ok now things that were excellent about the hunger games:

-katniss’ character arc

-i mean it like katniss is a) a traumatized woman whose b) pain is never glossed over or overlooked, whose grief and coping mechanisms are put at the front and center of the narrative, and whose trauma is absolutely critical part of any coherent reading of the story

-her emotions are treated as legitimate and valid regardless of what causes them. she is allowed to be irrational; she is allowed to be furious. she is allowed to be complicated and illogical and angry at her circumstances in a way that was (and continues to be) revolutionary for a female character in YA fiction

-her only parent is a single mother whose mental illness and grief in the aftermath of her husband’s death has prevented her from taking care of her children, and the consequences of this in terms of how it affects her relationships with her children play out in a realistic and nuanced way

-katniss’ friendship with gale is just that. a friendship. no matter what happens in the later books in the hunger games she and gale are just best buds who shoot stuff in the woods and forage together. their friendship has no strings attached and it was a breath of fresh air while it lasted

-her relationship with peeta is grounded in an interesting conversation about what it means for people in poverty to show solidarity with each other, and what that solidarity can look like, and how even minute acts of kindness can have incredible impacts to those on the receiving end of them. this isn’t even a huge part of the books it’s just nice to see

-peeta never does creepy shit or tries to coerce her or acts entitled to katniss’ love. he’s nice to her. he like, idk, genuinely acts like he likes her? which is wildly rare for a lot of Y/A love interests?? and he’s in love with her but that’s all, he only uses it as a Games strategy on his end, he doesn’t act like a complete ass about it and the fact that i’m as grateful for this narrative decision as i am is pretty depressing but i am nevertheless

-collins pulls zero punches in depicting the horrors and aftermath of the games themselves. she does not fuck about glorifying or romanticizing the ordeal. she makes all but explicit that the hunger games is a scathing critique of television/reality shows/movies and how they’re tied into capitalist structures, to the point where she all but spells out on the page “THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY’S MANIPULATION AND ABUSE OF CHILDREN IS IMMORAL AND THE FACT THAT WE HAVE ALL BECOME SO NUMB TO IT IS A VERY VERY BAD THING” 

-katniss’ hyper-awareness of the cameras and where they are at any given point and in any given scene is a very nice use of detail. like she’s constantly noticing lenses, screens, mirrors, basically anything that could be used as a surveillance device, and it really sets a nice atmosphere of paranoia and supervision that both lets us into her headspace and paints a broader picture of the capitol in general

-the capitol in general is also really well done; the sheer lavishness and luxury is depicted in gorgeous detail, and you can almost feel yourself being pulled into the scene – except collins always holds you back from getting totally absorbed in the facade of the Games, keeping you skillfully positioned at a far enough distance that you can see the horror underneath

-just all the little details about the Games that she included. tesserae. volunteering. the “career tributes.” the mentor system. the stylists. the initial chariot ride. the interviews. the balls. the training. the evaluations. the sponsors. it really does make the Games feel like a real event that a lot of people put a lot of thought into the ritual and ceremony of, horrific content aside.

-and that’s also the point! that you can get so wrapped up in the politicking and emotional dramas surrounding the Games that you forget what they are: an indefinite round of blood sport played out to the death with twenty-four unwilling child participants

-how expertly the gamemakers turn the kids against each other, playing on their fears and insecurities to produce more convincing conflict and rivalries

-how you almost forget that they’re children, except collins won’t let you forget. she keeps reminding you. in death scenes especially there is unique attention paid to noticing how small tributes are, how they look immature, how they’re inexperienced or dumb or make bad decisions, and it all points you again and again to the recurring realization that they’re children. this. is happening. to children.

-the way that the capitol distances itself from the Games by refusing to really confront the reality of death, which read a certain way is a very cutting critique of how western media uses the framing of images and metaphor to distance itself from the tragedies it often uses for content

-basically the hunger games is a nuanced and magnificent text

-literally these books were so fucking good

A Cresswell-Tangled crossover! I started this thing over a year ago, but it wasn’t working out so I stopped and was like I can always get back to it later, knowing that that would probably not happen lol. I still had the unfinished piece in my drafts, so every time I went to drafts it was there glaring at me. And now I finally finished it because the shipweeks gave me a reason to pick it back up :p I finished most of the line-art last time, but I had to redraw a lot because it’s been over a year and I’ve improved since then, and obviously something wasn’t working out before. That I was able to make it work this time means I actually learned things last year, which feels good :)  Anyway! Today’s shipweek theme was ‘lights’ and this thing accidentally fits because of the lyrics, so I waited till today to post it.

A lot of people say they wants to see Reddie made canon in the 2019 sequel

But I personally think this would took A LOT of things from Richie’s, but mostly Eddie’s, characterization.

Like, the internal homophobia who is very important in Eddie’s character.

I never seen someone put this out, but I think is very important to remember what Eddie saw at the baseball field. I mean guys, G U Y S, he thought about Patrick, and admitted he doesn’t want to think about him because Beverly saw he and Henry Bowers made “bad things together” and he wanted to see his wife right now.

He’s forty.

He’s an adult, a married man.

Who said to need his wife, who he never tought about neither when he was fucking dying, because he knew there were two boys who have jerked off each other.

And then, when Pennywise arrived, what the fuck the clown said to him?

If he wanted a blowjob. (again, because 11 y/o Eddie was afraid of that too)

If Reddie was canon in the film, Eddie would have accepted this part of himself.

But he can’t yet.

He accepted himself, what he always had felt, only in the last seconds of his life, only in that moment, when he was looking at Richie crying, he taught that maybe it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t bad at all.

Only in that moment he licked his lips, and give his really last words to the person who needed them the most, the one who isn’t capable to say anything because, fuck, Eddie is dying, is not a risk, is a fact, they can’t get out of this, they can’t do anything.

Eds is going away forever.

“Richie, you know I… I…”

And, while he was thinking how to continue, he died.

And then, there are people who wants with all they heart to see Richie taking out of the sewer Eddie’s body, like in the miniserie.

But, I’ll tell you this fellas, if I need to sacrifice Richie’s anger and sorrow, Richie’s tears and swears to Bill and all the other, when he remained the only one who just can’t let Eddie all alone in the dark, because he would hated it, even if he would need to risk his life for a person who is already dead.

If I need to sacrifice Richie’s part of the story for giving Eddie a grave no one would never go to visit…

Then I don’t want to.

Because Reddie is a thing in the book, even if they’re not a “Canon relationship”, even if in Eddie’s wiki he is still married to Myra Kaspbrak, when he said himself he knew he only married his mom, they have a beautiful relationship, a romantic relationship from what I read, but I don’t need a kiss to prove that they do loved each other, because Reddie isn’t the goofy ship we love in the fanon, is a sad story, about two men who loved, got lost, loved again and got lost forever.

Stephen give us the saddest possibility of the two, but he gave us one which really showed us who they were and I want to see it, because I fell for this Loser Club.

And for their very happy ending I still have fanfiction.

Ok so I was the first one to ask after embarrassing myself terribly and putting my hand up way to early to ask the following question:

What were Will’s last words?

Everyone started to chatter and were shook by the morbid question but then Cassie answered by saying she never really thought about it but his last words were either:

• I love you, Tessa.

Or

• Jem is here

I also asked if Rafael had kept any Argentinian traditions to which Cassie replied to with:

Alec and Magnus are trying to keep him in touch with his culture as much as they can such as speaking to him in Spanish etc. but the amount they can do is limited due to Rafe having lost his family. But they do keep in touch with the institute in Argentina!

Some additional things:

•She loves Julian and is happy people sympathise/empathise with him

•Livvy is significant in TWP and can go through the wards in idris and see what is going on. However, the further she strays from Ty the weaker she gets.

•Kit would not be a moody herondale. He will be more grounded but will still have hints of his thieving mind.

•There will be a 10th anniversary of clockwork angel where birthdays will be revealed etc

• The location of Cardair idris was actually inspired when she visited with her husband and they found out about the Hollow Mountain used by Arthurian knights that had to wait there until they were called to serve England.

•One of Jaime’s tattoos is a reference to him being able to control his temper

•Some murder in twp which may or may not be linked to ash (she was kinda vague about this akfkakfoqkdkw)

• Thule Jace is EXTREMELY broken, tortured etc and a creepy character

• Cardan is embarrassed of his tail because he can’t control it because it reacts depending on his emotions.

• Madoc may or may not die in TQON (it was heavily implied that he might but she might have been trolling idk)

• Jude makes more questionable decisions in TQON

Magnus cast a few protective spells to ward them as they slept, then joined Alec on the sofa, climbing over one arm and crawling on top of Alec like Chairman Meow would have if they were home. He draped himself across Alec’s body, tucked his face into the curve of Alec’s neck, and inhaled the scent of him. Alec’s arm went around Magnus’s back, stroking a shoulder blade. Magnus dropped a kiss on the underside of Alec’s jaw and rubbed his cheek lightly against the rough scrape of Alec’s two-day stubble. He felt Alec draw in a shuddering breath.

“Come and hold me,” Alec whispered. “I want you next to me.”

Magnus glanced up at him. Alec’s eyes were closed and he was breathing deeply.

Come and hold me. I want you next to me. Maybe it was easier for Alec to say things like that when he was half asleep. It hadn’t occurred to Magnus that Alec might feel self-conscious, saying things like that. He’d thought Alec didn’t want to say them.

Magnus did as requested and curled his body around Alec’s. Their legs tangled together. Magnus traced a forefinger across Alec’s cheek, down to his mouth. Alec’s lashes were long, thick, and dark, curving to touch the tops of his cheekbones. His lips were full and soft, his hair a tumble of rough black silk. He looked vulnerable in a way that was hard to square, sometimes, with the cold-eyed, arrow-slinging warrior he became in battle…
