My name is Poptart Cat, but everyone calls me Poptart! she/her. I am a fanfic writer, obsessed with most children’s media, particularly cartoons (such as SU and DT17) and books such as The Outsiders, PJO, and HP (The Outsiders especially, my beloved <3)

My AO3 is The_Poptart_Cat. I currently have 78 works across 10 fandoms (SU, The Outsiders, MLB, PJO, HP, DP, SVTFOE, DT17, TOH, and TGAMM). My latest are about The Outsiders, which is my current obsession. My most recent ongoing fics are The Grass is Always Greener and The Curtis Gang!

okok confession… I’ve never actually watched the movie (oops) I discovered it on Pinterest and read the Wikipedia article for it (it’s on my to watch list dw, I js don’t have the time/attention span for a lot of things)

A common problem I have is capturing the essence of a piece of media and centering a fic around it without actually reading/watching the thing it’s inspired on (I needa get better at not doing that)

Totally get that! I can’t read or write for media I don’t wholly understand because it feels ‘tainted’ or ‘dishonorable’ for lack of better words for the fandom. Watched the movie, never finished the book bc of the part where the mom cheats.

I feel like Pony would lose sight of how rough and unsheltered his childhood was compared to the average kid, because he was a little more protected than most kids on the east side on account of his parents and brothers and older gang.

“I was the youngest of three brothers and a gang of seven, so I grew up pretty sheltered.”

Pony’s college/adult friends: “you were in a gang? How is that sheltered??”

Pony: “like I said, they were all older than me. They were all either bigger than me or they carried a blade. They walked around with me a lot, so I didn’t get jumped for the first time til I was fourteen.”

Friends: “fourteen?!”

Pony: “I know, I can’t believe I made it that long. I didn’t even fight in rumbles til I was about thirteen, and then once I started, my brothers were always there with me. Lots of kids in my neighborhood started fighting younger than that, but most of them didn’t have folks who cared what they were up to, like I did. At least until they died.

Friends: “your parents died……?”

Pony: “yeah but even then I was protected from a lot. The state was always threatening to take me and my brother away from our oldest brother and put us in a boys home, but that never happened. And I never went to the reformatory even once, not even after I was on the run for murder. In fact, once the charges were dropped after my buddies died, that was when the juvenile court ruled that I got to stay with my brothers. All and all, I’ve been really lucky. I didn’t have to grow up too fast like a lot of kids in my neighborhood.”

Friends: “………………”

I think Soda and Two-Bit would have this razzle-dazzle kind of relationship where they get into super stupid shenanigans and it has everyone questioning why they’re not best friends. And then you catch Soda and Steve, who perfectly balance each other out. Steve reels Soda in but Soda pushes him into the water and together they find out when to enter the ocean, yk?
