i think we as a society need to use cell phones/laptops/cars/backpacks to flesh out characters

like. a character has a cracked phone screen and a dozen stickers and a glittery case and a photo of their dog as a background. that says so much

or a character has a completely plain phone with no decorations and a default home screen and all the contacts are people's first names with no profile photos. except for one contact which is a stupid nickname and a shot of someone taken at a very unflattering angle. you know?

or cars!!! someone who has a disgusting car, with trash everywhere and mud caking the seats, but the passenger seat is always clean, because someone else always cleans it for them.

From my experience - this is a BIG part of character design. A character isn't just a face or a body, it's a series of choices.

Every piercing is a decision they made, every tattoo involved sitting for hours and then carefully caring for it afterward. Do they wear bracelets? What kind? Do they have meaningful trinkets they carry around, or are they minimalist and spartan?

Characters impact the world around them and customize their spaces. Pay attention to those details and you'll have a much more fleshed out being to play with :)

Ok kids if you haven't heard this one before:

Alice's restaurant is an almost 30 minute song that is protesting the Vietnam war and the draft but that is peripheral to its main thing, which is telling the story of the Thanksgiving Day Garbage Massacre (Humorous Event)

My dad played it in the car when on a road trip when I was 7 and it permanently changed my brain chemistry and that's why I'm like this (also Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy but mostly this)

It is absolutely worth sitting down and really savoring it for 30 minutes. Just don't do it *immediately* after dinner because you will laugh so hard you will puke.

OK SO a frozen baby Homotherium mummy has been found in Siberian permafrost and everybody is going nuts (including me). I had to make another installmente for this series with a figurine that has long been debated to either depict either a lion or Homotherium; Despite anatomical details pointing to the latter, there was no record of surviving Homotherium from the time the figurine was dated to have been made, so it was mostly believed to have been a cave lion. However, the frozen cub closes that temporal gap and makes it more likely that this was in fact the subject of the sculpture. So even though it’s not a painting, here it is brought to life.
