š if you don't have too many already? government assign leon a dragon
@noxloved
āSo,ā Leon said,Ā āYou know that Alm guy.ā
Leon didnāt know him. All he knew was that when theyād visited the castle, Celica had spoken to him, and when she came back she was upset. And Leon cared about Celica, because she was kind and had helped Valbar. It was understandable that heād want to know what was going on.
Well, all of that and a healthy amount of curiosity.
He leaned more heavily on the wooden fence separating their camp from the nearby field.Ā āWhatās he like? He must have something going for him...ā
caraideanā:
āI do know him - quite well, in fact. I was one of the earlier members of the Deliverance to place my support behind him as a new commander.ā Clair said courteously, carefully avoiding any mention of how heād had to rescue her - or her long-standing crush on the man. Either fact could make her new comrade think less of her, and now that society was finally being rebuilt Clair was determined to maintain a seat at the very top no matter how much she had to scratch and claw for it. Within reason, of course.
She sighed a little, shaking her head in bemusement when the subject of the Macedonians was brought up. āTheir feats make me feel quite insignificant, truth be told. Did you know they have participated in at least two other conflicts prior to this one? I would wager that they almost have as much experience as Lord Mycen, despite their young age. It would be nice to keep them around a little longer, honestly - for all we have done, it still feels like most of us have too little experience to be doing what we do.ā
āIf nothing else, the eldestās advice would have been greatly appreciated for the coming years. Zofiaās pegasus knights were almost completely wiped out in the opening moments of the war, and even with the unification it is not as if Rigel had many of their own to begin with. Iāll be attempting to organize and train an entire new force with the aid of a few retired old warhorsesā¦literally and metaphorically, to that end.ā She groaned, shaking her head. Still, his closing sentiment was nice enough, and it brought another smile back to her face.
āQuite. I had been afraid once it was all over that we would be scattering to the winds, never to see one another again - but a number of us are instead remaining here to aid each other. Far more satisfactory than Alm retreating to his village, or Lady Celica to her convent.ā
āThen he must trust you considerably.ā Another reason, Leon supposed, to hope he had Lady Clairās respect. Not that Leon thought King Alm couldnāt make his own judgements, of course; heād hate for Clair to take that from this conversation.
For all she said about needing help, though, Leon couldnāt imagine anyone would have more ability to rebuild the knights than a noble whoād gone to war on the back of a pegasus herself. The Whitewings were soldiers, but as foreigners they could only offer advice anyways. It would be a challenge that Clair would have to face alone regardless.
Well, not entirely alone. As Clair had said, they had allies.
āHmm... now that you mention it,ā Leon started, a genuine smile inching across his face. He tapped his chin thoughtfully before continuing.Ā āHave you met any of Celicaās other knights? Er-- Her Highness. Mother Mila, am I going to forget that every time...ā He shook his head, but the smile remained.Ā āThereās a man I know. Valbar. Heās the kindest person Iāve ever met, and heās bound to be some help with training if you ask him for it. Not a pegasus knight, of course, but heās very handy with a spear.ā
poregidaā:
Kamui sets his hand on the hilt of his blade and motions to draw it, before Leonās request is completely clarified and he slides it completely back in its sheathe with an audible clack.
āĀ are you kiddinā me??Ā āĀ he grumbles.Ā āĀ donāt you have anything else to use??Ā iām surprised you donāt keep one of those pocket-mirrors with how vain you are.Ā ā
maybe heās a little sensitive, but the mercenary has yet to see a blade like those he prefers sold in Valentia.Ā heās a little protective of it, because heād have to rethink his technique with a new blade.
āHmph,ā Leon said. He couldnāt blame Kamui for not liking the suggestion, but on the other hand, he wasnāt about to buy an expensive mirror just to have it break the moment someone accidentally kicked his bag. That would be the definition of a waste.
āCome on, itās just for a second.ā Leon pouted, though he wasnāt so foolish as to try taking Kamuiās sword without asking.Ā āWhy would I get a mirror when I can just use something else? Thatās unnecessary. So--ā
He gave Kamui the most innocent smile he could muster.Ā āPlease? Iād owe you one...ā
poregidaā:
all of Chairlyās staggered breathing seems to disappear with one loud huff.Ā itās a great motion, drawing her body lurching forward over her legs.Ā when she rises back to full height, sheās smiling.
āĀ i can do that!!Ā āĀ she says.Ā āĀ iām used to not really doing much of anything.Ā ā
she puts all her weight onto one bare foot ( the left one )Ā and lifts her right hand to twirl a finger into her hair.Ā āĀ i have friends that normally help me with my hair but none of them know how to do makeupā¦Ā so it means a lot to me that you said youād help!!Ā ā
That explained how someone so uncoordinated could manage to appear relatively well-groomed.Ā āRelativelyā because she still had set her hair in a bit of disarray with that running, and Leon couldnāt fathom why she wasnāt wearing shoes. Did she leave them behind somewhere?
āSo, ah... How old are you again?ā he started, politely.Ā āI can show you, of course, but...ā How did he say he was already seeing this end somewhat disastrously? Leon forced a smile. He couldnāt just say no now that heād already agreed.
ā...Okay, first rule.ā Leon held up one finger to emphasize.Ā āYouāre doing your own makeup. Iāll show you once, but then youāre not learning anything if someone else does it for you. Fair?ā
jasperlionā:
Oh, a laugh! Not a full blown one, his friend had decided to deny him that honor, but Sir Purr would tally that a win, and that was final.Ā āCuteā was point reduction, but he supposed it was made up byĀ āthematicā, and so he would take the compliment with as much grace as he could muster in his furnace of a costume.Ā āThank you!ā He chirped, about as pleased of himself as he could look when his face was entirely covered, posture not even faltering.
Of course, his costume was, on a whole, put to shame by the otherās own, which seemed a lot more elegant and, well, breathable.Ā āApollo, huh?ā He echoed the name, thoughtful, then gave a nod of approval. It seemed to fit as well as the gloves onĀ āApolloāsā costume. āI like it.āĀ
He liked it about as much as the suggestion to just throw out the cloak. As much as he didnāt want to lose any of his clothes in the ball before heading home, the whole costume was becoming his own personal hearth to contain the flames of his bad decisions.Ā āIā I think Iāll take you up on that, but, er, yes. Yes, I danced.ā A few tugs at a belt and clip and, yes!, he was free! Folding it over his arm temporarily, Sir Purr then turned his attention back to Apollo.
āIt was a little more fun than I expected, but I kind of felt bad for my partners. Iām honestly not the best at this stuff.ā Considering one of those dances was to make up for being a klutz in the first place, he wasnāt sure he made a good impression with that quiet lady whose dress he had almost ruined.
āAnd you? Danced with anyone yet?ā He directed his question with a tilt of his head to the left, curious.Ā āI personally spent more time snatching snacks off the buffet.ā
āWhy thank you,ā Leon replied, dipping his head in the barest of bows. Any compliments would be well-received this evening; even if he wasnāt quite as opulently dressed as some of the other attendees, he hadĀ put in some effort.
Of course, so had Sir Purr here, clearly. It was a little unfortunate that it hadnāt gone to plan, but better he not suffer any heat stroke under all that, hm?
āI havenāt been dancing much myself.ā The admission was accompanied by a regretful glace to the dance floor, but Leon truly couldnāt blame anyone else for that fact. It was half that heād been caught up in seeing the sights, and half that he barely knew how to approach anyone. An event like this was bound to be full of royalty -- people who wouldnāt appreciate the lack of formality Leon was used to. He didnāt like the idea of tainting an otherwise happy evening with rejection.
Leon clapped gloved hands together, ending that train of thought before it could carry him away. āWell! At the very least thereās always the next one. Plenty of time for a few dancing lessons. And for now, maybe you can give me some advice on the food,ā he added with a laugh. Leave it to a teenager to have already raided the display of appetizers.Ā āI donāt think Iāve eaten all evening, now that weāre talking about it.ā
//ha... drafts are complete and just need icons, Iāll be posting them as soon as I get some art slapped down
jasperlionā:
The voice but solidifiedĀ āSir Purrāsā idea on who this was, and while he was genuinely pleased at finding a friend at the festivities, the mask didnāt really help him convey it wordlessly when it came to his face. At least the fact that Sir Purrās posture relaxed immensely probably was a dead give-away, however.
āOh! Taking like a fish to water, then?ā He asked the older man, although this coming from this particular person⦠he really shouldnāt be so surprised to find the other man enjoyed parties like these. Still something to keep in mind.Ā āPleased to find youāve been enjoying yourself.ā
āAs for meā¦ā A huff escaped him then, hands twitching as he resisted the urge to just cross his arms in a more casual posture. āA little warm might be an understatement⦠I really should have picked a simpler mask.ā
He had been lucky enough to find a bunch of masks for the ball (and it had been the only reason he had even considered coming), and yet he picked the full face mask on a whim. Really, he was his own undoing sometimesā most of the time.
Sir Purrās attention returned to the dance floor for a few brief moments, then back to his companion.Ā āIn the spirit of this whole masquerade thing, how may I call you, Sir?ā Arms akimbo, he looked up to Leon his fellow masked man and puffed his chest.
āI amā¦ā Pausing for effect, and to make sure he was strictly looking at the otherās face for the reaction, he waited a few seconds before dropping the joke.Ā āSir Purr.ā
āOh--ā This time Leon had to cover his mouth for real, lest his companion hear him laugh a bit too loudly to be polite. Still, a chuckle or two escaped despite his effort. āAha... Sir Purr? Thatās so...ā Silly was the word he would have used. ā...Thatās cute. Very thematic, Iād say.ā
He still didnāt envy any part of that outfit, though. Even if he could appreciate the coordination involved, Leon himself had taken care to wear something heād last the evening in. Nothing fun would come of feeling -- and therefore looking -- as though he was melting underneath his clothes.
āIt would be a shame to take off that disguise and lose the mystery of the evening,ā Leon conceded. His gaze stopped again on the features of the mask, and another unconscious smile crept to his lips as he remembered that pseudonym again.Ā āI wasnāt planning to get quite so into things, but... hm. It looks like some fun. You could call me... Apollo, maybe?ā
It did seem a bit ostentatious, but, well... his friend was wearing a lion mask. Leon was pretty sure he could get away with whatever name he picked.
āMaybe you could drop the cloak instead? Itās a nice outfit, donāt get me wrong, but it looks sweltering. I donāt know how you could dance in something like that.ā He paused, thinking.Ā āHave you? Been dancing, I mean.ā
lifedeniedā:
āQuite indeed,ā The mage strides forward, heels clicking while she approaches, ever since sheās acquired a sword itās felt a bit strange in her hands. Itās quite different from tomes, where one would have to worry about the wear and tear of the pages. Swords are entirely different, since the user would have to worry about it snapping in half or about it dulling.Ā
Sheās never gotten a chance to speak with Leon one on one before, so itās never late than never!Ā
āI do, you see, my sword has dulled considerably since Iāve required it.ā She eyes the weapon in his hand, then raising a brow,Ā āsomething happen with your bow?ā
āOh, it was just time for a new string. Iād be embarrassed if I went out with it as is and it snapped right when I needed it...ā Leon made a grimace at the thought.Ā āOr, worse than embarrassed, Iād be pretty defenseless.ā
It wasnāt the same as a sword simply breaking in two, of course. Leon had the sense to keep extra strings with himself on the battlefield -- something not quite as possible with bladed weapons. Maintenance was doable in combat, but that didnāt mean he shouldnāt stop by and check whether the rest of the bow was still good while he had the opportunity.
The archer stood, his business here done now that his bow was up to his standards.Ā āSo you have to get that sharpened, is all? Shouldnāt take long.ā He could wait, maybe. Sonya seemed pleasant company.Ā ā...Not that I know much of swords. But werenāt you more of a magic sort of person...?ā
Among the crowd of masked strangers, one came to 'Sir Purr's' attention soon enough. Someone he felt might be familiar, someone he knew. Well, no way to know unless one took the plunge, right? Approaching the taller man with a small wave, he offered a small dip of his head as a greeting. "Evening! How's the ball been going for you?" That sounded friendly but distant enough, right?
The lion mask caught his attention first, enough so that Leon almost didnāt realize this individual was trying to get his attention. Heād expected the ornate, decorative sort of things that most guests were wearing. This, though. This was new.
ā--Hah, Iām sorry. Was I staring?ā His hand darted up to hide his mouth, stifling a small laugh. He probably owed a more serious apology depending on what manner of royalty might be behind that mask, but the cheery atmosphere had him in a good mood.
ā...Well, itās been pleasant enough for me,ā he responded after a pause, recovered now from the slight embarrassment. āEverythingās so grand, isnāt it? It would be lovely if I could attend events like this more often. Iāll just have to enjoy this one as much as I can, I suppose.ā
It took another moment to realize that his new acquaintanceās outfit reminded Leon of someone he knew. Blue and red, green eyes -- Leonās smile grew by a fraction. He had a guess, but where was the fun in that? No, disguises were the name of the event.
āHowās your evening been? You must be a little warm in all of that. I thought Iād opt out of getting too into the mystique, but you seem more dedicated.ā
//aw heck, I forgot I had put in my about that leon is rigelian,
I cannot find a source for that besides the (unsourced) wiki so Iām changing it to zofian, if anyone has an actual source for where that info may have come from please hmu
//canāt resist a good opportunity to dress up,
if I have time maybe leon will join in on the masquerade? but at the very least heās got the clothes for it
@lifedenied
āFunny place to meet, isnāt it?ā Leonās eyes were up away from his bow for only a moment, and then his focus was back to the weapon in his lap. Weapon maintenance was a necessity no matter where they were, and he wasnāt about to be caught with a weak bowstring in the middle of a fight.
ā...But then, I suppose everyone has to stop by the blacksmith now and again.ā The archer finished fiddling with the string and gave it a few perfunctory tugs.Ā āDid you have business here, or were you by some chance looking for me?ā
//hi if anyone wants to write with leon please hmu, Iām definitely more fond of plotting but I can also just slap some starters down for anyone who likes this post? I just miss writing himmm
@poregida
"Hey. Let me see your sword.ā Leonās hand was already out, palm up, waiting for Kamui to pass the weapon over. It wasnāt as though they had somewhere to be yet; this ragtag army of Celicaās wouldnāt be moving until everyone had gotten up and ready, and Leon kept enough of a soldierās schedule still to be an early riser. And Kamui, well... Leon wasnāt about to guess at his mental state, but he was at least awake enough to give Leon a response.
ā...Please,ā Leon added, begrudgingly tacking the word onto the end of his sentence.Ā āMy armorās gotten too worn lately, itās about as reflective as a used spoon. And Iām not about to walk around with bedhead if I can help it.ā
āFrankly, I donāt really care. Iām quite alright with people thinking my pretty face hides too sharp a tongue -- as long as they remember theĀ āpretty faceā part.ā
caraideanā:
A shake. Not highborn, then, unless heās one of the brash types. Yet how could a commoner get that damned-
She forced herself to avoid thinking about it, giving him a polite smile instead. It wouldnāt do to have oneās first impression on a new comrade be one of simmering jealousy, and perhaps more importantly she didnāt want to isolate herself from the circle that Celica had created during her own struggles. The new world they were going to be living in moving forwards will be complicated enough without conflicts that could have been entirely avoided.Ā
āMost likely, yes.ā Clair agreed, trying not to be too haughty just for a little while. It may take her an active effort, but to her credit she was improving from where sheād been at the start of the war.Ā āIām one of the few remaining members of Zofiaās pegasus knights - well, Valentiaās pegasus knights now, I suppose. With the Whitewings leaving us shortly I imagine Iāll have my hands full trying to help our air forces rebuild in general for the time being, without much in the way of leaving the capital.ā
āWhat of yourself, Sir Leon? Is your oath along the lines of bodyguard duty, or are you going to take an active part in field work?ā
āAh, so you know His Majesty Alm.ā Paying closer attention to his words this time kept Leon from making the same mistake twice -- but at least he hadnāt known Alm aside from rumors that happened to leak their way across the continent during the war. It would be a little easier to become accustomed to that title over Celicaās.
He had heard the Whitewings were leaving, too.Ā āIāll be sad to see those three leave,ā he continued,Ā āespecially knowing how experienced they are. Have you spoken to them much? I hear the fliers of that Macedon country are all that good, you know. Iām sure they have plenty of tips that they could give our new rulers. And of course, theyāre certainly good company...ā
Leon had been waving a hand around, gesturing a bit as he spoke, but as he trailed off it stilled. It likely wasnāt encouraging to hear how great these foreign pegasus knights were. āBut then, a talented young woman such as yourself must know plenty about those matters, being a knight already,ā he added. His words were accompanied by yet another apologetic smile.Ā āI simply havenāt met any Zofian pegasus knights recently. Though I suppose that Iāll have plenty of opportunity to change that.ā
Perhaps he should be worrying less about being insulting. As knights they really would be spending some time together in the future. And really, honesty was something that had always come naturally to Leon. āIām not quite sure where Iāll be serving. I think,ā he paused, āI donāt mind where Iām needed. I would imagine a bow knight such as myself isnāt exactly guard material, so itās likely Iāll be out handling bandits and the like. Or maybe training recruits -- that could be fun. Iām happy as long as Iām still able to see my friends now and again. Is that strange to say, for a real knight?ā
