the thing with michele and lila is soooo incredibly gender-orientated in a sense that he doesn't view her as a woman, but an extension of his own being, so almost a man, or a man in all the ways that matter according to him. think about elena's franco-inspired analysis that sparks a book later on. michele and lila from michele's point of view is as if a man didn't have to try and rearrange a woman to mirror his own reflection, michele sees lila as someone who already exists in that shape. and the fact that lila exists as not quite female, as in the definition of female michele nurtures, is what makes it so easy for lila to direct michele to alfonso, who is also a person who exists in opposition to gender as they all understand it. and most of all... lila recognises the similarity between herself and michele too. that's the card she plays when she makes a deal with him. that's why he is her target instead of marcello.
