This will be a place for me to post whatever it is I want. To start, Tumblr probably isn't the best place for someone who can't be concise and is strictly long (longest) winded. More often than not my sister will say to me 'land the plane' aka wrap up the story-and that's also where I started saying 'long story long' (which was taken so really longest is more appropriate) when it came to my longwinded stories. Tumblr will be an exercise in curbing this habit. My specific interests lie in: film, music, fashion, pop culture and hope to highlight interesting articles, photos and happenings I find in the world. (also, as of 2021, F1 and Daniel Ricciardo enthusiast)

It’s so clear there is a DR sized hole left in this sport now. I wish someone would comment on the decision! I need Sebastian Vettel energy and for someone to have some integrity. I know it can’t rest solely on Alex’s shoulders, and overall, love the support, but even by Alex saying that, the giant elephant in the room is clear. How it all happened - still feels really wrong. As someone who came into the sport because of DR, I want to continue to love F1, but the way RBR have treated Daniel has really made watching the sport, leas enjoyable. I don’t think I am alone in feeling this way. Hoping as time goes on, it stops feeling so awful and returns to a fun escape!

I also wonder if RBR and RB would just acknowledge how they’ve not behaved in good faith - basically, apologize - I know, it doesn’t fix it - but could it at least give everyone closure? Not only did they unceremoniously cut him, they’ve also continued to talk shit about him and are contributing to the revisionist history of his career. Is that the part that is making this all even worse?

To Alex’s point - about the F1 community’s response - I know it’s naive to think the sport doesn’t keep moving along, but I wonder if or what impact this could have. Feels like they could lose a chunk of audience/engagement. I guess time will tell…

How Red Bull are failing Tsunoda and Lawson

For all the focus on Red Bull's driver selection, an alarming trend that is detrimental for their young drivers is going unnoticed.

When it was Daniel in the car, somehow it was his poor performance when it came to a slow/bad car (never mind the P4 and P5s). Now, Liam isn’t even in the car yet, and it’s RB that’s failing Liam and Yuki. PLEASE stick to a narrative, across all your drivers. The hypocrisy. The fact that each of these drivers are seemingly judged by such different metrics and expectations (they wanted podiums week in and out?) is completely not based in any reality. Tired of people’s revisionist and echo chamber analysis.

Will anybody actually ask RBR CH or HM direct questions?

We want answers, and some journalistic integrity. If they believe Daniel wasn’t performing to their expected standards, not doing enough, not consistent enough - why is Checo (effectively same set of issues, but in a much faster/better car with actual consequences to the Constructors) NOT held to same standard? Why did they not give Daniel a last race, last season? Whether or not you think he deserves a seat, surely he deserved a real farewell? What did he do to deserve this exit? CH: You criticized McLaren and Zak Brown and effectively did the same thing as they did. Actually by dropping him mid-season, it’s even worse. Why?

Why are they continuing to slander/eviscerate Daniel? They’ve already gotten rid of him, why can’t they let him go in peace? Why are they treating him this way?

If they’re continuing to slander him, why do they expect he’d want to be in Reserve/Ambassador role?

I think we all have an idea of the answers, we even know how it’s been talked around/not truly addressed. We see all the revisionist history happening.

Wish someone had the integrity and balls to actually ask them difficult questions. Let the uncomfortableness hang in the air.

Where’s Sebastian Vettel when you need him? I will never forgot his defense of Daniel after McLaren🫶🫶🫶.

Daniel Ricciardo New Podcast Listen 🫶

Very nice podcast with some nice words for DR. Really insightful podcast and touches on his driving style and approach (very specific McLaren breakdown that I hadn’t heard before) and then at 21:50, Scott Mitchell-Malm talks about career highs, driver style, and sums him up as a person (his respect for him) and talks about people having revisionist history with regards to the whole of his career, beyond DTS. He also made a point to talk about DR being a consistently authentic person as well as highlighting his ability to communicate (and take criticism).

**Still need to listen to second half (from DTS EP Paul Martin) but wanted to share a great listen in this sea of sadness.

It sums up why we’re all such fans of DR ❤️

More hypocrisy, more rants…

Fuck Helmut Marko. Honestly, why does he still need to slander Daniel? You’ve already made the decision. Not only wasn’t there a fond farewell, nor was he given the grace of knowing it was his last race. Post that shitshow in Singapore - he’s still talking about Daniel! Just be honest, this was about money and politics.

To start, Daniel’s season wasn’t anything spectacular, but he was on a run of improvements and certainly not usually bad enough to be dropped mid-season or not given a known last race. That said, per Marko, if Daniel “isn’t performing” in that dumpster tractor - fine, but then have the decency to acknowledge Checo in an objectively faster car also isn’t performing. The hypocrisy yet again. Admit, certain rules and expectations are being applied to different people.. If Daniel didn’t do enough - why is Checo still there? Objectively, if it’s about “performance” then they should both be out no? They acted like Daniel needed to perform miracles in that shit box, but fine for Checo to just get by most races (despite it potentially costing them Constructors). Never a fair fight. (Not trying to hate on Checo, just pointing out RBR/RB unfair expectations and narratives being put on Daniel). All to say, no one arguing DR should be guaranteed a seat/promotion/extension but I think most people agree (even non-DR fans) - a true goodbye or last race/season for 13 year veteran of sport - was deserved. His fucking family weren’t there because they didn’t know, he didn’t know until Saturday.

Last thing, I’m not condoning hating on LL, now or in future, but sir, read the room! You got the seat, you already won. The dream is in hand. To go around announcing you knew two weeks ago - have some humanity and emotional intelligence. Is it inexperience or is he rubbing it in everyone’s faces? He could have stopped at grateful for the opportunity, excited for the future.

Why has the whole ordeal felt so traumatic and hurtful? If we’re all feeling this, I can’t imagine what Daniel is feeling? As many people have mentioned, McLaren and 22 were bad, this feels worse. Permanent. And for all of CH’s bitching about McLaren, what’s happened here is infinitely worse. It’s like a real betrayal from a team he’s given so much to. He’s trusted them, and they couldn’t even be bothered.

ps if this was about 2025/2026 and decision was made two (or more weeks) - why did they string him along? Dangled the carrot with no real intention to follow through. The fact that they took advantage of his “Red Bull or bust” dreams is also gross. If they didn’t have intentions, they could have not tortured him all season. Maybe he could have had talks with other teams. Or enjoyed his last few races in peace.

Will Buxton and Natalie Pinkham Responses - More Rambles

First of all, of course I am for journalistic integrity. Seeing what happened with Natalie Pinkham this weekend with the CH interview and people’s response was a bit alarming. Even if she has a personal relationship, she asked the questions everybody was wondering and she did it respectfully. CH was the one being defensive. When he tried to pin it on her, she didn’t take the bait. She isn’t the TP - she’s trying to find out why they’re keeping a lineup that doesn’t seem to be working at best capacity. Honestly, the day before Lawrence Barretto (and I think Will Buxton) were literally discussing why Red Bull made this surprising decision. She just had the opportunity to ask. If you don’t have an answer then don’t take these interviews CH! At this stage, I would have understood CH if he was just more honest. Either their car isn’t working for both drivers (tho there is a still a gap). Or that their drivers are here for multitudes of reasons. I mean if people are going to level Daniel with PR3 constantly then why are Checo’s sponsorships not allowed to be discussed? Of course, every driver is going to leverage their positives (on track results, sponsorship, fans, time in the sport) to keep or gain seats. It is a holistic thing. The hypocrisy drives me nuts.

With regards to Will Buxton’s podcast comments. He’s honestly been such a fair weather supporter - and if that’s the case he should keep his personal opinions to himself. Absolutely no loyalty. That said, journalistic integrity is important/being able to constructively criticize is necessary. He was highly critical of DR when he decided to not take a seat 2023 but once he sensed he was back, ultra friendly to him. What I want to point out is first - his tone about DR and GR was so disrespectful. They may not be friends in real life - but they’re colleagues/co-workers. Who speaks like that about the people you work with? If you’re having a chat/pint with your friends privately, speak how you want. You’re on a public podcast. Secondly, the reason I am thinking that is, while he is a journalist, he is EMPLOYED by F1. They are technically his employers. Again, grey areas abound in F1🫠🙄. Again, not to say he can’t criticize their driving results, or if they’d been accused of something horrific like CH, OF COURSE he should comment. This just felt like random personal attacks. First, just nasty to GR. And he’s accusing Daniel of being nice - oh, he should be jailed. Again, personal grievances is a conversation better shared in private. Again, all for journalistic integrity. If he had framed his criticisms about their track results fair game. What he said felt spiteful. And it made me think - why are you basically blatantly talking shit about your co-workers? Just wrong on so many levels. Honesty, says more about character than either DR or GR. He sounds so unserious.

The Hypocrisy…

The hypocrisy of Helmut Marko. Somehow Daniel needs to drive faster to prove himself/earn a promotion because it’s somehow only a junior team and he needs to be faster to be cinsidered for senior team. What else did or does he need to do? The last 8 races have seen improvement and consistency. While he had a rough opener, he’s since improved. He does what he can with the car he has. It’s not like he has a championship capable car.

But Perez doesn’t need ro drive faster, just more consistently to keep his place on senior team. They’re doing all they can to help him.

Why is the framing so apparently different. Why are parameters different? Make it make sense. How do they justify the difference in treatment?

Please someone (F1 journalists) with critical thinking skills, please question this.

At the very least, if they’re giving Perez this chance to improve/save his seat (for whatever reason) they could leave Daniel’s name out of their mouthes. Fair enough if that’s their agenda, but then, just leave Daniel alone/no need to speak about him. Who needs enemies when you have Helmut on your team?

Nicole Piastri on finding out Oscar had signed with McLaren

The fact that Daniel, despite a lowest point in his career, reached out to Oscar to say no hard feelings and didnt want his entry to F1 badly affected, and also then publically Oscar (or Daniel) acknowledging this had been done (so any Oscar hate could dissipate) - entitely wholesome. It’s why I am a Daniel fan, that’s the spirit of a worthy competitor and good human, and happy Oscar’s entry into F1 actually probably had another layer of wholesome 🥹

DR Thoughts

Bottom line. Daniel Ricciardo has been given ultimatums and pressures up the wazoo the last few months. Relentless ones. Constant pressure. Whether it’s from VCARB, Peter Bayer, Laurent Mekies, Helmut Marko, Christian Horner, the F1 media/pundits … and it isn’t just for the Red Bull seat, it’s for his VCARB seat….his livelihood in the sport. He does all the things he needs to….consistently clawing his way back into whatever good graces, results he needs. This weekend was going so well…only for the team to do this to him with that horrendous strategy and then to barely acknowledge the team’s mistakes and not just really apologize so everyone can move on. I hope for everyone’s sake they have had debriefs and genuinely talked through and acknowledged their roles in what happened. I don’t believe the actual strategy call was malicious or pre-planned, but their response just feels terrible.

As someone else mentioned, hopefully, this becomes inconsequential when it comes to whether he continues in F1, since it’s very clear it’s not his fault, but he now has to deal with all the internet hate/F1 media. As he ended his post-race interview - making a comment on the race - and what were they expecting him to do? It feels like bigger picture - what more do people want?

For everyone saying he just cares about Red Bull, I don’t think that’s entirely true. Sure there are the “career ending there would be a fairytale” comments but in no way has he been arrogant about this. It feels he only wants to be a part of the Red Bull family (why he’s basically not considering other teams) because it was supposed to be the team that had his back. VCARB was feeling like it was adjacent to Red Bull, but today just felt like he was thrown to the wolves again. After the years he had at McLaren, this probably felt like a stunning disappointment for him. Again, hope the people who make such decisions know the reality, but just tough, that Daniel has to deal with public and internet hate from people who only see he scored no points this weekend. It’s so much more complicated and nuanced.

Many of his comments this weekend have been about - just a seat for next year. And another thing, if the Red Bull seat isn’t an option (which swings wildly from he’s a shoe-in, to absolutely no chance and everything in between), so who really knows? That said, VCARB isn’t really giving Daniel a chance to build something real there either (all of the this is a junior team talks and arguments). They take all of his experience and use it to their benefit, but then he also isn’t considered number 1 driver. Sure, maybe his results have not warranted this. But honestly, what is he supposed to do? All season he’s just trying to keep his options open by working hard, being dedicated and what will it be for? What else should he be doing?

I know, in the end, people who dislike him - dislike him and want him gone. But as people have been saying about Perez (which feels like Daniel/McLaren 22) can we please find some empathy? You can criticize these guys for results, but if they’re working hard and trying, and are humans, some empathy and understanding wouldn’t be out of bounds.

But some people just want to hate. That’s exhausting. Anyway, knowing, we can’t please everyone, it just feels sad, he’s getting more hate that isn’t necessary. And given what he’s facing, he’s been absolutely amazing. And yet someone will still find a reason to criticize him.

Seriously, FEA.

What an upsetting day for DR and to be a DR fan. I hope behind-the-scenes they are dealing with this and hope we can move on from this…

And hours later, still irritated and trying to find a way out of the rabbit hole. To clarify, he has my support always, but today was rough. If anyone has words of encouragement, would be happy to hear them ❤️❤️❤️

Another steam of consciousness on Mr Daniel Ricciardo and no sleep so apologies in advance if things are a bit scattered.

A little scared to post because tags have been intense.

Anyways....

Happy for Daniel. Everyone criticized him for taking a break last year (which he clearly needed) and not taking a Haas/Williams seat. People thought that he thought he was too good. Well, he's now taking a seat at the last place team, to rebuild and prove himself. He sees a pathway, but he's taking the step down in hopes for a long view move. He is a multiple race winner and probably could have retired but of course, unfinished business. Beauty of the sport. The comeback. He's allowed the chance to rebuild and is literally starting with a back marker team now and knows he has to prove himself. But now, people are pressed he is in a seat. Again, obviously Red Bull see something in him. If they weren't seeing some indication - based on Red Bull's history of being cutthroat - this wouldn't be a conversation. Even on that Simon Rennie/RB podcast, Simon mentioned not wanting to basically lie or hype Daniel up if the results weren't there. There's a trust there. Luckily, they saw something. They literally can't hire Daniel solely for markeing/PR. Does it help? Of course. Everyone has to find value wherever they can. There's only 20 seats people have to take their opportunities where they can.

Alpha Tauri is a junior team narrative. It was but they've obviously repeatedly put out there they're looking for a restructure with one experienced driver and one younger, and they're going to be using Red Bull parts. Two young drivers (unless you're a generational talent like MV) could very well result in little to no points and they're dead last right now. Haas had to bring back two experienced drivers to make up for the previous years of two young drivers. They need an injection of experience.

Pay Driver - He has not had a family member nor a huge corporation buy his way into the sport. He's built a career where people are interested in him - over 10 years - how can people find a way to penalize that? Again, he can't win. Just because he can pull in interest from huge sponsors - again, after years of building a career, that's just the business. If it was based on that person's definition alone - Lewis, Lando would also be pay drivers. But it isn't based on that factor alone. There's so many factors.

A lot of people deserve things, but this is a competitive sport, so nothing is ever guaranteed. Liam may very well deserve a spot on the grid, but you could also say he never would have had this opportunity if not for DR's accident. Also, if he’s as great as people think he is - I’m not too worried for him. People keep going back to Alex Albon's appendix causing the string of recent events but sometimes I think - this all wouldn't have happened if Daniel hadn't left Red Bull in first place lol. Maybe he'd still have his Red Bull seat now! I don't mean that in a he shouldn't have left, just that his leaving kind of caused a similar effect and gave all these other people opportunities lol. But again, that's not really how it works. They're making decisions based on today's circumstances. And now, he's come back but has to re-earn his spot. His leg up is Christian Horner supports him, but he still has to perform to get back. Just think it's funny people are acting like, there won't be hard work or there's no talent (again, drivers don't forget how to drive). It's complicated and impossible to identify who "deserves" a seat more or less. So many variables and impossible to be definitive (the way some people speak as if they know everything/must be right). Guess, we could argue forever which is what's entertaining. That said....

Professionalism/Kindness. While I think everyone knows that the way McLaren handled Daniel's exit was in poor taste, never once did Daniel complain or make excuses. He was professional and continues to be. The results weren't there. When he was fired (let go, released), he understood it. Acknowledged the results weren't there and this was part of the sport (I'll get into that NY Times article another time - but it was clearly not for a lack of trying). Daniel called Oscar Piastri to tell him no hard feelings. Wanted him to still have a positive start. Even Checo has been asked about Daniel "coming after his seat" and presumably under a lot of pressure for 2025 and his response was also professional and an understanding of the sport. He said Daniel's a friend and there are only 20 seats, there's no hard feelings. It's up to him (Checo) to perform. They all understand. Nobody inherently deserves or is guaranteed a seat. Wish some fans would understand. If the drivers aren't publically pressed about it themselves - maybe everyone just calm down. People are just so nasty, and without actually knowing all the information. Twitter/X is the worst. This should be fun, juicy, competitive but no need to bring hate or be nasty.
