I brought a cactus i had been babying up to Washington with me, where I’ve been living and working in a rural organic farming community and sleeping outdoors every night to remind me of home back in LA. to see what medicine it has for me. Figuring Out How To Live Amongst Each Other. This is the plant spirit medicine St.Joan’s /St.Jeanne’s/St.John’s Wort has told me of. How can we, as a diverse group of people with varying degrees of Self cohabitate non- violently? How can we learn to be passionate about the impermanence of this space we occupy on this planet we call Home? How can we learn to love ourselves, heal ourselves, accept ourselves as Earthlings, all here to live each of our highest soul’s purpose? as a healer, I find myself putting myself and my own deepest needs behind others’. I recognize that I also need help in my journey to wholeness. I need help to survive living here. I don’t want to do it alone. Hypericum perforatum has long been a helper towards all of these goals. This plant has been around the block, seen all the layers of our people-flow. It grows at the very edges of meadows and in the grittiest city ditches all over the world, in any kind of soil it can find. taking a front row seat to watch Humanity TV unfold. Visually, Hypericum perforatum leaves and flowers are dotted(perforated) with tiny black holes. Reminding me of the vast view into the abyss of space outside oneself. It’s flowers are a vibrant, golden yellow, clear, bright, sun-tone. But as you gently macerate the flowers, where the medicine deeply lives, the crushed petals leak an earthy-clay maroon red. The contrast of colors within SJW tells the ancient story of healing in layers, a spectrum of seeing, healing from the inside to outside, bringing invisible to visible. Here is A flower who bleeds itself, to provide deep wound healing for us- physically it provides the medicine to mend minor to major cuts, scrapes, burns and bruises. Emotionally, it provides relief for depression and anxiety when ingested. I mostly use Hypericum perforatum as a topical salve for it’s proven efficacy as an anti-inflammatory ( sore muscle salve) anti-viral, and antioxidant medicine. It’s an incredibly rich and vast remedy.
