OKAY so obviously this is a "pinkie but if she was from trolls dreamworks" so i'll state some explanations and what the rest of the cast would be if i never get to drawing them </3
Pinkie Pie - Country Troll. I see a lot of people put her under pop/funk, which I believe YES she would definitely sing those the most (a multi-cultural troll) but I think it'd be the same way Cooper lived with the pop trolls and is pop-funk, but still a funk troll. It'd also explain Pinkie's whole "rock farm" shtick, and I don't think she'd be able to be any other genre while maintaining that core part of her character. I think she'd be a country troll that identifies as country/pop/funk but is willing to sing and participate in anything.
Apple Jack - Country Troll. This ones more obvious and I don't think I need to explain it all too much. She's a country pony, she sings country, she works hard, she works on a farm, provides for her family. Very country troll at heart.
Fluttershy - Rock Troll. OKAY now HEAR ME OUT. I think Fluttershy would've grown up amongst Rock trolls and been raised as one, but moved to Pop troll territory (amongst wildlife) and identified as Pop from then on. Why? It'd keep the whole, "fluttershy falls from cloudsdale (her home) and earns her cutiemark in another area" and the "fluttershy was bullied for being different than the other ponies". She's not a stereotypical pegasus, and she got bullied for it. I don't think she'd be bullied as much in this au as I view most rock trolls as pretty accepting in general and Barb was just a special case, but idk up to you. I think it'd also give explanation as to how she and Rainbow could be childhood best friends.
Rainbow Dash - Rock Troll. This is kind of obvious, again, like Apple Jacks. I'm not sure if I need to explain this too much tbh. I think Rainbow would be raised as a Rock troll and really love rock, but discover Techno and become mixed genre and wear things from Techno culture. It just fits in my opinion.
Twilight Sparkle - POP TROLL. Now you're probably all like. WHAAAAAAAT? But hear me out it makes sense. First off, I throw Branch from trolls at you. She's literally like Branch from Trolls THINK ABOUT IT. Secondly, I know most people make her a conductor from what i've seen, or would consider her to be one, but from my memory Twilight was NOT actually from some rich successful family. Shining Armor married into Royalty, and Twilight was a naturally gifted student who was granted access to rich, successful opportunities by Celestia herself. If it wasn't for those two things, I think her family would actually be pretty damn mediocre. It'd also add to her whole thing of not fitting in. Like, amongst Canterlot ponies, Twilight looks STARKLY out of place. Her body type doesn't even align with most Canterlot ponies, so.
Rarity - Pop/Country Mix . Again. WHAAT? But it fits. I think Rarity would deeply look up to Classical trolls and aspire to be like one, but she wouldn't actually be one. I think she'd identify as Classical/Pop and not really identify with the Country side of her. I think her father would've been a country troll and her mother a pop troll (it'd explain their appearances and demeanors). It'd also add to why she feels so inferior as to what she wants to accomplish. She wants to be among the loyal, the elite, and believes what she's been born as isn't that and that she'd be looked down on forever just because of where she was born from and raised (which is lowkey mlp racism in a nutshell 99% of the time but whatever you didn't hear that from me). Appearance wise she'd look more like a pop troll though. Sweetie Belle having a country troll body would be sooo cute auhg. Anyhway.
Spike - Rock/Techno Mix. Now, what the hell, right? But I think it'd help add to his entire "I don't fit in, and nobody really knows where my family is or where I came from". Now hear me out. I THINK he'd have a body similar to a Techno Troll (maybe flippers, or he'd have a techno tail) but mostly be colored like a Rock troll. Hell, maybe he'd have a couple markings that are Techno descent. I think because he's a mix, he'd be excluded like in canon by default and struggle with his identity. It'd also add to the whole "dragons are evil and volcanic" which is what the rock part would be. Now, to add to it, I don't think he'd identify as either. I think he'd identify as Pop. Maybe Pop/Funk. It just makes sense to me, honestly.
IM a little sad none of the mane 6 or spike technically fit into Funk troll category bc i love funk trolls but if i could think of an mlp character off the top of my head thatd have the vibe of funk im gonna go for like. scootaloo or something. i'd kill for scootaloo to be a funk troll in a similar situation as Cooper i think it'd be cute and make sense (and explain why her parents didnt ever show up till later, funk trolls are the only genre im aware of that are sort of like nomads, since they live in a moving spaceship).
Wait, is Barb lesbian coded the same way that Floyd is gay coded? Im confused, could you please tell us more about that part, unless I misunderstood one of your posts
Oki this might be long post and her coding is a lot less subtle than Floyd's gay coding. Its mostly like, vibes, association and how she carries herself

And her father's words "Just let everyone be who they wanna be, including you" and then right after that dressing up in rainbows with the woman she very obviously has a thing for, whether or not Poppy recuperates the feelings back but thats not important to this explanation
And yes, it can be seen as simply queer coding and not a specific label. But like. Come on. Many lesbian trolls fans literally looked at Barb and immediately recognized her as a butch lesbian.
Just like Floyd's coding not everything needs to be spelled out for the audience the crew is trying to represent. Just like how the Funk Trolls are black, us black fans immediately recognized that.
And it always bugs me that sometimes some fans, who arent even lesbians see that as "stereotyping" Barb and then in turn trying to "subvert" by going "she can be masc and still be into men!!" Cuz some people need to realize some people can easily live their lives without being attracted to men.
They're enjoying the first warm rays of early spring sun and trying to figure out where the new hidden underground hub is - it's not going so well, but hey it's a nice day.
