THIS RIGHT HERE!!! Checking my ego or at times having it checked has been one of the GREATEST lessons I have had in my life. Thing is, I don't think having an ego is a problem, but having an unhealthy one is. I push myself almost every time I get on my bike. I think about B.E.D. Not about sleeping, but Better Every Day. Sometimes it is just a casual distance ride, but most days I talk about going for it. "It" being some metric, usually speed-related. Yesterday wasn't one of those rides. I set out with Elvis @efxiii for a casual 60k ride. There were a couple of moments I wanted to push. Like when we got passed by a group and or saw someone attempting a challenging section. The unhealthy ego. The thing is it was part of the route I originally planned, but my body wasn't up to it. Truth is, for numerous reasons, I never should have gone on the ride in the first place, but didn't want to cancel last minute. Thankfully, Elvis was graceful and recognized that I wasn't in my "usual" form and agreed to modify the route 3/4's of the way. Even then, shortly after that, we pulled over and I called to be picked up. I didn't even want to try to push any further. I was done. The cycling term is I "bonked" The decisions without ego undoubtedly led to a more favourable outcome for me. Having the right support around made all the difference too. Knowing how this happened will help prevent it from happening EVER again too. I will still push. Continue on my solo rides, but on this day as I am glad I did what Chris @mandemcc says "ride your bike with your friends" Have a picture-perfect day Beautiful People. How was my day? It started with a nice 32k training session on the bike, to errands with my daughter, chasing my granddaughter, checking outbthebFood Truck Fest to a magazine cover shoot later in the afternoon. I caught myself "complaining" about being busy. The truth is I was just a bit overwhelmed by the blessings. I just had to sit down I remember this is what I asked for and be grateful. How about you? A day late, but I would like to acknowledge that the land on which I ride, and where I live is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples inhabited and cared for this land, and continue to do so today. In particular, the territory of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Metis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit.
