Wow, what a difference 12 hours can make! This morning I had my first ever panic attack. My chest grew tight, I was hyperventilating, and I felt like my heart had fallen out of my body. It only lasted 2 minutes but I thought I was going to die. And then I burst into tears. . My anxiety has been growing in the past couple of weeks. I have only eaten twice in the past 5 days. I constantly check to see if my gate is being opened at home. I’m uncomfortable in my skin. I developed anxiety about 5 years ago but, as you all know, I’ve been open about my bipolar II disorder for well over a decade so mental “illness” isn’t a foreign idea to me. And yet, today felt so different. This week really. Anxiety, fear, sadness (but not depression), frustration, shame, confusion. These emotions have sunk in deep over the past 2 weeks. . But! I’ve learnt from my past mistakes. I have reached out. I have been counselled. I have felt the love and support flow towards me from family and friends. Even those of you who didn’t even realise I was struggling have been wonderful, caring, loving. It means the world to me. Thank you ❤️. . I have realised some home truths: . 1) You can’t help people until they’re ready. And they may never be ready for you. You may be a trigger for them. And that’s ok. That’s for them to work through. It is not up to you to apologise or try to fix something about yourself when you aren’t broken. 2) Reach out for help for yourself BEFORE you go down a path that might be damaging for yourself. 3) Embrace yourself. Faults and all. People love you for a reason. You aren’t supposed to fit into everyone’s jigsaw, and that’s ok. 4) After all that talking and self reflection, drive around for a few hours and sing your lungs out to a killer soundtrack. 5) Go home and cuddle your dog. . . . I am now at stage 5. 🥰🐶❤️ .
