i guess it just boils down to: the popular conception of a butch on tumblr is so different from what i am as a butch. i have long hair and long nails, i like to wear cute clothes, i like skirts and dreses, i want to wear cute jewelry and high heels, and i want to be seen as masc while doing that. i want people to see it and understand that i want to be seen as gender nonconforming

i feel like i should say this only applies to me specifically. the last thing i want is to imply butches HAVE to do or wear anything considered feminine by society at large. i'm saying this as someone who has it ingrained in their own personal belief system that nothing in this world is inherently masculine or feminine, and that nothing should have a gender attached to it. this is why i'm advocating for this so hard, because i want to be able to wear a dress sometimes without being seen as feminine

for the last one i don’t just mean oh the author inadvertently wrote in gay subtext or whatever i’m talking about media as a cultural artifact which can reveal a ton about societal norms, biases, ideals, etc. it’s all about positionality and an unexamined positionality is often the most revealing of all
