Jax might be even more right than we think that he is when he says the crew is nothing more than cartoon characters, and Im putting the accent on the cartoon part of it.
Ever since the beginning of the series, there is a heavy thing going with cartoonic gimmicks, ones that we attribute to the visual genre of the show, something made up to show off the animation skills of the 3d artists, or to create comedy. But no. It is actually a plot part of the story.
This one time Jax says to Pomni she holds her gun too realistically, and fails when she does, but when she starts holding her gun much more cartoon like, she actually gets the target.
Or when Jax looses a life because Ragatha does that famous cartoony move of putting a finger up, deflecting the bullet on Jax.
Or AGAIN, when Pomni only has one bullet in the cylinder, rotates it so many times its impossible to know where the bullet is (1 chance out of 6 to fire the bullet) but when she shoots(without even aiming) it actually disarmed Zooble's four weapons.
All of this is cartoony and it is more than intentional.
But what could it mean? And why does it work? Well, Kinger is the one who seems to answer that. Kinger restores Ragatha's lost heart, because he made the rule that butterflies are healing objects. And that he can make them spawn too.
He made me realize (and probably lots of us too) that they can make up rules in this world when it involves cartoon logic.
And Jax already did in the past! Jax is the master of keys, not because he finds keys, but because he decided that he would be the master of unlocking things, he made that rule, although, probably without realizing it directly.
What does it change? Freaking everything. The way the characters see what is possible and what isnt..
As far as now, Caine controls everything in the circus like said in the Pilot, (except minds apparently), he can freaking create adventures, npcs, teleport or drag people by snapping his fingers, heck, he even floats, and he is referenced as "God" by other ais (the princess in Episode 2 or the guy of the manor in Episode 3). Caine, is actually using all this rule thingy to do whatever he wants.
And if all the crew did the same, using that fully, each one of them would be as powerful and in control as Caine is, and by extend, probably not as dependent on him anymore when it comes to reset their bodies once damaged, creating adventures, or explore beyong what is allowed.
The cursing rule is probably something made up by Caine, a rule saying that you get censored when you curse. Or the rule that say that characters cant remember their names once they enter the circus. Or... the rule that says people abstract when they start loosing it, and get aggravated in lighten up environments.
After all, the digital circus IS a game. Why wouldnt it be possible to do whatever?
I dont know if the show would go as far as exploiting this, but it definitely keeps giving hints that it is possible, I cant list how freaking many of those cartoon gimmicks there is in the show throughout the episodes. And in the future, the characters might do more and more of it, even if unaware of what it could be at its full potential.
