I'm looking for a one shot in which MC goes to a costume party (maybe Halloween? Not sure) and there she finds Jake, wearing his Guy Fawkes mask, hiding in the crowd to get to meet her.
I don't know if who wrote it is still here but I'd really like read it again 🥺🥺🥺
From the third row to the back, it is packed with people. I can't recognise a single one. Not because I don't recognise the faces, it's because all the faces are hidden. Each is wearing a black hoodie with the hood over their head and a black mask on their mouth and nose. The sight makes tears roll down my cheeks, I didn't hear them coming in. I wipe them away with my sleeve and look at the room again to take in the sight and the amount of respect towards Jake. At the very back I see Alan and Andrew standing against the wall, bewildered, but not hostile. After a last glance, I focus on the paper I hold in my hands, clear my throat.
My voice cracks and falters. "I have spent the past few days searching for the right words to say to you my love" I begin. "Only with my own words could I not find them. So I asked for help from the internet." I let out a small laugh as I feel the tears welling up thinking about the search we did abouy Hannah's medicine. "I found this poem, love." again I clear my throat and wipe the tears from my cheeks.
"In a farewell a petal gracefully takes flight,
Within a vibrant field, where passions ignite,
Why can't you hold me, as I lay here in despair?
Don't witness my heart crumbling, tuming to air.
But your every gesture holds an elegance untold,
In those mesmerizing eyes, pleasure unfolds.
I yearn for you so deeply, it becomes a sweet pain,
For in your embrace, my true treasure gain.
No words can capture the depth of what I feel,
Unspoken emotions, so raw and real.
Guide me through this labyrinth of unspoken sorrow,
As I offer my last song, a devotion to borrow.
Beneath the shared sky, our souls intertwine.
May I find you in my dreams, a love so divine.
Before my tears cease, before they dry,
Read my poetry of last vow, where emotions fly.
Together, we'linger under the starry dome,
In these verses, my love forever finds a home.
For as time fades and the world goes on somehow
May my last vow in these words, bring solace to you now."
Now the tears are flowing like not before today. When I found the poem, it hit exactly the way I had the words in my head but could not speak them. The undertaker hands me a tissue and as I take it I look back into the room. Everyone sits in silence, eyes fixed on me, all each affected, but one person more touched than the others. I pay no attention to it, it only strikes me and beyond that it doesn't get through to me.
While drying my tears with the tissue, I sit back down next to Mary, who also has a tissue or four in her hands herself. I rub her arm for a moment, during which she puts her hand on mine and gives a brief squeeze. The undertaker keeps silent for a moment so that the words I have just spoken remain in the air for a while. Then he picks up the urn and walks my way, I stand up and accept the urn. "Follow me" with his respectful tone he directs me the way to the path towards the scatter field.
I step onto the path and lead the way with behind me, Mary, Lilly and Dan, followed by the group of "anonyms". Only to be completely thrown off guard by the line of even more anonyms lining the path. Each puts his or her hand on his or her heart with the other over it as I walk past. Anonymous number four along the path speaks "When I go, don't learn to live without me". As I slowly walk on and pass the next anonymous "Just learn to live with my love in a different way". And then the next "And if you need to see me" next "Close your eyes". And the next one standing along the path "or look in your shadows when the sun shines". The two I then pass are silent only to hear another anonymous one speak "I'm there."
Each every so many anonymous speaks a sentence until I reach the field. What they said forms a poem aswell.
"Sit with me in the quiet and you will know that I did not leave.
There is no leaving when one soul is blended with another,
When I go don't learn to live without me just learn to look for me in the moments."
The last anonymous is just standing on the edge of the field, turns to me and utters the last sentence "I will be there". I look the man in the eye and stare straight into the same oh-so-familiar bright blue eyes, the eyes I could curse but I very much want to drown in. His words, and how bizarre the environment is, the situation we are in now. A funeral nonetheless, is somehow so appropriate.
I turn away from him and take a few steps into the field, alone, out of the earshot of the crowd. I open the urn and wait for the wind. As soon as I feel wind rising I scatter the ashes, which in turn are absorbed by the wind, and speak softly with the wind "Goodbye Jake, I forgive you, I hope you can forgive me too. Let me embrace your new you in my life and in your new life, my love, my Mark."

"Eternal vow" by RzUr Artt at pinterest (unknown to me if this is the autor)
I am standing in the parkinglot in front of the funeral home. I take in the building and its surroundings. Lots of nature, flowers are planted along the walkways, weeping birches and willows seem to have sprouted at random and the drooping branches sway quietly in the breeze. It is a serene atmosphere, exactly what a cemetery should emanate, eternal peace.
It is late in the afternoon, the sun is already starting to set. With the assistant at the mortuary, I had planned a nice quiet farewell. There wouldn't be many visitors anyway, Mary and I certainly would, Lilly and Dan aswell, but otherwise maybe Alan or Andrew the FBI supervisor might be there. I had asked if 'Jake' could be cremated before the ceremony took place. So that in the small room of the funeral home I could do a memorial, where the temporary urn will already be there. The assistant had told me that the cemetery has a beautiful scattering fiele. And that is what I wanted to do, give Mark, the real one, a beautiful final resting place.
I take a deep breath of air and walk inside. The small room, was not as small as I thought. Fifty people would easily fit in. There are chairs, divided into two to create a middle aisle. At the front of the room, the urn sits on a small table decorated with flowers. White roses, that was my choice, to symbolise the love I feel for Jake. There is gentle quiet but neutral music, I had indicated that would be enough.
The further I walk down the room towards the urn, the more the lump in my throat grows. Despite the fact that I know it's not Jake in the urn and I'm not going to scatter him, it is a farewell. It is a goodbye to the Jake I have come to know, a goodbye to Jake's existence. And even that I know he is now sitting on the sofa at home in his house, safe, it brings tears to my eyes. I had called him, after planning the memorial. I had told him about the meeting with his mother, and what I had told him about why the FBI was looking for him. He had to chuckle a little when I told him that. "How did you figure that out?" Had he asked as I got it right in one go.
I had urged him not to come to the memorial. It is quite something that his mother wanted to be there and help stage the play. But I don't want to give her a harder time than necessary and for her expression to betray that Mark is Jake. And besides, for her it's also a form of saying goodbye to her son in a way. She has no idea that there is a actual cremated body in the urn, I had told her it is just ashes from burned coal and wood.
In the front row are Mary, Lilly and Dan. All three look up as I walk past them to the urn and place my hand on it for a moment. Everything should be an act, but I feel the mourning. The mourning of losing last year. The mourning of never having 'Jake' again. The mourning for Mark who had to sell his life for the freedom of my greatest love, planned or not. I release my breath that I had been holding all this time, turn around and sit down next to Mary.
It does not take long for the undertaker to speak. As if in front of a full room, he starts speaking. "Welcome family and friends, we are gathered here in memory of Jake Alexander Harisson. In a moment, his beloved will speak a few words in his honour. Afterwards, she will walk with Jake's urn to the scattering field, she has indicated each of you are welcome to attend the scattering of Jake's ashes. Miss Schmidt, if you are ready." He turns to me and extends his hand invitingly. I take another deep breath, stand up, walk to the urn and turn towards the room. I expected to speak to an empty room, but I am overwhelmed by what I see.
"I think you are familiar with the 1980s and 1990s. They were high times for activists, fighting for rights and less government interference." As she nods I continue "Times have changed. But activism has not stopped, it continued, just not in the streets with riots. Or parades with placards. But online, on the internet. And this activism is global. Not just temporary or alternating countries. This is continuous. And your son, is one of them. One of the biggest and one of the most wanted."
It fell silent for a while. In the meantime, we got our second cup of coffee from the waitress. "He never hurt anyone?" was her first question. "Well, not like you think. He has never harmed anyone. But..." I quickly take a sip of my coffee and think about the guy who is laying in a coolcell waiting for a cremation. Which I will never tell her. "He certainly did hurt the government. And that's why they've been looking for him for six years. His methods may not be clean, but his motives are." I let another silence fall, and immediately use it to empty my cup. Frankly, I have no idea why the FBI is after him. His succinct explanation gave no reason why. But I don't want to leave her feeling bad about her son later.
"I judged him too brutally didn't I? And punished him too harshly?" her voice still sounds as soft as before. "I can't judge that Mrs Harrison. I think for single mothers it is always far too hard and difficult life. Especially if they have become mothers early in life." I try to reassure her a little, even though I'm not so sure I can.
"Please, call me Mary," she rubs her mouth and cheek with her hand to organise her thoughts. "I see from you, you want to tell me more." she raises her eyebrow. The movement brings a smile to my face, it is just like Jake's. "That's right, only this is information that only Jake and I know. To keep him safe and alive." My smile disappears again as quickly as it came. Mary nods and puts her hand on mine. "How long have you been trying to protect him?" The question upsets me a little. "I'm afraid it's actually more the other way around, Mary. He protects me, at any cost to him. And it costs him more than what he has." As I say this, I feel my tears welling up. Not so much from sadness, more from regret. "Tell me." she rubs my hand again.
I sigh "He removed his entire existence, for me. And by that, I literally mean his existence. Nothing can be traced back to him anymore. He has really given up everything, for me." As I say this, I wipe a tear from my cheek. "I've been pretty stupid." I confess to her. "What do you mean?" she asks in surprise. "I've been so angry with him. I had too little faith in him. I thought too mean about him. Despite the situation I was in being able to justify everything, I should have trusted him and I didn't." I stop talking because I have to swallow the lump in my throat. "We both should have had the trust in him." she says as sadly as I do.
"The very hardest thing to tell you is yet to come, Mary." I let my gaze rest on our hands. "Sometime next week there will be a cremation. The media, police and FBI will think Jake is being cremated. That's the last step to make sure he's free." I sigh out the last words. "And the hardest part is asking me to come?" her voice sounds like she is reassuring me. "Actually, yes. That would only make the preformance seem even more real." I'm a little embarrassed to ask this of her.
"And if I may ask?" she continues "Do you think I will ever see my son again?". Before I answer her, I have to think. "I'm afraid not for a long time. First the FBI's focus on me has to go away. Then only when it has really blown over completely and we are one hundred per cent sure the eyes are turned the other way. Maybe then there will be a chance. But I dare not promise anything." I try to give her as honest an answer as possible. She nods that she understands, but says nothing.
Layana: Hey, I contacted your mother. I arranged to meet her at 1 pm. Thought let you know.
I walk towards the coffee corner. During the bus trip, I checked several times if he had read my message, but unfortunately not. As I get closer I see a woman waiting at the entrance, there is no doubt in my mind that it is Jake's mother. Her bright blue eyes are unapologetically Jake's. And her black long hair, despite hanging in a low ponytail and showing some grey, is such a likeness to her son. The only thing that has no resemblance is her height; Jake easily stands two heads above her. He must have that height from his father.
"Hello Ms Harrison" I greet her as I hold out my hand to shake. She takes my hand in hers, trembling. "You must be Miss Schmidt?" She asks bit skeptically. "Yes. Shall we go inside?" I suggest as I open the door for her so she can step inside. It is quiet inside, a few other guests are sitting at tables and murmuring softly. As soon as we sit down, a waitress comes to take our order and then there are two of us.
Before I can even start the conversation she starts talking. "Miss Schmidt, I have zero information about my son. The last time I saw and spoke to him was about six years ago. After that, I never heard from him again. So if you are hoping for any kind of information from me, I have to disappoint you". She sighs, as if this is a rant she has said regularly. "Don't worry, I don't come here to get information about his whereabouts." I give her a small smile. Even though she tries to hide it I can see the surprise on her face. "Mrs Harrison, you can call me Layana. And I am here ..." I can't finish my sentence because my phone goes off. Stupidly, I had forgotten to put it on silent. "My apologies" I say as I pull out my phone and see that Jake has sent me a message.
Jake: Am I too late? I changed my mind. I can't bear to tell my mother this lie. Even though we will probably never speak to each other again, I can't break her mother's heart this way.
Layana: If you have responded a minute later the lie would have already been told. Don't worry, I respect your choice. It will be fine, okay?
Jake: Thank you.
Frowning, she looks at me waiting for me to finish and put my phone away again. This time though on silent. "Sorry again. You can call me Layana." I start again but pause for a moment as she nods in approval. "Jake and I..." I sigh, this is going to be hard to explain. "Romantic partners?" She interrupts the silence. "Yes, that's a good description." I confirm. I have to think carefully about how to carry on the conversation, now that Jake has changed his mind.
"I did not contact you for that reason, per se. Although I feel it should be me speaking to you." I notice myself beating around the bush. Quickly I clear my throat and bite through. "I don't want you to see on the news tomorrow what happened to your son. Especially because that will not be the whole story, or rather the honest story." Looking at her, I see that her eyes have grown big and are filling with tears. "Oh no no, he's still alive." I could slap myself in the head. Of course she had expected the message that he must be dead. "He's still alive?" She whispers softly. "Yes, only that won't be told in the news. The news will tell he passed away. You know your son is a hacker. You probably don't know that he is on the FBI most wanted list, well was."
She nods "That was the reason I had kicked him out of the house. I did everything to give him what he needed. I worked three jobs so he could study. But I think the lack of a father figure in his life is why I failed him and he lost the right path. Because he got greedy and therefore wanted to hack people to get money." She let out a sigh in dejection. "He was such a sweet little boy. Way too smart for his young age and got bored easily. In his teens, he hung out with the wrong friends and ended up in that stupid computer world of his." The disapproval for Jake's choices could be clearly heard in her tone. "And just after his twenty-fourth birthday, two men showed up on my doorstep. They came for Jake. Two FBI agents nonetheless. That was the last straw for me." She pauses as she notices that I want to respond. "I can guarantee you, Jake has never extorted a single person with his hacking skills. Have you ever heard of the term 'hactivist'? Politely, I ask her the question. "Uhm, no. What is that?" genuinely questioning, she looks at me.
Ok, let's recap, if the path that Adam takes as they say in the game also leads to the Motel if he was in the car… What made him change course to the woods? What made him change his mind?
What was he doing in that place and why didn't Eric name him?
Well, new theory… Maybe Violet does know exactly what Adam was doing, she had the key at that time and to avoid being questioned for perhaps fear of what Adam may actually be investigating, she decided to put them on Adam's keychain when Eric dropped them
Because of course, if he wanted to enter the forest through Vega, why didn't he take it with him?
If we think that it was placed intentionally for us, is it to help us find Adam or to set a trap for us?
Adam doesn't have to be at Greenside at all. He actually told us he couldn't make it there.
So, what if... the car was not put there by Adam. But by some unknown person. Who then indeed placed Vega in the boot. And also placed the card in the glove compartment. And then to theorise even more. MC is not the stranger, but Whitmore is. And then... we have to search for "the liar"... In theory. Can we unknowingly be part of a scavenger/treasure hunt? 🤔
So we can't really assume which Greenside it might be, but it's assumed to be the motel at the end because of the keys.
Yes, they could have left the car on to attract attention
The only thing that doesn't fit is the card, which was addressed to us 😅 and Whitmore's letter had no name on it because it was burned, so we wouldn't know what his name was
Greenside is the whole mountain. At least thats what Eric told me. So, the overlook, part forest and the motel are all Greenside... so... why would he even be there. The culprit could have taken Adams car and put it anywhere they wanted.
The card, well its just speculation. I think, the liar card envelop at Whitmore had MCs name aswell. Unknown also thinks we are in the forest and then later thinks we are at Whitmores. So... would be plausible
He put the car near where Vega was giving the signal, to guide us, so he wouldn't leave it there just to leave the car, he left it so we could guide ourselves directly, so it wasn't placed in a random place if it was placed by someone else and not because Adam parked, unless he was being chased and left the car on, deciding to flee into the woods without getting to Vega in time and wander aimlessly, being finally caught by his captor
I don't think so, Whitmore would have no reason to burn the envelope then if our name was on it because for him, it would perhaps be a clue, instead, it makes sense that it had his real name and that he was called a liar for some reason that we don't know (I theorize that Whitmore could perhaps be Billy's father tormented by what he did in the past and the disappearance of his son)
Then why would Adam leave a voicemail at Eric to pick him up at the parkinglot? Then send our number to Eric? This sounds so much as a bait.
Or... now that I am even more thinking... Could it be Adam thought he would go into tge forest with MC with Vega? Like the two of them? Some sort of fun get away? Now my mind is running miles...
Imagine. Adam plans a weekend away with MC he never really met? Motel, overlook. Romantic walks in forest in the middle of the night with a GPS tracker in one hand and MC in his other... climbing fences.. running to the welcoming arms of a creepy loner, Whitmore.
Nothing actually seems to me as coincidence. First the card in the car, then vega, then the strange man in a forbidden forest, to find another card their. While an unknown person is convinced MC is the forest and not Eric. If playing as a MC with female charastics its quite hard to not see the difference?
I feel that Adam was probably not going to be the last victim and was being threatened, we were going to be next, but maybe she wanted to call Eric for help. She couldn't wait any longer and decided to send our contact thinking that we would be of help to Eric because the guy who was pretending to be us, sent it to him the same night before meeting him
Well, at the moment it could be that that MC he met was someone pretending to be us while investigating something he discovered, which made that person catch Adam's attention and attract him to be a victim. Whitmore seems innocent to me, I don't think it has to do with Adam and his disappearance, but maybe he's watching the forest to look for something we don't know yet
Hey, Unknown doesn't discriminate, I'm sure that for him, if Eric has to have a female name, he must think that he's free to do so, he's an ally 😂
But I do think it has to do with Whitmore, but not with Adam's direct disappearance, at least, that doesn't indicate it at the moment
I agree! I also had the thought someone has to pretend to be MC. And scammed Adam thinking it was us. And if it is a she. I vote Ash! With Brain of course because it's to obvious and thats why its him 🤣
Whitmore feels like he is like a 'watcher' or 'protector' to make sure thats whats in Darkrise never leaves Darkrise.
I don't know, it doesn't make sense that it's Ash, everyone seems to know where she is at that moment, but no one knows where Brian is
And no one goes into Darkrise or he wouldn't offer to help Eric leave at dawn because he shouldn't be there (although it went wrong because of Unknown)
Unknown: It doesn't matter what your name is or your gender, if you feel comfortable with yourself, that's what matters
Moonvale gives me headaches already... just two episodes in. 😌 My hopes are only going up.
No, it's not Ash. I know. But.. would be cool to have like Eric has been the bad guy allong. And now MCa heart is broken twice. Like. That would be good drama. 😅
Unknown: You're amazing as you are. And don't change for anyone but yourself. 🥰
Unless you're the killer and monster. Than please change for the sake of all of us. 🤣

You will never guess, but Cause of Pain is not over yet. Yes it took me almost 2 years to continue this story. There is really more to this story, and I really really want to finish it.
So for those, who once a long long time ago have read this story... more will be comming. 😅
Without futher ado...
Cause of Pain
Part 24
Jake: My mothers name is Mary. Mary Harrison. My last name is the same.
After a somewhat awkward goodbye, I closed my phone. Thinking... thinking of his words. Yes he made me suffer, immensely. But the reasons he acted the way he did were not completely unfounded, it was not the nicest or finest way, rather the opposite. Sometimes I seem to forget why he had gone into mine. That we had even had argued about it. With tears, I begged him not to go, but he had done the same to me. And in the end he was sacrified his life so that I was safe. And I have to be honest to myself too, he has kept his word.
He had given everything he had and could and more. He also suffered immensely and still does. Am I this selfish? Blinded by my own pain and sorrow? Could I call it selfpity? There was a time that I would have done anything for him. There was a time when I would give up my life to give him his freedom. And actually, despite everything, I still would. Only in reality, I gave up my life for myself. While he doesn't even have his own identity anymore.
I don't know how long I mulled over it. But I do know that I have now got up with a headache and am grumbling over coffee in Lilly's kitchen. She had left for work before I even got out of bed. With the coffee cup in one hand, I scrolled through the search results about Mary Harrison on my phone with my other hand. It took me little effort to find her details. "The past year also had its perks." I mutter a little with a faint smile around my mouth.
Mary Harrison, aged 53. Unmarried, lives just below middle class. She currently works as a nurse in a care home for the elderly. Current home address: 76 Mozart Avenue, Colville. Telephone number 59043. Children: 1 son. Jake Alexander Harrison, born 5 November 1994. Address unknown. Other details, equally untraceable. That last one was far from a surprise and the faint smile I had at first turned into a wide smile. I decide that when I finished my coffee, I had freshen up and got dressed to call Jake's mother.
The phone rings three times before being answered. "Harrison resident, this is Mary." Her voice is firm and clear, but not stern or bossy. "Good morning Ms Harrison, you are speaking to Layana Schimdt. You do not know me, but I would like to speak to you in person. It's about your son." I try to sound as neutral as possible, as far as I can. Because nerves are racing through my body, my heart is pounding in my throat, my mouth is dry and it's a wonder I still have my phone in my hand with all the shaking.
The long silence doesn't ease my nerves. Rather, it makes me even more tense. "I've been expecting this phone call for many years." she begins, now a whole lot less confident than she sounded a minute ago, to continue "In Colville, there is a nursing home called Bloom Bridge Eldercare, opposite is a coffee corner, we can meet there. This afternoon at 1 pm if that's convenient." Sighing, she speaks the words. "1 pm is fine with me. See you then." I answer her before disconnecting. I have to hurry, I don't have much time to make sure I get there by 1 pm.
Well... I have been thinking too. Just humor me and imagine an really friendly and concerning voice in your mind. Someone with real good intentions, like genuine good.
Do you have it in your mind. Hold it and then read these words of Unknown...
He really comes across a bit less creepy... more lost and wanting to help. Sooooo...
I am going along with this unknown. Last time I did put my trust in a Unknown person...
Well... now my heart is like going crazy so is my mind. And the longing is even worse...
Duskwood learned me one thing. The unknowns are the most sexy 🫠🫢🤫🫣🤣🤣🤣
And a little last ep duskwood for those who havent played yet 😉 (You really should play Duskwood though)
For those who played Duskwood and are just as me... and did flirt with our new guy Eric....
Just think about this:
Jake risking his dear life for MC. Put his life at our mercy... in our hands. Eventually says he loves MC... Doing everything in his power to survive, to get to his one and only love.
