Lava Queen's New Kingdom

FANFIC - Lava Queen plots to restore and expand the Lava Pit into her new world. Even if it means conquering Peach's Castle.

I'm sorry for those who have enjoyed this story, but I have lost motivation to continue this story along. It's been years since the last chapter and I have no idea how to progress it.

If it's up to you, feel free to come up with your own ending...

CHAPTER 9 - Rush to Resolve

The vines that wrapped around Spooky Trails were like that of barbed rope. Mario proposed the idea of burning them, however he knew that there was a risk of setting Spooky Trails on fire. There was lots of wood, the combustible and flammable kind. The trio began to look for a safe way to eliminate the vines without causing a fire or severe devastation. 

 "I think I have an idea," said Mario. "Poison mushrooms are more common in Spooky Trails than any other place we've been. If we can gather some, we could use them to corrode the vines!" 

"That could work, but there's a chance the mushrooms could kill us," said Beep-O. 

"We need a crate to transport them." said Mario. "Did we find any boxes when we got here?" 

Everyone shook their heads except Rabbid Luigi. 

"Wait, I think there was some boxes on the stage where we fought Phantom!" Rabbid Luigi chimed in. "Follow me!"

He led the Mario's team to the stage and went behind the curtains, where a sound of rummaging was heard. He came out with a box which he grunted as he carried. 

"A little heavy!" he wheezed, as the contents fell out. A collection of records spilled out onto the floor and scattered around. "Oops!" 

Luigi went over to examine them. 

"These must be music records." 

"Who do they belong to?" 

A shriek rang out as a ghostly presence had burst out of nowhere. 

"MY RECORDS! You have besmirched them!" A large portly Rabbid dressed in Enlightment era clothing with a underside of a ghost glared at them. 

"Ph...Ph...PHANTOM!?" Rabbid Luigi spluttered, as he fell back. "I-I didn't know they were yours!" 

"They were collector items! Mint they are no longer!" he huffed in anger. 

 "M-Mr Phantom, please...we can help fixing them." began Princess Peach, who tried to calm the ghostly rabbid down. Phantom's angered face turned to Peach where it shifted to a surprised and sheepish look. 

"I...do apologize. I vowed never to lose my composure in front of a lady." he sighed. "But what are your companions doing with my possessions?" 

"We only wanted to obtain some Poison mushrooms to destroy the vines." explained Yoshi. "We didn't mean to ruin your discs." 

Phantom rose up in the air as he saw the jungle of vines that enveloped the haunted area. 

"Oh my. They're overdue for a pruning. But worry not, I shall find you these mushrooms!" He rushed over to Peach to whisper to her. "What do they look like, m'lady?" 

Peach whispered back in to his ears. 

"Very well. Up I gooooo!" he sang as he rose up to the air.

"...Well, at least he hasn't held any grudges against us." remarked Beep-O. He looked at Mario, his face was frowning. 

"Rabbid Peach. She must be all alone." he mumbled. 

Beep-O came to him. 

"Come on, this isn't the first time she's been in a situation like this. I know that since the Rabbid Kong saga. Also, you never gave up when saving Peach from the clutches of Bowser." 

"I hope she knows what's she doing though. I don't believe she has got Donkey Kong or Rabbid Cranky to back her up." 

"Well, she ought to have someone by here side."

"Magma...Come in, Magma..." a sound of a two way radio buzzed. The transmitter was Bwario, who was waiting for a response on the other end. "I said, COME IN, MAGMA!" he spoke in a louder and more annoyed voice. "Dag Nabbit! She ain't pickin' up!" He tossed the radio aside and folded his arms. Bwaluigi came into the quarters, he had a burrito halfway in his mouth. 

"No rethponsth?" he muffled. Bwario shook his hard furiously. 

"Nope, she's ghostin' me! I haven't heard a word from her or any of the Lava Kids!" 

"Youth ink sheth gotten into twobble? We thud probsly check it out." 

 "Fine, I'm sick of being in this room anyways." The two Rabbid henchmen got out of their quarters and made their way to the factory.  They opened a large steel door in the floor. As they got in, they noticed the damage. They saw a large hole in one of the walls, a bent catwalk with mangled railings and the remains of Magma's armor, her broken helmet rested on top. 

"I think I know what happened to Magma now." said Bwaluigi, now fazed. 

"Who's gone and done this!?" snapped Bwario. "Now I have to activate the security!" He ran through multiple chambers of the factory and stopped at a large brass door. He got out a card and swiped the electronic slot. With a creaking opening, a plunger styled lever stood in a room surrounded by TVs. "Reinforcement time." Bwario gripped onto the lever and sharply turned it... 

The factory was gigantic, so much that Rabbid Peach was lucky to find a map, and later some bathrooms. Sweet relief. 

"Can you hurry it up in here!? We're not supposed to be sticking around for this long!" Bowser Junior called from outside the lavatories. Rabbid Peach was in one of the stalls. 

"Hey, I had to hold it in for several hours!" she retorted. "I'm almost done, anyway!" Junior reacted by rolling his eyes, he turned to Toadette, now Rabbid Peachette. 

"Y'know, I never thought teaming up with Mario and his friends could be so thrilling. That crown really gave you some skills, huh?" Rabbid Peachette nodded. 

"I wasn't expecting to become a Rabbid, but either way, we showed those Lava Kids what we're made of!" 

"I'm only helping you two for my dad's sake, remember?" 

"Well, you're looking out for him at least!" A sequence of flushing, tap running and drying played as Rabbid Peach finally got out. 

"The cold water was lukewarm and the air dryers were hot as heck! I'd give it one star but the toilets were scented, so that's a redeeming quality." she chatted. 

"Yeah, yeah, save the reviews for home. We got a Spawny to save." dismissed Junior. 

"He's located at the middle of the factory where I presume he's being held captive." 

"Should be a breeze then!" Rabbid Peach cheered. She led the way into the factory and took a right, heading deeper in. She stopped dead her tracks. A large menacing beeping was heard as flashing red sirens blared. A robotic voice came through the speakers. 

"Heightened Security Settings Initiated. Factory entering Lockdown." 

"What... What's happening?" asked Rabbid Peachette in fear. 

"They know we're here..." Junior gasped. "We have to be careful." 

"Lockdown!? What does that mean!?" panicked Rabbid Peach. 

"It means all the entrances here are sealed off! We cannot leave!" Junior got out a tablet and rapidly started typing. "We'll have to find the security room and disable all the locks! In the meantime, the Monty Mole division are planning on targeting the factory's foundation. It's gonna come down!" 

"But what about Spawny?" 

"We'll get him, but he'll probably be heavily guarded. We have to take down this factory's main defences first." Rabbid Peach looked at her two companions. They both had determined looks on their faces. 

"You two ready to go into action?" she asked. The trio looked at the map, which the factory was divided into 6 sections. North Wing, South Wing, East Wing, West Wing and Central Hall. Both the East and West wings appeared to function as generator facilities, fueling the factory with energy. The South Wing housed Bwario and Bwaluigi's quarters and The North Wing was highlighted in red, reading 'RESTRICTED ACCESS'. But the Central Hall was the heart of the factory, where Spawny was used as a battery to produce minions of the Lava Queen. Rabbid Peach suggested splitting up to separate wings, but Rabbid Peachette insisted sticking together, in case they were overwhelmed. 

"We go to the West Wing, and then the East Wing. We have no interest in going to the South Wing." 

"Then what are we stickin' around for? Move Right!' barked Junior as they made their way to the West Wing. Their eyes widened when they saw two Bucklers patrolling the halls. The last thing they needed was to draw attention. Junior got out a small coin and threw it in the air.  The two Bucklers raced for the coin, and ran right past. The trio got to the West Wing and hid in a supply room, watching the two Bucklers search for the noise's source. A large generator sat at the end of the room with wires plugged that led to the ceiling. 

"How do we stop the flow?" asked Rabbid Peach. 

"We cut the power," responded Junior. 

"They gotta' have something to open this machine up." 

Rabbid Peachette saw a lone wrench that rested on a shelf. She grabbed the wrench and went over to the generator, turning it counter-clockwise with several swift blows. There was a loud clanking sound and the lights in the supply room dimmed.

"See? Simple. Now let's get to the East Wing and finish this." A sound of panic came from outside the room as the two Bucklers had rushed in, bewildered at the sudden shut down of the generator. Luckily, it was dark, so the trio had slipped passed them with ease. They immediately ran as fast as they could with no time for stopping.

Phantom had returned, gathering a bubble of Poison Mushrooms in his hands.

"Youuurrr mushrooooomssss!" he sang as he presented them to Peach, who gladly took them. 

"Now we can destroy those vines!" she announced to Mario as the rest of the heroes gathered to the blockage which Peach emptied out the bubble of Poison Mushrooms onto the brambles. The mushrooms did their work as the chemicals of the poison within had dissolved the structures of the vines until they were nothing but weak plant sludge. Mario and the team cheered as they were now free from Spooky Trails.

"P-pardon me." began Phantom. "But what brought you here in Spooky Trails?" 

"Our cannon was sabotaged and redirected us here." explained Luigi. "We thought Bowser could've done this." 

"But we know now that Lava Queen is plotting something against us. She gave Blizzy and Sandy a whole lot of power." added Mario. 

"Lava Queen!? Why, you better get going to the castle then!" said Phantom. Then, an ominous feeling emerged. Peach felt it the most, she wasn't at the castle, and by the looks of it, she felt like it was open for attacks. 

"We have to get to the castle... Now."

Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Peachette and Bowser Junior traversed towards the East Wing stealthily. They had not run into any henchmen. They made their way to the East Wing and immediately set to work, cutting power to the wing's generators.  There was a loud, clattering sound as the generators turned off, plunging the wing into darkness. 

"Now to stop them," said Rabbid Peach. The Central Hall was located in the middle of the factory as it was the heart.  It was here where Spawny was held captive. There was a steel door to get inside. It was heavily guarded, and not even Rabbid Kong could get inside. 

"Oh no!" Rabbid Peachette wailed, "We'll never reach Spawny!" "We reach him or we die!" said Bowser Junior. 

"Then let me try," said Rabbid Peach as she looked to the others. There was a glowing panel in the right corner of the door. As Rabbid Peach tapped on it, the screen flashed. 

"PASSWORD REQUIRED." 

Rabbid Peach looked at the others, at a loss for what to do. The door could only be opened from the outside, and the password would only appear when the door was opened. There was only one idea on what it could be. And so she typed it. The panel blipped once as the password was accepted, and the door slid to the side. Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Peachette and Bowser Junior entered the Central Hall of the Factory. 

"H-H-How did you know!?" stammered Junior. "That was a first try!" 

"I knew Lava Queen was head-over-heels for my man. It had to be MARIO." Rabbid Peach explained smugly. "Spawny, we're coming now."

CHAPTER 8 - Scorching Scramble

"So, you're Rabbid Peach. We've heard all about you..." came a voice.

"We've been anticipating your arrival..." came another.

"And it seems you brought your bodyguards with ya," Rabbid Peach began to look around with an apprehensive glare in her eyes.

"Show yourselves!" she demanded, gripping hard on her arm cannon.

"Okie-dokie! We're done playing Hide and Seek anyway!" the lead voice answered as a group of small Rabbids leapt out of a dangling vent and onto the side of the hallway opposite to Rabbid Peach. It was the Lava Kids, with Magma leading them.

"...And you are?" asked Rabbid Peach as the Lava Kids gathered around her.

"We're the Lava Kids, and I'm Magma, the chief and Lava Queen's trusted mercenary!" Magma proclaimed. "We're gonna have to stop you! Can't risk you foiling our queen's plans!"

The trio readied their weapons which Hibachi took pursuit and rushed at them, which Rabbid Peach leapt over him and made her way to Sizzle. He scuttled back with a yelp as she fired a burst of energy from her arm cannon. Briquette, a female rabbid with a gothic appearance ran towards Magma to offered her a boost to a higher up platform. Magma took a sharp turn as she fired at Rabbid Peach, delivering fiery shots.  The fires latched onto her, causing her run around in panic and roll around, which unfortunately gave Briquette the opportunity. She got out her precision weapon and with a click, fired a shot of honey at Rabbid Peach, immobilizing her. The Lava Kids surrounded Junior and Toadette, and looked to Magma.

"Well? What are you waiting for? Kill them!" Magma shouted.

"Ha, you think we can't fight back!?" Junior jeered. "I'm the son of the Koopa King! I've fought Mario more times, than you'll ever have!"

He armed his hammer and chose Hibachi as his target, striking him and causing him ricochet into Magma, knocking her over. Magma began rolling around on the floor, as two Lava Kids, Spice and Grill got out their sentries and targeted Toadette. Seeing them take off, Toadette scrambled around as she got ahold of the Super Crown and placed it on her head. A blast of Megabug echoed around the hallways, shaking the interior and flipping over the sentries.

"Woah..."

In Toadette's place was a Rabbid with a dress sporting a mushroom-like appearance, a Toad cap-like crown, red earrings, gray irises, pigtails, a magenta ribbon with a yellow brooch, and Toad-like shoes. She had turned into Rabbid Peachette. Even though Rabbid Peach was pinned by honey, she could see Toadette's transformation as her jaw dropped.  

"I...can't believe it."

"What the heck...?" Magma shouted, standing up. "You had that up your sleeve!?"

After a brief examination of her new form, Rabbid Peachette took a massive jump into the air, firing at the Lava Kids. Magma wasn't going to give up easily. She ran towards her, aiming her own blast of burning fire at her. However, Rabbid Peachette's double jump avoided the shot at the last second.  

"Wha-!? Somebody catch her!" Magma snapped.

One of the Lava Kids dove into the air, making a beeline towards Magma, who gave them a boost, hoping to get high above Rabbid Peachette. With her newfound change in form, she still had enough speed to dodge most of the Lava Kids' blasts. One of the sentries attempted to charge at her, but the explosion missed. Junior spun his hammer, ricocheting many of the Lava Kids in a nauseating beatdown as Rabbid Peachette freed Rabbid Peach from the honey.

"Hah! You think that's going to save you?" Magma asked with a huff. "I'll show you my true power!..."

Magma took out a fire flower and consumed it. Her appearance glowed as her suit took on a reddish hue. Her ponytail grew larger like a burning flame on a pyre. She jumped high into the air, flames bursting from the soles of her feet. She came down hard, striking the ground and causing a massive explosion. The earth shook, cracks racing across it. The trio felt the shake as Magma charged at full force. She got ahold of Rabbid Peach and slammed her into Junior and Rabbid Peachette, knocking Junior's clown car into a another chamber. The chamber had numerous catwalks with a drop below.

"What the heck...?" Junior said, bewildered.

"Take a bite of this!" Magma growled at him, picking up a chunk of rock the size of a bowling ball and aimed.

Rabbid Peach tackled Magma to the ground as Bowser Junior went to locate his Clown Car, which had been lodged into collection of pipes. He raced down to the collection of pipes and began to look for his car.

"Hey! Where are you going?" Magma shouted at him. She let a screech, causing a shockwave to shake off Rabbid Peach.

"Who said I was through with you!?" Magma yelled as she raced towards Junior. In a nick of time, Rabbid Peachette dove in and blocked Magma from Junior.

"Not so fast!"  Rabbid Peachette said as she aimed two arm cannons at Magma's forehead. Magma acted fast and let out a geyser of fire which shot from below as it enveloped around Rabbid Peachette.

"Stay of my way!" Magma barked, continuing her path to Junior to which she got ahold.

"Hey! Get off of me, you Lava Queen subordinate!" Junior snapped, pushing away the Lava Kid who was holding him. Magma's grip was tough but Junior's arm squeezed out as he got his hammer out of the Clown Car. With the strength he had remaining, he tossed to Rabbid Peachette. The swirling fire was getting closer to her.

"I'm not giving you anything," Junior said, aiming for a blow to Magma's skull.

"I'll break you!" Magma roared. A sound of wheels ensued as Rabbid Peach scooped Rabbid Peachette from the hands of fire as she rode her sentry into Magma's path. As soon as Magma's head was turned, Junior sent a sharp kick towards her head, sending her into the sentry as the two Rabbids leapt off. The sentry exploded, causing Magma to hit a safety rail.

"NOW!" Rabbid Peach commanded as Rabbid Peachette jumped as high as she could. This was the finishing move, she grasped onto Junior's hammer and swung down on Magma. The blow knocked her of the catwalk and sent her falling. Magma plummeted down onto the industrial floor below, her suit of metal was wrecked in the process and her body was covered in injuries.

"N...no...I was supposed to make her proud..." Magma stammered weakly. Rabbid Peach stared at her.

"It's okay," Rabbid Peach said calmly. She placed a hand on Magma's shoulder.

"We're all just trying to do our job." She took out her cellphone as she made a conversation to someone. "I just put down another one of their servants. Yes, collect all of them. They're no longer a threat." she chatted. "Alright, you'll be here in no time. Thanks."

"Who was that?" asked Junior.

"Rabbid Recon Team, they're tasked with dealing with rogue rabbids. They've dealt with Blizzy and Sandy. I'm not gonna leave her here, she's a kid."

Junior wasn't happy of the fact Magma still assaulted him, though he didn't argue. He noticed Rabbid Peach’s exasperated expression.

"Are you okay?" he asked. 

"Yeah, I'm fine." 

"You're shaking." 

"I'll be okay." 

"...Suit yourself." 

"...Actually, I need a bathroom break."

CHAPTER 7 - Here’s The Plan

The castle was now in Lava Queen's possession. However she had known Rabbid Peach would've fled by the time. She ordered half of her army to hunt down Rabbid Peach before she could get help from Mario. The other half would begin to alter the castle into the fiery empress' new domain. Rabbid Peach hadn't thought that the more she swam, the more tired she got. She didn't know how far she had drifted away. She got onto dry land which was bordering Toad Town, whilst she was still soaking (much to her annoyance), she decided to check the place where Spawny was dropped off last; Toadette's house. As she ran through the streets, a large explosion was heard from the castle. The moat must've caught on fire, or possibly, the army had breached in. Either way, neither of these were good. There was a possibility the royal palace would suffer the same fate, especially with the way Lava Queen had been acting in between her threats. When she reached the house, she hammered on the door. No answer.

She looked through the window and saw Toadette, tied up with her mouth and eyes covered up. She wasn't one to just stand by and do nothing. She gathered a large rock and threw it as hard as she could at the window. "Sorry about the window!" she called as the rock shattered it completely. Toadette let out a startled muffle as she wriggled desperately. Rabbid Peach crawled inside, avoiding the shards of glass that would've cut her. She pulled away at the rope that Toadette was bound with.

"Come on, move! We gotta get you out of here!"

Toadette gasped for air as she looked at Rabbid Peach.

"W-where's Spawny?" she trembled with concern.

"I think Lava Queen got ahold of him, we gotta alert the others!"

Toadette nodded and followed her as they exited the house. To their shock, they saw an army of burning hot Rabbids in their direction. Rabbid Peach dove in to a bush to hide.

"Oh no, what has she done to them!?"

"Y-you can take on them right!?" asked Toadette.

"They're too many of them, I'll be surrounded!"

Rabbid Peach took the rock that was used for the window and threw it in the opposite direction of the army to divert their attention.

"Try to find cover and keep your head down!"

They heard the army charge forward in pursuit of the rock.

"That'll buy us some time!" said Rabbid Peach as they hid once more. "We need to come up with a plan really quick, what do you suggest we do?"

"I have an option..." Toadette suggested. "...but I'm not sure if it'll actually work."

"Lay it on me."

"We...need the help of the Bowser Junior!"

"Bowser Junior!? Seriously!?" Rabbid Peach stammered. "He was the first person to mess with Spawny and ended up setting of a chain of events which almost corrupted reality!"

"I know. But you mentioned that he has access to machinery like his Clown Car and mechs. Perhaps he could help us out."

"Well...I don't know. He seems to have a short fuse when it comes to dealing with Rabbids. I mean, we could try."

The trek to Bowser's Kingdom was going to be a tricky one indeed. The army was on high alert, they spilt up in directions searching for Rabbid Peach. Still, the pair of them set off through the woods with haste. A whistle stood at a lone stump.

"The Warp Whistle..." began Toadette. "We can get there faster."

"Can you play it?" asked Rabbid Peach. Toadette nodded as she put the whistle to her lips. She began to play it softly with it becoming gradually intenser until gust of wind blew in the air, forming a vortex and eventually a tornado.

"Hop in!" called Toadette as she grabbed Rabbid Peach's arm and jumped in the tornado.

The tornado took the pair out of the Mushroom Kingdom and into Bowser's Kingdom. The woods were replaced with a giant metal and stone facility. It had the appearance of a castle, but on a much larger scale. The pair landed in the yard, they looked around as they saw two Koopa Troopas hanging out. They didn't want to draw any attention from Bowser's army when they were dealing with one already. They needed to find Junior. 

"So...what do we do now?" asked Rabbid Peach.

"We go around the castle and find Junior's room."

"How do we get in?"

"If i remember, he sneaked out a lot from his dad's castle. Usually to attend concerts or whatever kid stuff. The entrance is hidden by some leaves."

Rabbid Peach walked around the castle, finding a pile of leaves. Unfortunately she didn't really come across anything nor did undestand why there would be much vegetation in Bowser's Kingdom anyway, it was so barren.

"Toadette, I don't thin-" Rabbid Peach was cut off as she plummeted down a hole.

"Rabbid Peach!! A-are you okay!?" Toadette panicked, rushing to where Rabbid Peach fell.

"Ugh...AHHHH! I'm not okay! I'm feeling sharp pains in my body!"

"That's from my shell!" snapped a voice. It was Bowser Junior, who was underneath Rabbid Peach, he had broken her fall. Unsurprisingly, he wasn't eager to see them.

"Why are you here!?" he demanded. "You tryin' to get me busted for a SECOND time!?"

"No! We need you to help save Peach's Castle! Lava Queen has Spawny in her possession and she is taking over it!"

"I'm sorry...What!?" stuttered Bowser Junior. He raised his hands and shook his head rapidly in denial. "Nope nope nope! Spawny already caused my dad issues! I'm not laying anymore claws on him."

"Think about it!" Toadette begged. "If she gains enough power, she could form another MegaBug and harm reality in the process! That means the end of all kingdoms!"

Bowser Junior scowled, he wasn't used to helping allies of Mario. But knowing another bug could harm his dad again...

"Fine. I'll help. But only because you did to me that one time..." he muttered.

"You won't regret this Bowser Junior!" cheered Toadette.

"Yeah, yeah! We ain't gotta lotta time! This Lava Queen is using Spawny's power to fuel her kingdom."

"We’ll have to travel to Lava Pit to reach it.” Rabbid Peach suggested.

“Great idea, Rabbid Peach.” “Really, Junior?”

“Yeah...to get our butts fried! We need preparation, duh!” Bowser Junior scorned.

“And Spawny is a valued asset for Lava Queen, so where he’s being kept is where the security will be intense!” added Toadette as Bowser Junior nodded.

"Got it in one. So, how do we get in there?" "We use the Warp Whistle," said Toadette.

"We need power ups, I know where my dad's emergency item boxes are."

"Good. Go get'em."

Bowser Junior ran out of the castle to his clown car. He flew to the warehouses nearby and looked inside. As he shuffled through boxes gathered on metal shelves, his eyes widened. He chucked a series of ice flowers, tanooki leaves and boomerangs near the two girls. And lastly, he passed a special crown.  It was a glowing silver circlet, decorated with bunny ears.

"Why is that?" asked Rabbid Peach.

"It's a special Super Crown. It was struck by the power of the Megabug when it roamed the kingdom. I believe it holds some form of power." Junior explained.

Toadette's eyes widened. This Super Crown was her type of power up. 

"The three of us alone ain't gonna cut it. We need to gather the Koopa army and send in the Airship. We'll signal where it'll land, which the army will create a diversion, leading the Lava's Queen's home security to them. We'll need the stealthiest members to scope out the place so we don't end up. When we find the chamber...BOOM! The Lava Queen's source of power is disconnected!"

The plan was quite complex with no guarantee of success, but Rabbid Peach was determined to gain back the kingdom from Lava Queen's grasp. 

"Alright, get the army. We're taking back Spawny."

Bowser Junior drove back to the castle where his army was located, and started to assemble them. An hour later, the army was ready with Junior rushing back with a clipboard. 

"Rollcall!" he ordered as the army stood in line.   "Does Bowser know you're taking the army and Airship with you?" Rabbid Peach asked.

Bowser Junior shook his head.

"No, unfortunately. Hopefully, he'll know I'm doing this for the greater good. I'm about to aid in the counter attack of a conquest here, so he oughta be proud and grateful!"

After the army was organized, the trio got onto the Airship as it began taking off half an hour later. It flew through the sky, and into the Lava Pit. They landed near a platform made of hardened yet freshly made basalt, while it was hot, it was not enough to induce burns. Cannons were dragged out from the Airship's doors and were carried by Paratroopas and Paragoombas. 

"Scatter them! Let Hot Stuff know we're comin' from all directions!" Junior called.

"Yes sir!" they shouted as they jumped off the ship.

They landed silently on the hard basalt stones, which made some clatter. Rabbid Peach's eyes widened. A squad of Ninjis rushed out, the lead carried a map and pointed to the direction where the Lava Queen's base of operations were. 

"They better know what they're doing." said Rabbid Peach.

"Trust me, you don't underestimate 'em." Junior affirmed.

Half of the ninji squad rushed out, both nodding and pointing, as if they were saying the coast appeared to be clear.

"That's our cue, move." said Rabbid Peach.

The trio ran past the squads of Paragoombas who were also heading towards the same location. As they got in the factory, they felt like they were in a hot boiler room. Water could evaporate here in seconds. The hallways were eerily empty, which contradicted Rabbid Peach's expections of the factory being noisy. A faint gust of wind blew across their faces as Rabbid Peach and Toadette armed themselves with arm cannons and Junior equipped a hammer resembling a paintbrush. They were being watched...

CHAPTER 6 - Trailing Behind

After making sure they didn't leave anyone behind in Sherbet Desert, Mario and the crew sat in a nearby unused boat that was floating to a river connected to Spooky Trails. During the boat ride, Peach had the most concern, she wanted to know about Spawny's safety. As soon as they located everyone at the haunted area, they would make haste back to the kingdom as soon as possible. The boat carrying the team later drifted into foggy mist, a signal that they were close to Spooky Trails. They used the boat to reach land, but soon all of them were left on foot.

Mario remembered Spooky Trails, where they had to obtain two Relics of Goodness and open the Moon Gate. He didn't know where the Phantom was, as during their last battle, he had disappeared shortly after the team had left. The group searched around, through thorny brambles and vines.

There was the sound of light moaning, which Yoshi suspected was near the bogs. As they made their way to the murky green pools, Rabbid Luigi panicked, pointing at something. Luigi's green cap floating in bog water. The moans were louder as something energed from the bog, a humanoid covered in green algae and slime burst out with a muffled voice!

"Swamp Monster!" screamed Rabbid Luigi as he scrambled away from the edge of the bog. The creature began to rush towards heroes before Yoshi grabbed a bucket of water, splashing it in the process. As soon as the algae came off, it wasn't a monster. It was only Luigi. Covered in mud and water, he looked quite dazed and confused.

"Oh, sorry, Luigi."

Luigi groaned as he reached for his cap in the water. As soon as he put in on, he was drenched with another bucket of water.

"You needed another rinse off." remarked Yoshi again.

"Hey bro, do you know where Beep-O and others are?" asked Mario.

"I did remember hearing Beep-O going to find Rabbid Yoshi, but I'm don't think he's returned yet." muttered Luigi.

"We'll check the stage where we last fought Phantom." suggested Mario. "It's not far from here."

Though the team had to climb up hard steps and squeeze through narrow gaps. Eventually, they reached the stage, where there was no Beep-O. He was most likely somewhere in Spooky Trails.  

They heard a faint cry and as soon as they saw the clocktower, they saw Beep-O and Rabbid Yoshi, hanging from the clocktower's hands. The pair were desperately trying to get down, but the hands were moving and they were too high to reach.

"Hang on, you two!" Mario called out, running towards the tower.

"Quickly, we need to save them before it's too late!"

The heroes ran as fast as they could, with Mario being the first to reach the clocktower. Luigi followed as Mario prepared to give him a boost, as the green plumber was propelled to catch Beep-O and Rabbid Yoshi in the process. As soon as the trio were on the ground, the hands of the clocktower began to turn.

"Thank you, Mario!" shouted Beep-O. "We owe you this one!"

"Don't worry about it, Beep-O!" Mario replied. "What about Rabbid Peach? Is she okay?"

"I'm not sure! I didn't see her in Spooky Trails!" Beep-O replied back.

"Maybe she isn't here." suggested Luigi. "What if she could still be at Peach's castle?"

Mario paused and thought for a second. Was Rabbid Peach the only one to not be sent anywhere? Could she still be at the castle?

"I think we've covered everyone in Spooky Trails," Peach confirmed. "We must return to the castle."

"Okay, we'll go back and search for her!"

The heroes continued on to the castle.Out of nowhere, a cluster of large thorny vines burst out of the ceramic floors, and wrapped around all the exits of Spooky Trails. Nothing they did could cut the vines, as the only way to get out was to burn them.

"This is not what I expected." complained Mario. Beep-O inspected the vines. They were too thick to be cut and too packed to squeeze through.

"How did this happen?"

"Whoever did this must've been Lava Queen!" Rabbid Luigi suggested. "Sandy mentioned that she gave her and Blizzy enhanced powers. She must behind the cannon as well!"

"Lava Queen? Rabbid Peach can take on her." remarked Rabbid Mario. "No matter what, she'll always beat her.

"Everybody, stand back." warned Mario as his gloves glowed reddish orange. "I'm about to burn the vines."

Peach's Castle had been desolate for quite a while. Or so it seemed. The last thing Rabbid Peach remembered was being launched upwards before hitting back on the castle grounds with a loud thud. She rubbed her head as she groaned from the recovery of being unconcious. Looking around, her friends were nowhere to be seen. She did see a crowd begin to approach the castle gates. 

At first, she thought Mario and the others were here. What she expected was the complete opposite. A large chariot was charging at the castle, pulled by two gold Chain Chomps. Lava Queen sat in the carriage with an evil smile on her face. Behind her, was a swarming army of Lava Ziggies, Hoppers, Smashers, Supporters, Bucklers, Valkyries and fused Toad minions.

"Hello, Rabbid Peach!" Lava Queen called out. "This castle is now under new management!"

"New managemen-" stuttered Rabbid Peach in disbelief. "What are you on about!?"

"I'm taking over! I have plans for a future for my lava brethren!"

"Oh, no you're not! Not if I or Mario have anything to say 'bout it!"

"Ha! Mario and your friends are long way from home! Which will be mine soon! After all, you can't stop all of us." taunted Lava Queen.

Rabbid Peach froze. True, she might struggle having the power of a hundred rabbids, but she could still put up a fight.

"Please, I've fought Rabbid Sharks, tamed an aggressive Rabbid Ape and took down a reality distorting bug with my team. You shouldn't underestimate me."

"Well then..."

Lava Queen whistled as the army charged ahead, rushing through the castle grounds. Rabbid Peach rushed as she narrowly scaled the walls and dove into the moat, hoping the army wouldn't see or catch her. As soon as the army stormed the castle, the only stop Rabbid Peach could make is Toad Town, perhaps she could take refuge there.

"I'll get Mario's help if it's the last thing I do!" she thought as she swam through the moat.

CHAPTER 5 - Burn Up The Beat

Sandy was lying in the frigid cold lake of water, her biggest weakness. Tips of her body turned blue as crystals of ice encased her body, rendering her incapacitated. Mario and heroes rushed down.

"W-Water..." she cried. "It's so COLD!"

"Alright, Sandy." Mario sternly ordered. "How and why did you and Blizzy attack us with storms?"

"I..." she got out, before beginning to shiver and coughing up some water. "We...were given powers...from Lava Queen. She granted us them with Spawny's powers."

Mario's eyes widened.

"She's behind this?"

Sandy did her best to nod.

"Yeah."

"B-but, S-Spawny's supposed to be a Toadette's place!" Peach stammered. "How could Lava Queen get a hold of him!?"

Sandy started to freeze up.

"I don't know...Please get me out!"

The heroes looked hesitant on helping her.

"I won't hurt you! I can't even use my powers anymore from the water!"

Mario and Rabbid Mario grabbed her arms and pulled her out which Peach grabbed a blanket. Sandy was frozen from the waist down.

"Wow, frozen solid."

"What should we do with her?"

"She stays here whilst the Rabbid Recon team locate her sister. They'll be both taken for questioning." suggested Peach. "We'll leave a good amount of blankets on her so she doesn't freeze to death. I'll alert the Recon of her presence. Right now, we need to find the other four, Rabbid Peach, Luigi, Rabbid Yoshi and Beep-O.”

"Wait, are we sure they're in Sherbet Desert?" Rabbid Luigi asked. "I remember the cannon didn't fire all of us in the first shot."

"Now that you mention it, the cannon tilted on the east, after I was launched." Mario agreed. "We were all sent to different places."

"I think they could be in Spooky Trails, that place is perpendicular to Sherbet Desert!" suggested Peach.

"How are going to get there?" asked Yoshi.

"There's a river that does connect the desert to Spooky Trails, if we can find a boat, we could ride the journey there." Mario said.

"Let's find one! I saw some drifting past on the river!" exclaimed Rabbid Mario.

"Be careful not to fall in." warned Yoshi.

Mario's job was done in Sherbet Desert. Now, the heroes needed to move onto Spooky Trails.

Meanwhile, in Lava Queen's domain, she was looking admirably at Spawny, both terrified and confused on what was going on.

"Progress is booming." she laughed. "Never thought I'd experience this! My kingdom is one step closer!"

Spawny was trapped in a container which was connected to a device along with other containers of lava and metal.

"It's time for Lava Pit, to continue operations!" she announced. "We must bring the Rabbids here!"

"What's the plan, your Highness?" inquired Magma.

"We set up a decieving dance party, no Rabbid can turn down an invite like that. Next, you and the Lava Kids must activate this tape to disorient them." Lava Queen grabbed a cassette and handed it to Magma. "Bwario and Bwaluigi will sort out the Rabbids and bring them to the decommissioned factory where we will recreate the army that Bowser Junior had!"

Magma saluted and ran to order the Lava Kids. As she did, Lava Queen turned to Spawny.

"You know, I had devotion once. I wanted to experience having the dream of ruling an empire, just like Peach. But sadly, not everyone gets that. And to get royalty, you must deal with the royalty."

Spawny rapidly shook his head, he knew he wasn't going along with Lava Queen's plans. And quite frankly, Lava Queen knew he wasn't going to obey easily.

"I see, if you can't follow my plans..." Lava Queen sneered. "I'll make you."

Lava Queen snap her fingers and a large metal hand appeared to grab Spawny, who was helpless to defend himself.

"I think you'll need to become accustomed to me, and what better option is to brainwash you?" she smirked as Spawny was snatched away to which she laid back on her throne.

"This will run smoothly."

Bwario and Bwaluigi were in their quarters, waiting for their given tasks.

"I hope we're getting paid an awful lot for this." Bwario said, eating a whole garlic. "Installin' that cannon wasn't cheap."

"Hold it, I'm getting a task from the boss..." Bwaluigi noted as he looked at the computer screen flashing above them.  "Begin, operations in the foundry?"

"Well then, the Lava Kids are doin' their part, we might as well do ours."

Lava Queen took a look at Peach's diary, it was time to uncover the castle's secrets. She opened the book and began to read. As she did, she had a devillish look on her face.

"This castle ROCKS!" she remarked. "We are so raiding it."

Meanwhile in Toad Town, flyers were set up through the streets. Each of them read;

"Dance Party at the LAVA PIT! Burning Up The Beat!"

The Lava Kids hid in a hedge as the Rabbids and Toads gathered around, taking a flyer each. They looked pretty interested.

"It's working! They're gonna be coming to Lava Pit!" Sizzle cheered.

"SHHH! Don't blow our cover!" hissed Hibachi.

As soon as word spread of the party, a crowd of Toads and Rabbids made their way out of Toad Town and on their journey to the pit. With that, the streets of the Peach's castle were deserted.

"That's done it." remarked Magma. "Let's go, team! We gotta alert the queen!"

The gang raced to the castle. By the time they arrived, the castle was fully alert and there were patrolling Toads and Rabbids everywhere.

"How are we gonna get them out?" asked Sizzle.

"We'll come back. It's too soon for this phase." responded Magma.

The gang went back to the factory and sure enough, the Lava Kids were already hard at work. A large dance hall was set up with many of the decorations in Lava Queen's likeness. A large group of Rabbids were dancing to a very loud beat, while the Lava Kids were standing around watching them with huge grins on their faces.

"Well, they're dancing." remarked Magma.

Through the sea of dancers came Bwaluigi, carrying a box of earmuffs. He made his way through the crowd with ease and gave each Lava Kid a pair of earmuffs.

"Next song is the brainwashing tape. Do not take them off." he ordered. He took a look at his watch.

"It's time."

The next song played, with a distorted and eerie tone, with uneven rhythms and harsh noise. The Rabbids and Toads dancing to the music felt sick and even looked like they were all hypnotized. Bwario walked in with a pair of earmuffs on, he carrying a boom box playing the tape.

"Obey me, Bwario! I am your master!" Bwario shouted. "Follow me to the foundry, it's time for your initiation!"

The Rabbids and Toads followed Bwario like mindless sheep, into the entrance of a factory where they were dumped onto a conveyor belt. Bwaluigi was in another room, through a viewing window, he activated a lever.

"Operations begin now!" he shouted as the lever was pulled and the door shut.

CHAPTER 4 - Freezer Burn

Climbing Sherbet Mountain was harder than taking the cannon. Not only was the path steep, but also slippery. The higher Mario and Rabbid Luigi went, the colder the atmosphere became. Mario stopped for a moment as he was pondering something. Rabbid Luigi took notice and went to see what was on Mario's mind.

"You know Sandy, that Rabbid we fought along with Blizzy right?" asked Mario. "She was nowhere near this powerful last time. How did she manage to summon sandstorms this strong?"

"Good question. Even I’m shocked on her new abilities."

"Let's just keep looking for our team, that's the most important thing right now."

The two kept scaling the mountain and eventually they spotted something in a block of ice. It was Rabbid Mario. Oh well, not the first time he was frozen.

"We better thaw him out." suggested Mario.

"Allow me." offered Rabbid Luigi, activating his Bworb as he launched a Burn shot to melt the ice. The ice block began to melt and then crack before shattering and releasing Rabbid Mario.

"Ugh, thanks." Rabbid Mario sighed with relief.  "What a relief. I thought I was a gonna be trapped in cyrostasis and wait for the future to come."

"How did you become frozen?" asked Mario.

"It's a blur, all I remember is hittin' the mountain and moments later, I walk into a blizzard and become sent into a white-out." explained Rabbid Mario.

"T-There's a blizzard at the peak?" stammered Rabbid Luigi. "How intense?"

"Oh, I couldn't see a thing! I just rushed through it. I only saw white...and a silhouette of somethin'."

Mario looked grim, he had a bad feeling that this was unusual for Sherbet Mountain. Granted, it snowed constantly, but the summit was still clear to see. This was getting weirder by the moment. The three resumed their climbing and a few moments later, they reached the summit of the mountain.

"Holy..." started Mario.

The entire peak was covered by snow. And the sounds of howling whooshed around. The air became colder and Mario could begin to see his breath. It was like an arctic breeze. He was starting to feel unwell.

"Do you know where the others are?" he asked Rabbid Mario.

"Nope, I was alone here." explained Rabbid Mario. "I already looked around."

"We have to find them!" cried Mario.

As the three searched for their team mates, the blizzard grew worse. Rabbid Luigi was shivering as Mario and his Rabbid counterpart held onto their caps. At this point, they were happy to see any other figure in the snow.

"G-G-Guys!" called out a terrified voice. "Help! I'm stuck!"

"That voice..." stammered Mario.

"I know that voice!" cried Rabbid Luigi. "And it sounds like it's getting closer!"

Mario and the two Rabbids ran towards the source of the voice.

It was Yoshi, his tongue was frozen and tied to a giant popsicle. He was struggling to get free, but he was getting weaker by the second.

"I can't free my tongue!"

"I'll try to thaw it out!" shouted Mario. He looked around, finding a source of warmth.

He placed his glove on Yoshi's tongue as heat was generated. Eventually, Yoshi's tongue began to loosen from the giant popsicle.

"Finally! I'm free!" cried Yoshi.

"Yoshi, why was your tongue on that popsicle?" asked Rabbid Luigi.

"It was Blizzy who did this to me!"

"Tha...-That's the same Rabbid who I believe, froze me!" Rabbid Mario grumbled. "Let's get out of here!"

Before the four could find the exit, the blizzard grew stronger. Large blocks of ice fell from the sky. It was then, a large sheet of ice blocked the way. They were trapped.

"I can... I can see something!" cried out Yoshi.

A flurried shadow was cast in the white void of the blizzard. Out of it, came three frozen orbs.

"Duck!"

As the four dropped to the ground, the three frozen orbs shattered into a million pieces and rained down upon them.

"Everyone, grab hands, and follow me!" commanded Mario as they pushed through the summit. It was them or the blizzard. A mad chase ensued with the four rushing through faded images of frozen treats, giant ice trays and igloos before reaching a stop. There they were, the site where they fought the Icicle Golem. A large freezer stood in the middle, behind the battleground.

"Nowhere to run." echoed a serene yet ominous voice.

The four looked to see Blizzy, a Rabbid embedded in a flurry covered in ice caps. The other Rabbid that the heroes had previously fought alongside Sandy.

"We must capture you and subdue you." Blizzy spoke. "This will be simple, for you are hopeless."

"If we can beat you once, we can beat you again!" Rabbid Luigi retorted.

"Rabbid, that won't be necessary." chimed Blizzy.  "Sandy! We must begin!"

Sandy launched up and flew over the heroes, dropping the boulders that were used to block her from Mario.

"Did ya’ miss me?" she smiled as she approached the heroes.

 Rabbid Mario readied his Boomshot, preparing to shoot the hot and cold creeps down. Yoshi and Rabbid Luigi armed themselves with their Rocket launchers.

"You two go after Blizzy, we'll handle Sandy!" Mario called.

The two heroes split up, with one following Blizzy and the other following Sandy. The battle on the mountain’s peak had ensued. Blizzy used her freezing powers to rain ice and snow down upon the heroes who were struggling to fight her in the blizzard. Even when she was covered in ice, she was powerful. Yoshi and Rabbid Luigi launched their rockets back. The explosions created temporary smokescreens, but the real threat came from the bursts of flame, which set alight the icicles and snow. Sandy fought like a warrior. Her strength was her advantage, especially since she could now throw punches made of sand.

"I don't understand!" Mario covered. "Blizzy and Sandy never had this type of power before!"

"They must've been given a power boost!" suggested Rabbid Mario.

"That must be it!" agreed Mario. "We must investigate!"

Sandy launched a cluster of cactus grenades spread out like a grapeshot. The cacti burst into pieces, and embedded in them were various small spikes. Upon hitting the ground, an explosion of cacti covered the field and launched out in multiple directions.

Mario jumped, flipped and spun around the explosions and delivered a sharp kick into Sandy. She was launched off into the freezer. The impact from the freezer and Sandy's body caused the freezer to tilt.  Blizzy caught notice and launched an ice orb at Rabbid Mario, freezing him once again in an ice block before sending a sharp burst of wind to launch it into the freezer.

"Deal with him while you still can!" she called out to Sandy.

The heroes raced towards the freezer. The freezer was now leaning at an angle, and was about to fall off its foundation.

"Rabbid Mario! I'm coming!" shouted Mario, charging at the freezer and diving in.

"Mario! Don't!"

Too late. The second Mario dived in to get Rabbid Mario out, the freezer had tipped over. It started to slide down the mountain like an out of control toboggan. Mario ran left and right hit the sides of the freezer, avoiding anything that would crash it. He was only given a small window of sight from the oncoming obstacles that the freezer could it.

Luckily, the freezer made a stop at a cliff. Down below, a faint image of a large pool of water. Cold as the Artic and enough to give hypothermia in seconds. Mario climbed the shelves to free Rabbid Mario out of the freezer.

"Give it up, Sandy." ordered Mario. "You're outnumbered."

"Never!" she cried. "I'm not giving up!" She burst out of the freezer and summoned a twister of sand, coiling it around the two Marios. Her eyes grew with anger, and she extended her hand towards Rabbid Mario once again.

"I could've had you!" she shouted, the tornado growing around him and lifting him into the air. "Me and Blizzy could've left you as frozen desserts at the peak of the mountain!"

She extended her other hand towards Mario. She then gave the tornado the slightest gust forwards, and it lifted both Mario and Rabbid Mario into the air. Unbeknownst to Sandy, using her powers was causing the ice around her to melt as her body heated up from a combination of hot energy and anger. Mario took notice of the puddles forming from the melted snow around Sandy and had an idea. It had to be quick.

Sandy readied up her grenades again as she prepared to launch them. Whilst Mario and Rabbid Mario were suspended in the air, he kicked Rabbid Mario towards the grenades. Rabbid Mario then grabbed his Melee Hammer and swung at them, knocking them straight into Sandy as well. The force of the explosions also deflected the sandstorm onto Sandy, which launched her into the air and sent her falling into the lake below.

"How do you like that?!" laughed Mario. "That's how you do it!"

Rabbid Mario dusted himself off.

"Wait! What about Blizzy?" asked Rabbid Mario.

"We're a long way from the mountain!" cried Mario. "We'll have to the reclimb it."

"Actually, there will be no need." came a voice.

As Mario and Rabbid Mario looked up, they saw Peach floating down, with Yoshi and Rabbid Luigi latching onto her parasol.

"Peach!" cried Mario. "Are you all right?"

"Yes, I'm fine!" she answered.

"How did you defeat Blizzy?" asked Rabbid Mario.

"I managed to distract her by using my Heart Blossom powers to make her drowsy. That caused her to lose focus and give us the opportunity to turn the tides."

"I see... so that's how you defeated her."

"She got buried by her own avalanche." finished Yoshi.

Peach looked at the freezer and gasped. She wasn't expected it to be hanging at a cliff.

"Oh dear..." she said.

"We can't leave this freezer here. It has to go back to it's place." Mario sighed.

"But it's a big hulking fridge!" exclaimed Yoshi.

"I can get a Mega Mushroom and be big enough to carry it back." promised Mario.

"Good luck finding one."

"But first, we have to find out why Blizzy and Sandy were attacking us with new powers."

"Can we reach Sandy? I don't think Blizzy can be accessed at the moment." asked Yoshi.

"Yeah, but she's not exactly an ally. Will she co-operate with us?" asked Rabbid Mario back.

"We beat her, I think she might as well come clean." responded Mario.

CHAPTER 3 - Dust Desserts

Lava Queen turned to Bwario and Bwaluigi.

"Any info on where Mario could be?" she asked.

The two henchmen checked the drone's footage that recorded the moment the cannon malfunctioned.

"Yessir, accordin' to the direction, they went North West." responded Bwario.

"Sherbet Desert..." Lava Queen's eyes narrowed. "I know the Rabbids to keep him busy."

Meanwhile at Toadette's house in Toad Town. She and Spawny were hard at work making a garden.

"This'll give me the chance to thank you!" Toadette said, smiling. "This is amazing! Even I couldn't have done this!"

Spawny happily beamed, they did put an effort into the garden. It was a calm activity, which unless involved Piranha Plants, didn't provide any stress to the bunny. The colours were bright, and the patterns where fun. It was like a cute little paradise. There was a sharp knock at the door. Toadette heard it and went to it. A large towering figure in a trenchcoat with a gas mask stood there.

"Hello...'' They spoke. "You must be Toadette."

"Yes, who are you?"

"Let's just say I'm...an acquaintance of Princess Peach."

"Oh, you know her?"

"Indeed, I'm here to explain to you that she along with others have gone missing."

"W-what?"

"We would like to know if a Rabbid named Spawny is okay. Just in case the Princess concerns him."

Toadette's eyes widened.

"Y-yes! I'm sure he's fine! He always works so hard to please her!"

"I see..." the figure in the gas mask nodded.

Toadette took the figure to Spawny who was busy planting carrots.

"Spawny, I have a visitor who wants to know about you."

"Ah, this is Spawny."

Toadette nodded as Spawny's smile began to shrink as he saw the figure.

"Now Toadette." began the figure. "It's time to tell the truth."

"What truth?"

"This is all a ploy done by us."

The figure writhed around before it's trench coat burst open, revealing that it was a trick by the Lava Kids. Magma, who played the head of the figure, threw a sachet of sleeping powder at Toadette, causing the poor Toad to fall to the ground. After she was done, she pointed at Spawny.

"Get him!"

Sizzle charged at Spawny who tried to escape from the Lava Kid's clutches.

Spawny, now terrified, fired a blast of SupaMerge energy at Sizzle, who in narrowly dodged.

"Woah, he's a fiesty one!"

The rest of the Lava Kids went after Spawny, which ended with Magma grabbing him by his ears.

"Mission accomplished!" she victoriously remarked, staring evilly at Spawny.

"Hey, what do we do about the Toad girl?" asked Hibachi, putting his foot at Toadette's head.

"Tie her up. We can't let her roam free." ordered Magma. "Our job is done here. We report back to the queen." The Lava Kids left Toadette's house with Spawny now contained in a jar.

Later, in Mario and Rabbid Luigi's case, they had been sliding down dune after dune in the Sherbet Desert. The mountain was up ahead but no path to climb it. The only option that Mario had was to go around it and climb the path it had from there. A redeeming thing about Sherbet Desert was whenever it felt hot, Mario could shift to the other side to cool down. Though Beep-O had listed other reasons on why it was his place of choice over the other 3 areas. One of them being that it had unique and strange things to see.

Mario could see that, some of the formations in the desert where surprisingly well shaped.  A path also came into view alongside it. It might be a good idea to follow it and see where it led.

"Let's follow it." Mario said to Rabbid Luigi.

Before they could set foot, they felt two gusts of wind. Behind them was a sandstorm which was enveloping nearby cacti.

"We need to get out of here." said Mario.

As the storm got worse, the path began to fade.

"We need to find shelter!" shouted Rabbid Luigi, grabbing onto Mario.

"I can't see!" cried Mario, putting his hands up to shield his eyes.

Rabbid Luigi grabbed a nearby mushroom to block the sand out. They found a crevice in the side the mountain and took cover. When their vision cleared, they saw a figure standing over them. A rabbid embedded in a tornado encased with rocks and cacti. It was Sandy, one of the two Rabbids that had previously attacked Mario and friends during the first trip in Sherbet Desert.

"Sandy!? I thought we took care of her and Blizzy last time we were here!" said Mario.

"I guess they're back for revenge!" Rabbid Luigi cried.

"I've been waiting for this moment since we last fought. The first time was weak, this time, it'll be more fun." Sandy said. She lit up a cactus grenade and lobbed it at the two. It exploded right next to them, rocking their heads back.

"Agh! That stings!" cried Mario.

"Me too! My ears are ringing!" cried Rabbid Luigi.

"Quick, get our weapons!"

Mario rushed to get out his Blaster whilst Rabbid Luigi got out his Bworb.

"I don't think so!" called out Sandy. She summoned a sandstorm and pushed it towards them. The winds began to pick up, blowing the two back until they were close to the edge of a crevasse.

"I can't fight a sandstorm!" cried out Mario.

"Grab my hand!" shouted Rabbid Luigi. "We need to stick together!"

The two did their best to try and grab on to each other's hands but the strong wind was being thrown around, trying its best to pull them away. The storm was also beginning to engulf the crevasse. Mario felt the sandstorm pick him up with Rabbid Luigi pulling him back. He was almost to the edge of the crevasse with the ledge right below him.

"Come on!" he shouted, as loud as he could.

Then, an idea came to Rabbid Luigi's head. He fired a shot at Mario, which the force of the shot pushed him away from edge and onto safer land.

"Yes! I knew the Push effect would save us!" he cheered. However his celebration was cut short upon seeing a faint image of Sandy looming above them.

"Ha ha ha! Stop pretending to be brave, Rabbid Luigi!" she laughed. She summoned another cacti grenade and threw it right at them. Mario grabbed his hammer and swung back, deflecting the grenade at Sandy, stunning her in the process.

The sandstorm began to clear up, giving Mario and Rabbid Luigi the opportunity to escape. They ran a far distance from Sandy who was struggling to gain back momentum before Mario turned back. The two had run past some boulders that were cleared from the path and wedged into another crevice. Mario aimed his blaster at the boulders, knocking them onto the path and causing a blockage.

"That will keep her busy." He panted, turning back to the path. "We need to keep going."

The rocky path continued for a long time, with Mario catching glimpses of that sandy wasteland they had passed near to. They would see cacti growing out of the ground and then a glimpse of the sandy wasteland itself.

Since they were unable to find the cannon that would normally give them a good shortcut to the summit of Sherbet Mountain, they knew they were going to have to scale it.

"Don't worry, I'm sure we'll find a way up." Said Mario.

"You sure about that?" replied Rabbid Luigi.

"I'm positive."

CHAPTER 2 - Launch Pity

"I didn't plant a cannon at the castle!" barked Bowser, in his irate yet tired voice. "Who's saying I did!?"

"We're just checking who could be suspicious." answered Mario.

"I'm just tryin' to get away from those bunnies. I'm already tuckered out from dealing with the past chaos." Bowser groaned. "Leave me out your investigation."

"OK then," said Mario, as he and the rest left the room.

Bowser’s voice echoed throughout the halls as he continued to grumble. Mario just shook his head and shrugged it off. They needed to open up the cannon. Mario and the crew rushed to the outside of Peach's castle where Beep-O was waiting. As they gathered, Luigi tripped over something.

"What the heck is this?" he said, as he peered over to see a metal hatch painted in green camo.

"That's the cannon that went off." answered Beep-O.

"We need to open this up." said Mario.

"There isn't a way to open it." Beep-O told Mario. "The hatch is sealed shut, so I believe it was remote activated to open."

"Who would do such a thing?" asked Mario.

"We may never know." Beep-O responded. "It could have been an accident, or-"

Peach rushed outside in panicked fashion.

"My room! It's been ransacked!" she cried.

"Let's check out the rest of the castle." said Mario. "Something isn't right about all this."

"I agree." Beep-O said.

Mario checked Peach's bedroom. Drawers were open, possessions strewn over the floor and the cupboards were empty.

"My diary is also gone!" Peach cried.

"Don't worry, Peach. The second we get the cannon open, we'll find out where it leads to." consoled Mario. It didn't take long to check other rooms. They were all trashed, and there weren't any secret passages. Rabbid Peach and Rabbid Luigi looked around, they smelt something but couldn't see anything. Eventually, there was a big clue. A burnt footprint.

"Guys! I found something!" Rabbid Peach called out. Mario and Luigi ran to her.

"There's evidence someone was sneaking around during the party!" she said, pointing at the footprints.

"These look like they were made by Rabbids." said Beep-O, who found the tracks to be familiar.

"Those must have been one crazy Rabbids!" said Luigi. "Seems those things don't just start fires, they can control them!"

"Fires?" Mario wondered. "If I'm correct, it couldn't have been Pirabbid Plant. But what if the Rabbids who did this came from the Lava Pit?"

"Let's go check it out now!" Beep-O exclaimed.

There wasn't much time to lose. With the cannon still not accessible, they decided to go through with the other cannon which they usually took to Lava Pit. Mario and the others packed themselves into the cannon as it began to activate. However...

"Something's wrong!" Beep-O cried. "The cannon is malfunctioning!"

The cannon didn't operate as the others. It began to jerk and rotate and shake around. Rabbid Luigi felt queasy as he was tossed around in the barrel of the cannon, even colliding with Rabbid Mario and Yoshi.

"What's going on!?" Mario cried. "It shouldn't be doing this!"

The cannon let out a bang, but it aimed away from the direction of the Lava Pit.

"Wait no! That way! THAT WAY!" Mario panickly shouted as he along with the others were shot out opposite to where Lava Pit was. The heroes were flung into sky and disappeared.

Unfortunately for them, Lava Queen had been watching them through a drone camera that was sent to spy on them. She cackled victoriously as she lied back on her throne located in a chamber in the caverns.

"BWAHAHAHA!" she laughed. "I've got to admit. Bwaluigi sure knows how operate as well as sabotage a cannon!"

Meanwhile, Mario, Beep-O and the others were flung across endless skies. After being flung to exhaustion, they eventually flew over a ravine that split up the direction of their destination. Mario was sent into thick sand, Rabbid Peach was last seen falling into a water stream and Luigi and Rabbid Yoshi disappeared over the horizon. Rabbid Mario, Yoshi and Peach were nowhere to be seen. Now, Mario saw Rabbid Luigi rush to him.

"Are you okay!?" he asked him.

"I'm okay." Mario winced in pain, as he pulled himself out of the sand. "How are Beep-O and that other one?"

"I don't know." Rabbid Luigi stated. As the two looked around, they realised they were in a desert. Then, it all came back.

"Sherbet Desert!" cried Mario. "I can seen the ice mountain from here as well as the Rabbid Pharoah over there." He peered over to the west where it was. He rapidly shook his head, no time for detours. Time to find the team.

"We need to find the rest of the team! It's not too late!"

Mario and Rabbid Luigi ran through the dunes of the desert, searching for Beep-O and the others.

Meanwhile at Lava Queen's lair, she had been awaiting for the Lava Kids' return. As soon as she heard about the heroes' disappearance, she got ready with a big plan.

"BWAHAHAHA! This will make for a wonderful distraction!" she cackled.

Indeed it would. The Lava Kids, along with Bwario and Bwaluigi entered the gates through the chamber.

"We got dirt on them." Bwario panted.

Lava Queen turned around and raised an eyebrow.

"Really?"

Bwario nodded, handing a stack of documents and a pink book to her.

"It's all we could get our hands on."

"Good. Thanks." Lava Queen took the information and the book, and pocketed the rest.

"Now then, we need to find a special Rabbid, by the name of Spawny."

Lava Queen made a look of concentration for a brief moment, as her eyes glowed. Then, she smiled.

"I know where he is. Last time I checked, he's with a Toad with pigtails."

"You mean the Toadette girl? You want us to kidnap him from her?" asked Magma.

"Of course! But remember the element of surprise." reminded Lava Queen. "Also remember, that hard work reaps big rewards! Now go to Toad Town, and find her house immediately!”

The Lava Kids each saluted as they rushed out and headed back to the Mushroom Kingdom for the second time.

CHAPTER 1 - Birthday Break-In

Meanwhile in the Mushroom Kingdom. Today was a special day, Toads and Rabbids gathered around and placed decorations around the castle. Some even sported party hats. One green toad in particularly had a large party hat on his head and a banner that read "Rabbid Invasion!" across his chest.

Today was birthday of the Rabbid Squad, consisting of Rabbid Mario, Rabbid Luigi, Rabbid Yoshi and of course, Rabbid Peach, who was excited more than ever. Mario and Luigi were in Toad Town, picking out gifts, Peach and Toad were helping out with the cake and Yoshi was helping with organizing the party. Yoshi didn't really get Rabbids, but he guessed he could explain it to the others. That is if he could find them. Rabbid Mario, Rabbid Luigi and Rabbid Yoshi gathered by the square, conversing. Rabbid Yoshi couldn't exactly speak but could nod and make expressions.

"So, we're good then?" Rabbid Mario asked. "All the toads are in place? It's really happening."

Rabbid Luigi nodded. "It's really happening."

"Right!"

"I bet it's gonna be a surprise fit for heroes."

Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Yoshi began to do a little happy dance.

"What surprise?" asked a curious, yet confused, Rabbid Peach. "What's going on?" She asked.

"The party is getting set up. We're not to enter the castle until it's ready."

"What are we waiting for you mean?"

"For the surprise to be ready."

"Ohhh! But I want to go see the decorations!"

"It will be fun. Trust me."

Rabbid Peach had an eager look on her face, she was looking forward to today. It had been long since their victorious battle against the Megabug. She beamed greatly as she saw the statue of her being covered in petals.

"I can't wait!"

"Alright," said Rabbid Mario, "It's time!"

All the toads began to exit the castle and enter the square. Four blue toads rushed and handed a blindfold to each of the Rabbids. They were then escorted by two Rabbids holding onto their hands. This was so that they couldn't see anything, ruin the surprise.

"Come on!" said one of the blue toads.

The group walked into the castle, they heard cheering and eventually music playing.

"I can't wait to find out what this is all about!" exclaimed Rabbid Peach.

They entered the throne room and heard the cheering getting louder and louder.

"On the count of three, you may take of your blindfolds!" announced one of the Toads.

As soon as the blindfolds were taken off, the four were suprised to find themselves in a room with a large cake surrounded by gifts and flowers.

"Happy Birthday to you!" sang the foursome in unison.

They began to sing again, followed by cheers and applause.

"And happy birthday, dear Rabbid Peach!"

Rabbid Peach's blue eyes expanded like a growing sea. Seeing Mario there, almost brought tears to her eyes. But she was sure she wasn't shedding a drop.

"Thank you all so much!" she said, her eyes shining. "This is an amazing surprise!"

Then, the group sang again and parted ways. The four toads left, leaving the Rabbids by themselves.

"So, what'd you think?" asked Mario.

"It's amazing!"

Mario walked up to Rabbid Peach with a box in his hands. "Here you are, birthday girl."

Rabbid Peach blushed.

"Thanks, but I already know what my gift is."

"Really? W-what is it?"

"You."

Mario looked quite flattered but expected that Rabbid Peach would say something like that. The girl idolized him.

"R-really?" he asked, unsure how to react.

Rabbid Peach nodded while giving him a big grin. Luigi and his Rabbid counterpart awkwardly smiled whilst Rabbid Mario just sighed.

"Well, we can't let the birthday girl enjoy her day without some fun right?" said Mario. "Let's start the party!"

He and his friends began to dance to some music that was playing. While the party was bustling, the Lava Kids made their move. This was a stealth mission, the plan was not to get caught.

Given their orders, they each had a camera on them and took a picture of the castle and any form of propaganda. The main issue was getting in the castle, as the gates were locked. Luckily, the plan was to get inside by scaling the walls using the Lava Kids' scaling abilities. It was risky but the reward was great.

One of the kids, Magma, leapt past the walls and landed in the Courtyard where the heroes were dancing. She snuck behind the stage where music was playing and signalled the others. They also jumped down, unnoticed by the heroes, who were too busy swooning over each other to notice anything else. A handful of the Lava Kids were tempted to dance along to the music but were forcibly ordered back to their mission by the rest of the team.

"Get a grip! You tryin' to get us busted!?" quietly snapped Magma as she berated her disobedient colleagues.

The team quickly set up their camera and waited for the arrival of their target. Peach and Mario were oblivious to any potential danger as they continued to dance along to the beat.

"Why ain't we just ambushing them?" asked Hibachi, a lava kid with a samurai helmet. "They haven't got their weapons."

"Because our mission is to just get pictures of the palace and obtain secrets of it," replied Magma.

"What secrets?" asked Sizzle, a Lava Kid with reddened skin and a bright orange Mohawk hairstyle.

"Diaries, journals, newpapers, income tax docu-. A-anything we don't know about the castle!" responded Magma. "The point is, we need the know about the enemies' next move."

"So we're just spying then?" asked Sizzle.

"Basically, but don't worry. We're not that sleazy."

With that, the team dispersed and hid around the castle. Eventually, after about ten minutes, the four Rabbids exited the castle. They waved at the heroes as they left, whilst singing an off-key version of Happy Birthday. During that time, the Lava Kids slinked through the castle, checking the hallways undetected and even the moat of the castle. They eventually found Peach's secret drawer and her bedroom which contained a diary. They also found a small dress-up box with a picture of herself as a kid. Other than that, the second they looted the drawers, they took off.

"Well, that was somewhat eventful. The Lava Kids found the secret drawer but other than that. We only got a diary as an extra," said Magma.

"Let's just get out of here," added another.

Magma nodded as the group nodded. They saw two figures, Bwario and Bwaluigi, who were sent to check on them.

"So?" Bwario demanded. "What happened?"

"The job was a success," responded Magma. "We got the documents."

"Hmmm... Let's see them," Bwario said, snatching the documents out of Magma's hands. Bwaluigi just stood by, staring at the ground. As Bwario shuffled the papers hastily, he had a small amused expression.

"Lava Queen better like this."

He looked at Sizzle, who had Peach's diary in his hands.

"Watcha got there?"

"Peach's diary," Sizzle said.

"Hmmm, yeah. I'm sure Lava Queen will accept this."

He passed the documents to Bwario, who looked at them.

"The kid's right. These are acceptable."

He passed them back to Magma, who gave a sigh of relief. Bwaluigi held out a remote and pressed a button. As he did, a hatch had opened up and a cannon popped out. It was large and obvious.

"We're getting out of here. Move it."

The Lava Kids were crammed into the cannon as Bwario lit it. The cannon let out a loud bang, enough to alert Mario and others. As soon as the Lava Kids were sent back to Lava Pit, Bwario and Bwaluigi followed back, with another bang from the cannon.

"What was that!?" panicked Luigi, who was already shaken from the first cannon shot. Mario rushed to a window and saw the cannon automatically lowering into the hatch where it closed shut.

"What the-?"

"Get the door open!" Mario heard from above him.

As he ran to the door, he could hear the commotion outside. Toads were shouting, running and trying to figure out what happened.

"Did a cannon go off?"

"Yeah, it was this way!"

"This way then!"

Peach, who was nearby, noticed the commotion.

"What happened?" she asked.

"A cannon went off, Princess! We don't know how or why, but we hope that a investigation will be launched." Mario said.

"Do you think Bowser had something to do with this?" she whispered.

"Not likely. Why would he build a cannon next to the castle?" he responded.

"Well, there's only one way to find out."

Either way, they needed to make sure.

PROLOGUE

With the Megabug's downfall, operations in Lava Pit had ceased to continue. With Spawny contained and under care of Princess Peach, there was no reason for any fused Rabbids or any reason to build weaponry. Lava Pit had grown ominously quiet like Spooky Trails, but even that place had action from time to time. The once rampant foundry had stopped like an engine being shut off.

Despite many of the Rabbids freed from the Megabug's control, there were still some that resorted into hiding in a haven led by the infamous Lava Queen. She had been running her little kingdom since she escaped from the factory.

As Bowser Junior had long left, she yearned to control Lava Pit and make it her empire. She wanted a kingdom, an army, and most of all...Mario. She wanted him all to herself, disregarding the rest of his friends. Or course, that especially included Rabbid Peach, her sworn nemesis.

Since, their last battle which led to a humiliating defeat, Lava Queen knew she had to unleash a proper element of surprise. This would mean a lot of preparation much to her annoyance. Nonetheless, she refused to accept a sloppy plan. She gathered her remaining loyal minions, a bunch of little molten rabbids called the Lava Kids.

"I want you to infiltrate the Mushroom Kingdom, get everything you need to know. Don't come back until you've reported something to my interest." she ordered.

"But, what about Mario?" one of the Lava Kids asked.

"Especially Mario. Do NOT forget about Rabbid Peach. She's the biggest obstacle in my path." she replied.

"Rabbid Peach? I don't understand. Why would you want to take revenge on her?"

This was an obvious answer for Lava Queen, she detested Rabbid Peach ever since their first encounter. Rabbid Peach always seemed to have the upper hand in combat and would topple Lava Queen. Sometimes literally. This would lead to much frustration and rage on the part of the 'queen' but she wasn't one for giving up.

"She got in my way. A lot." she answered in a bitter and resentful tone. "Investigate her, thoroughly! I'll be sending my two henchmen to monitor your progress."

These were Bwario and Bwaluigi, the arch rivals of Rabbid Mario and Rabbid Luigi. At this point you had no idea how this was going to play out, but if there was one thing you know about the Lava Kids, is their fiery dedication.

"Bwaluigi will activate the cannon to send you there. I expect results." Lava Queen sternly tasked as the 6 Lava Kids were seated into a disconnected roller coaster car. A few moments later, the cannon went off with a loud "POW!", the coaster started to rev up. The Lava Kids were excited as they rode towards their destination. Lava Queen looked up as the coaster disappeared in the sky. She turned to the two.

"You do your part. I can handle the rest." she said to them before walking off.
