i saw the outsiders on broadway a few weeks ago and here are my notes (these notes might not make sense if you havent seen the boot, sorry) (also not every song is included just because i zoned out a lil during a few parts sorry)

jpc was on for paul & hailey was on for marcia and they were both amazing

i forgot ponyboy enters from the audience and got JUMPSCARED

grease got a hold

after soda’s bit ace also made a v and licked it (idk if she was making fun of soda or doing it fr), then held it by her crotch

the transition between grease got a hold and runs in the family was very cool/symbolic (at the end of ggah, everyones like laughing and messing around, and darry just bangs on the hood of the car and everyone gets quiet and the lighting switched to just him, which was super jarring and a good tone change)

friday at the drive in

after the benches get set up, ace and two-bit were just like laying under cherry & marcia’s bench. not bothering them just like staring at the ceiling/sky/underside of the bench and cuddling which was cute

when cherry invites ponyboy and johnny to sit with them, they were HILARIOUS and so 14/16 yo. like they fixed their clothes and johnny was copying how pony was sitting for a lil and it was just so so funny

runs in the family reprise

darry’s escalation from tired to angry was well-done by brent

when darry slaps pony and it goes to slo-mo, soda tilts the table, cool visual effect

bob was facedown in the water tire thing after johnny stabs him

while everyone is moving all the wood planks and tires and stuff, darry & soda, and cherry, paul & the cop were both up on the catwalk thing with dally, which was a cool visual

act ii

justice for tulsa

the flashlight into the audience was really jarring

hailey as marcia was really good

stage combat was great (when paul steps on two-bit, the actor was literally holding him up and it looked SO GOOD)

throwing in the towel

everyone was amazing, esp soda

johnny was like curled up in a fetal position (prolly to get his legs out of the way but still)

sodas letter

soda was also so good

little brother

dally was AMAZING. SO FANTASTIC. the singing and acting were both on point and he really seemed like a kid. (i think seeing this alone has made me a dally fan)

also, during little brother a few of the lyrics tie into that monologue(ish) that dally has about running away from problems and such

the last scene (yes ik its not a song but it deserves its own section)

brent comer as darry. INCREDIBLE. he really playing tired older brother who still cares a lot so well

when darry asks to read pony’s story, pony just looks up and says “really?” like he was surprised darry wanted to read it

the dynamic between the brothers in this scene specifically was so good because soda would be encouraging pony and pony wouldn’t really listen, but when darry would say stuff it was so clear pony looked up to him

at some point im pretty sure soda was crying (or he had a runny nose lol there was sniffling)

overall things

whenever there was a scene where the greasers and socs were like facing off (tulsa ‘67, any fight scene) the greasers were always on the right side of the stage (house right, stage left) and the socs were on the other side

every single fight scene was INCREDIBLE. the use of the slo-mos, lighting and sound was SO GOOD and you really felt immersed in it
