September 24, 2016: Celebration Saturday
This weekend I flew out to NYC in order to attend Echo’s “graduation.” On Saturday, I took a train out to Long Island with three of my good friends, who I stayed with in NYC. Celebration Saturday is a very casual sit down where puppy raisers (+guests) and sponsors sit with the graduates and chat about the dogs, life, etc. There is a slide show from the class show, followed by a narrated video which includes the dogs meeting their handlers for the first time, first walks, and other various walks and obstacle courses done during class. The video is followed by cake, cookies, and a tour sometimes (we got a tour).
So without further ado,I introduce Rachel and Echo as a working pair :) I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Rachel last year when she had her last poodle, Salem. Salem is Echo’s full older brother (HOW COOL), so Echo getting matched with Rachel has been a really “full circle” type thing.
So basically Saturday was amazing. Lots of good tears were shed from many parties. Echo was ecstatic to see me (it took her a solid two minutes of me sitting there for her to realize who it was, but then she freaked). We caught up on how class had gone and just generally chatted with my friends who were there and Rachel’s friend who attended. Echo will be living a busy life in a big city and taking the subway everyday. I’m very excited for her! According to Rachel, Echo was in her element the day they went to NYC while on class.
We walked around campus a bit for a small tour of the Training Center and I got to see Echo guiding Rachel along sidewalks and on crosswalks. Echo is awesome and it’s hard to wrap my head around this fantastic working dog she’s become. No longer my baby poodle.
I could go on and on about how awesome this team is but I’ll leave it be for now. Let’s just say I could not be more confident that Echo is where she was meant to be.
You did good, little poodle, you did good.
This handsome boy is 10 months old and 81.2 pounds 😳
I found out that Echo has been matched with her forever person.
I am crying and ecstatic because my dear little one did it. She has become a kickass guide and has been working with her person for almost a week. She has been matched with a friend of mine which makes this even more amazing.
This city kid will be moving to another large city and kicking butt riding public transit. She has made me so proud and I don’t really have the words to express my feelings.
Echo will graduate this coming Saturday so I am super excited to be flying out to NYC Friday.
So. To my little poodle who can’t stop, won’t stop: You did good. You are good. You are incredible.
I will see you soon.
oh my! 3 for 3?! thats incredible ! Congrats (:
