Water ruins memorial/tombstone doubt

So you all remember the Water Ruins… crypt? Memorial? Tombstone thingie? The one that if you check, it says there’s something written in an ancient language?

If you bring Leon with you, he translates it for you:

“A relic from my time.” Is what Leon says. Which sounds weird, cause we all know this is in memory of Dylas, who was the third Guardian. Surely centuries have passed from Leon’s time to Dylas, judging by how neither Dolce or Dylas can understand this old language (plus, their drastically different clothing styles), so it seems weird to me that Leon would say this about this tombstone. 

I’m now wondering if maybe Dylas was meant to be the second Guardian, and then they switched him with Dolce and just changed a few dialogue. I have no other evidence to support this, this is just me trying to make sense of this line of Leon. Maybe he’s mistaken though? Maybe the people from Dylas’ town wrote this in old language for some reason, and maybe Leon misjudged the date from the tombstone… I’m not sure what to think. Any thoughts?

PS: In case someone doesn’t know, there are writings in the back of the tombstone too, and written in contemporary language by Dylas. It’s very sweet, check it out under the read more!

I’m coming out of my years of tumblr slumber to reply to this 6 month old post and say that I’m playing the game in Japanese at the moment, and what Leon says in Japanese is ”俺の時と同じだな。。。”, which is literally “It’s the same as (my time) (my turn)”. 

For the clarity of the story timeline, I interpreted it as “It’s the same as that time with me” or “it’s the same as what I did that time”

Hello I am not sure if you are active but had a newbie RF4 question. I have looked everywhere for the number of crops I’ve shipped when I check the shipping box. I can’t seem to find them total number of a certain crop. I’m new to this game so I’m pretty slow. Would it be posssible for you to point out where these numbers are? I’d truly appreciate. >_

Hi anon! I'd check on my own game to confirm it, but I don't have my 3ds within reach until tomorrow. Also, it's been 4, 5 years since I last played, so I don't exactly remember it? Upon a little research, it seems like there are not exact numbers, but rather crowns to represent the total amount you shipped. It seems you can check this info either on some menu on the shipping box, or on the notebook (one of those pause menus thing). I do recall seeing numbers on the notebook though... I might be wrong. Can someone confirm it?

I keep watching the bachelors’ trailer and let me just say I laugh every time I hear that “Dylas” and that awkward “huh...” Love it, that’s my ridiculous boy. Almost makes me want to buy a switch but the price here and the upscaled pixel art are deterring me :( Hope you guys enjoy it for me then!

(On a side note, I’ve taken down the download link to Dylas voicelines from my blog, an explanation under the read more.)

I saw some people saying (before it was confirmed his voice actor remains D.C. Douglas) how it didn’t sound like him at all, and while at first it sounded a bit alien to me too, after rehearing his voice clips extracted from the game, you can tell it’s the same guy. Specially his marriage lines, the softer ones.

For comparison sake, I was going to upload a compilation of those tender moments when then I vaguely remembered @loftyanchor sharing those under the condition I’d not upload these anywhere. I literally recalled that... two years after sharing all of them on my main blog? Yikes. I can’t remember for the love of God whether I asked if it was okay to share those back then, but the link is off regardless. I’m pretty sure whoever wanted to download it already did it, so the damage is already done, but at least let it be known it was out of forgetfulness, not malice. Sorry :P

Okay so this is probably going to be a relatively unpopular opinion, but I'm almost kind of hoping for Frey and Lest as the cameos... I mean of course I want Leon, but the fact of the matter is most of the time the cameos are already married and are not marriage candidates, so what would be the point. :pout:

Arthur really makes sense as a cameo, he could bring us those essential stone and lumber as a traveling merchant like Raven! Do you think they’d bring the protagonists as the cameos Quartz? That’d be a first time. If it’s not them, do you have guesses on the girl, assuming it’ll be a boy and a girl?

Even if we can’t marry the RF4 duo on RF5, I’ll be happy to see them in a new portrait and little dialogues and new voice clips and aaah!! *VIOLENTLY CROSSES FINGERS FOR DYLAS AGAIN*

I wonder about doing an event sometime before it’s Secret Santa time again. I want to see some more fanart and fic in the tags!

Tips for RF4 Rune Prana

I’m really not the best person to listen to for help, but I thought that I may as well share my experience.

Tip 1.

Run around in Sharance Maze. A lot. Idk how well this will work for other people, but it worked for me! It’s a good way to find stuff like medicine and food that replenishes a lot of RP/HP. But the best thing you can get is weapons. I managed to find an Saint Axe that has 13,500 attack and 8,510 magic attack. I also found Twin Justice (duel blades) that deal 11,247 attack and 9,511 magic attack. While you’re probably not gonna find OP weapons right off the bat, there’s always a chance!! I’d also recommend upgrading your weapons with stuff like Love Crystals, Poison Powder, and other status-affecting items.

Tip 2.

Nationalize Baths. Yes, I know how hard it is to get that many Princess/Prince points, but bear with me. Once you Nationalize the Bath house, you get unlimited free baths. This really, really helps if you want to level up your crafting, forging, and cooking skills (I really recommend this). Of course, you don’t really have to if you’ve got the gold, but still helpful!

Tip 3.

Use a Talisman. You’re crafting skill probably won’t be high enough to make it, but I think there’s an event with Margaret and Dolce where you can get this item. What does the Talisman do? It reverses status affects. For example, if you get poisoned you’ll start to regain HP rather than lose it.

Tip 4.

Get Ayngondaia Lawn. You can usually get it in the Revival Cave after you beat the skeleton dragon thing :). Ayngondaia Lawn basically keeps you alive/resurrects you if you get hit by an attack that would normally kill you.

Tip 5-ish.

Idk how helpful this one is for other people. You should also only use it if you have a way of healing them.

Bring an ally with you, mainly when dealing with strong bosses. Doesn’t matter if it’s one of the characters or if it’s your tamed monster. It doesn’t really matter if they’re super strong or not. If you have an ally with you they can distract some of the monsters while you attack from behind.

I guess that’s basically it for now… Good luck with Rune Prana because lmao we all need it :)

Sharing those tips in case someone needs them! I’d like to add the Talisman is a good choice indeed, but once you can craft the Diamond Brooch I’d use it instead, since it protects you from every condition (such as seal and faint, which the Talisman can’t reverse!)

Also, about the 5th tip: bringing in your party Dolce and/or Margaret can be really useful once you level them up enough! They have healing spells and they actually heal you. Plus, in case you end up passing out anyway, Jones will drop his charges to half of the price whenever you’re with someone in your party, so win win!

Several Pages have been torn out of the diary. Not quite half of them, but the first few that remain contain dire warnings of threats of severe bodily harm and far worse Fates that will come to anybody caught reading the following pages. Once you get past all that, though, the text of the diary picks up, in the same hand.

The handwriting is big. The angles are sharp and aggressive, the capitals large and trailing ends abound.>

I can’t believe it’s finally over. Can’t believe all the things I believed. But mostly I can’t believe the nerve! That person is so pushy and annoying and… I guess I don’t mind at all that much.

Okay, so as we know, it is established in Rune Factory 4 that Dylas became the third Guardian, I headcanon that each of them happened at about 250 year intervals, for the sake of clarity here.

Whatever happened originally in the behind-the-scenes of the game is irrelevant here. ;) What is relevant is that they are using the old language, which only Leon will translate, although I think Barrett can also translate it. With that in mind, and the fact that the language is largely a dead language in the current time frame, we must consider whether or not the language was still in use regularly at the time of Dylas’ guardianship.

1000 years is a very long time, linguistically speaking. 500 years is still a pretty long time, so the presumption is that the language was on its way out, and not unlike Latin, used in Academia and for religious purposes. (It’s been a while, but I do believe that the old language was already not _the_ dominant language in his own time, although it was definitely still in relatively regular use, such that he and his friend were able to write in it at a relatively young age.) Remember, the Divine dragons are Gods as far as the people of Norad are concerned, and so does extremely likely that they would lean towards using the old tongue for something of such momentous import in a religious context.

Regarding Leon’s line, however, it is theoretically possible that the water temple was built shortly after his lifetime, possibly even during what would have been his natural lifespan. We don’t know anything about the temple itself, and Dylas doesn’t talk about it. Even if he knew anything particular, which we have no reason to believe because that was merely the place of his imprisonment in the Guardian form, not where he lived his life. If memory serves, he was not particularly religious… He became friends with Venti, and she with him, on their own merits. So we could even presume that the Water Temple was possibly even built solely for the purpose of housing a Guardian.

Leon has no way of knowing, and uses the language as his primary clue. He doesn’t have any context for the timeline during which his own language, or at least the ancient language, became obscure. He assumes that it is from his time based on the context of the language and phrasing used therein.

TL;DR Leon is pulling things out of his hat, based on the language that was slowly beginning to become obscure in his own time. ;)

I liked your comparison to Latin! Even if it wasn't used on Dylas' time, there could be a religious meaning behind writing that text on an old language, I think you're right! Leon would indeed assume its from his time, based solely on the language. Everyhting makes sense now, wow, thanks Quartz, I knew I could count on you haha!

Also, I never stopped to think about the purpose of the Water Ruins. There wasn't something about places where the runes where stronger, or something like that in game, or I misremembering? I think it is possible they would actually build a temple around the area just to house the Guardian indeed, but I don't think it was made in Leon's lifetime, judging solely by the difference in arquitecture... but...

Hm... Obsidian Mansion surely feels less old than the Water Ruins now that I'm comparing them... Oh, could it be that Dylas was really supposed to be the second Guardian?
