

"What?" she finally snaps, raising her eyebrows. "Why are you staring at me like that, aside from the obvious, being my stunning natural beauty."

"Are you wearing my shirt?"

Alright. Not what she was expecting.

She glances at her arm, just to be sure, even though she already knows that the answer is yes.

"Yeah," she says, shrugging, which feels odd while lying down on the floor.

Landon's still staring, crease still between his eyebrows. "Uh, okay. Another question: why exactly are you wearing my shirt? And how did you even get it?"

"That's two questions," Lizzie points out.

Then she rolls her eyes, scratching beneath her jaw despite the lack of an actual itch. A nervous habit. That she refuses to acknowledge.

"I saw it when I was in your room last week, and it looked comfortable. I was right. It's surprisingly soft."

"How did I not notice you taking my shirt?" Landon questions, his confusion clearly only growing with every answer she gives.

"Because you have so many exactly like it that it would be impossible to notice one missing."

She turns her head again, her eyebrows drawing together now.

"Do you want it back or something?" she asks. "I'll take it off right now if that's what you want."

Landon's eyes widen and he's shaking his head frantically, curls bouncing all over the place.

"No! No, no, I--uh, no, don't do that," he says, stumbling over his words as Lizzie smirks. "It just...looks really nice on you. That's all."

Lizzie softens. Her smirk slips into a smile instead, and her heart tumbles as he smiles back.

Tin has been hurt so deeply and so often by his own family, the very people who were supposed to love him, that he pushes everyone away both emotionally and physically so he wouldn’t give them the chance to hurt him. That’s why he’s so guarded and suspicious of everyone - he expects them to attack him and use him. When he hears Phupha say how much he loves Tul, Tin looks at him with a mix of shocked envy and jealousy. Because his brother has someone who loves so much while Tin doesn’t have anyone, he has no one who would be only his and love him above everyone else, not even his loving nephew who leaves him the moment Tul comes home and Tin ends up all alone once again. So when Can told him that he was an unloved child, it hurt so much because he hit a nerve, uncovering Tin’s greatest insecurity and fear: that he is not only unloved but unlovable, undeserving of love and doomed to be unloved forever.

However, it isn’t his nephew Tin later remembers when he is sad and lonely. Instead, it’s Can. It’s can who makes him smile again after Tin smile disappeared after Phupha mentioned his older brother. It baffles him. Why does he remember the boy who almost get himself ran over by his car to apologize to him? Why does he remember Can who’s been with him without asking anything in return? Why does he remember someone who couldn’t sleep over hurting other people’s feelings?

The fact that Can makes Tin smiles is so deeply poignant because basically the only other person who manages to do that is his little nephew, the only person to whom Tin shows real affection. It says a lot about the reason why Tin is so drawn towards Can and which he later reveals himself when he compares him to a 5-year-old child. 

It’s Can’s childlike innocence: he is guileless and honest to a fault, the complete opposite of all the people in his life. Therefore when he admits that Can is not disgusting, he doesn’t mean his imperfect hygiene habits but that he isn’t like everyone else who wants to advantage of him and only sees his name and position but not his real self. Can doesn’t have a calculating bone in his body and it’s very likely he doesn’t even know how to properly calculate to begin with. To Tin, Can isn’t dirty at all because he is the purest human being he’s ever met. Thus, TIN FALLS IN LOVE WITH CAN BECAUSE CAN MAKES HIM FEEL SAFE. IT’S CAN WHO MAKES HIM TO DROP HIS MASK AND WALLS AND ALLOWS HIM TO BE VULNERABLE. It’s a complete role reversal since it’s usually the top who makes the bottom feel safe but here, it’s the other way around.

The only people Tin is actually capable of opening up with and being nice to are Can, Phupha and Pete who are so pure and sweet that they possibly could never hurt him. They are also the only people Tin is completely devoted to and wants to protect at all costs. When he compares Can to a child, Tin shows that he finds Can unthreatening and safe, someone he trusts and who could never hurt him that’s why the the future break-up hits him so hard and almost destroys him: because Can is the last person he ever expected to reject him and hurt him.
