“I couldn’t possibly imagine you being a thorn in anyone’s side, Cyrus,” the princess told him, her eyes softening as she looked over at him. “I mean, I haven’t known you for very long, but already I think you’re really great!” He just wanted a friend, and he was rather kind and curious about the world -- actually, if she was honest, Rapunzel found his more docile nature to be really refreshing! And she liked that he answered her questions in a calm way, not in an angry or annoyed way, like some of the other people she had met since she escaped the tower.
“I think he didn’t give you enough credit,” she went on, her head shaking slightly. “It’s not right of him, either, to just expect you to do whatever he says! Even if he was the princess’ consultant! My lady in waiting, Cassandra -- she’s more of a best friend than a lady-in-waiting -- she’s really important to my princess-ing. I mean, she knows all the rules and she helps me figure all these new, crazy things out, but she would never do anything without making sure she’d talked it over with me first! Even if she really thinks she knows better!” Rapunzel sighed, her face displaying her confusion and annoyance at this ‘Snake-Man-Jerk’ who seemed to be mean not only to Princess Jasmine and Aladdin, but also to Cyrus, who really hadn’t done anything to deserve it.
“It’s not right to treat other’s without respect,” she decided firmly, with a nod of her head. “But...well, if he ever shoes up in CORONA, you just tell me, and I’ll sort it out right away so you won’t have to worry about it! You’re my friend, and I stick up for my friends no matter how...how gross and snake-y the other person is!”
Laughing a little at her own description of Jafar ( she was remembering more and more about him as they reached the bakery ) the brunette threw her hands up once they were at the door.
“This is the bakery! Doesn’t it smell amazing?! Oooh-- you have to try the chocolate croissants! They are the best!” The princess pushed the door open, holding it for Cyrus to enter behind her, and waved to the owners of the shop, who bowed their heads and waved back, always happy to see the princess and Pascal! And guest!
“I won’t tell, Eugene,” Rapunzel said, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. “I can be sneaky you know!” No. She couldn’t -- in fact, she was horrible at being sneaky. Unless it was literally just sneaking past someone, the blonde was pretty much hopeless in the ninja department, no matter how light on her feet she was!
Crossing her arms in front of her, the princess shrugged and giggled, the excitement pooling up inside her. “Yeah, I’d hope you’re good at this! Because, otherwise maaann --- is that embarrassing for the guards who failed to catch you all those times!” She was joking, but Rapunzel realized that what she said may have been hurtful. She didn’t know Eugene’s lines -- like how often he was okay with joking around about his life before. Like how it was hard for her to joke about being in the tower fro so long. But, the two were in a good mood, and she figured it wouldn’t be too bad to let a few jokes out, right?
She also didn’t quite get sarcasm. Not yet, but she was learning!
“We’re here!” she whispered, once the two were outside her parents’ door. Her mother was probably reading -- and her father? Well, Rapunzel hoped she didn’t necessarily have to talk to him.
“Okay! I’m ready!” .......” Wait, what do I say, again?”
Welp, this was perfect

“-I’ve been looking out of a window for eighteen years, dreaming about what I might feel like when those lights rise in the sky. What if It’s not everything I dreamed it would be?

-And what if it is? What do I do then?

"Hey, Eugene?" Rapunzel asked, knocking lightly on his door. "Do you have a second?" She produced a cupcake from behind her back, with two forks. "I brought you something!"
Eugene opened the door and spotted the cupcake immediately.
“You know me so well…”
“I know right?!” She beamed, winking at him. “How are you today? Do you have time for a cupcake break?” She didn’t really have anything to ask him -- she’d just missed him! And, honestly, if someone didn’t have time for a cupcake break what did they have time for?!
“Got it!” she exclaimed, standing up and giving him a thumbs up. Brushing off her dress, Rapunzel watched him go, so happy to have him. A hand went up to her cheek, blushing where he kissed her. She was quite lucky, really, really lucky. And the princess never wanted to lose him. It was hard, this new life was challenging -- but also so exciting -- but he made it much, much easier ( and more exciting! ).
She smiled, scooting over to look out the window -- another beautiful day! Oh, she was so excited! And, since she wasn’t going beyond the walls...her parents couldn’t get mad! No...no way! That would be juuuuust too much.
When he returned, Rapunzel waved at him a bit, Pascal on her shoulder. “Ready when you are!” she said, and the two started off down the halls, Rapunzel at a bit of a run -- she was beyond ready to be outside in the sunshine!
