The rooftops are their home, their freedom, the place where they need to be nothing but themselves. (Heroic alter egos aside. There have been plenty of nights when Félix wonders if this isn’t who he wants to be, this loud-mouthed catty brat who doesn’t care how his words affect other people. Who doesn’t have to hide and bottle up his emotions for the sake of the people he loves. Who doesn’t have to be the pillar that holds everyone else up.)This isn’t about him. It’s not about the screaming boy behind the mask of Chat Noir. This is about Ladybug, about the pressure their ‘argument’ has put on her. How he so carelessly uttered the words, “This is just what we do, it’s how it is, you should be used to it by now.” Félix spoke that truth as easily as telling her the weather. He should have known better than that, should know his lady better than that. There she stands, her cheeks as flushed to match her suit, tears clinging to the corners of her eyes and his heart feels too tight in his chest, too swollen, too sore. Too much. He opens his mouth to fix it, to say something that might help ease the pain of the truth. The honest to god truth; they were just a couple of teenagers, trying to get by. Trying to keep their lives and the entire city of Paris in one piece at any given time. They were in over their heads and had no one but each other to rely on for comfort, no one else who understood what had been placed on their shoulders. Chat Noir swallows, hard, acutely aware of the silence that stretches on between them. The only sound is Ladybug’s occasional stifled sniffle.“...I didn’t forget,” he promises her at last, far softer than anything he’s ever said as Chat Noir before. “I just...didn’t think it would be such a sore spot, still. My apologies, my lady. It won’t happen again.” Next time, he would be sure to choose his words more carefully.
“Why is everyone abandoning me? Why?“
On the odd occasion, things pile up. No one knows this better than Félix. Some people are equipped to handle it - or at least, are better versed in hiding it until they can yell and throw a fit in solitude. Adrien? He’s vulnerable. He’s open, he wears his heart on his sleeve and he can only hide so much. Their father is his weak point. He cancels plans, shoots Adrien down, but still somehow acts as though everything he does is for his own good. Without their mother still in the picture, it’s infuriating. Fé finds himself at a loss for what to say, what to do, even after all this time. For what comforts him does not always do the same for his brother. Like reaching for something porcelain and cracked, he presses his fingertips to Adrien’s shoulder and hopes it’s consoling. Selfishly, he hurts at the thought that he isn’t enough to keep the tears at bay. “Not...everyone, Adi. I’m still here.” Though, he knows he can not replace what’s missing.

oh… adrien freezes, mouth hanging open slightly and green eyes wide. he doesn’t say anything; doesn’t move. his heart launching in his chest. A KITTEN? was this a dream? his twin had brought him home a tiny, dirty kitten. a hand slowly raises to his mouth, but other than that he doesn’t move. too afraid that if he does it will FADE. instead, he stares. and stares. watching the small creature in félix’s hands squirm. he’s always wanted a kitten. a pet of any kind really. never fully imagined that day would ever come. UNTIL NOW. gingerly, the model moves closer, hesitantly reaching to scratch the little things head. instantly, tears spring to his eyes as the kitten starts purring.

He finds he actually has to work to fight a smile before it can catch, especially when Adrien starts to tear up. What a marshmallow his brother is. The reminder almost makes him laugh, but Félix carefully holds out the kitten further to give the other better access. The purring is like a chainsaw, growing impossibly loud for a creature of this size, and he can feel the vibrations through his sleeve.
“She was huddled under a bench near the bakery,” trying to escape the rain, and he had heard her crying through the downpour. “I thought...maybe you’d like a friend.”

he’s finishing the last of his homework ( catching up due to a photoshoot that had been moved unexpectedly ) when félix enters his room. he glances up, brow slightly raised. a surprise for him? that wasn’t like the twin brother he knew. SUSPICIOUSLY eyeing whatever it was that the older kept hidden, he does as requested. abandoning his work to cross the room and retrieve the blanket tucked in the drawer of his bedside table. unfolding it, he turns to his brother, curiously asking,

Already moving with purpose across the room, Félix sets the still-open umbrella upside down beside the couch. He doesn’t answer at first, glancing down every now and then as the mass in his shirt squirms and wriggles. He slips into the bathroom, grabbing a towel before picking his way back into the main room.
“No... just pray that Père never finds out about this.”
Without further explanation, he reaches into his shirt and pulls free a tiny, slightly- damp ball of mewing fur. The tiny thing is a bit on the muddy side but once they clean it up, it might be a stunning shade of white. Félix sets it into the towel, wrapping it up and gently rubbing its back.

When he comes in from the rain, he’s more grateful than usual for the absence of their father and Nathalie. Félix wastes no time scurrying to Adrien’s bedroom, one arm curled gently around his shirt where it bulges awkwardly out from his chest.
“Adi,” he speaks quietly as he slips inside, closing the door behind him. “Turn on the heating blanket. I’ve got a surprise for you.”And while he wasn’t much for surprises, or spontaneity, this was something he couldn’t resist.

Bright blue eyes blinked, caught off-guard. He put her on a pedestal? Just a few months ago, it seemed like he wasn’t even certain what her name was—that had been their dynamic for almost two years now. Bridgette tried to approach, Félix shot her down, she tried again, he avoided her…how on earth had she been the one put on a pedestal here?
Bridgette’s nails dug into the palms of her hands, creating crescent-shaped divots in her skin. She had no idea what she was supposed to say; every single scenario she had daydreamed where Félix would tell her he loved her…none of them were like this. She still didn’t understand what she hadn’t measured up to.
Her brow furrowed at his question. “Tell you? I thought I’d been pretty obvious.” There was a small edge to her voice—was he really going to act like he hadn’t noticed her affection?—but mostly, she was just confused.
It was the edge he caught, but then, perhaps he had been looking for it. Waiting for something in her tone to betray her clueless facade, because that’s what it had to be. All this time, she’d been playing him for a fool, leading him to believe she was--
What, Félix? Someone else? Not a fool smitten with a stubborn ass like him? Bridgette’s expression fell into something as perplexed as he felt himself, and for a split second it almost made him angry.
She wouldn’t play dumb. That wasn’t her. The truth was, he had never known anyone more open about their feelings than she was. (A thought that, it should be noted, resonated with him in a way nothing else had.) Suddenly it felt like he was seeing her for the first time.
“Obvio--” Stop. Breathe. Lower your voice, you’re in public. “Obvious, Bridgette? About prancing around the rooftops in a polka-dot unitard?” As he spoke, he realized he was going to have to reveal more than just the truth he knew about her.

@coccinellc Bridgette stood stock-still, eyes wide. Her breath was stuck in her lungs, caught in her throat; what was she supposed to say to that? She couldn’t read Félix’s expression—as always, he was scarily good at hiding his thoughts—and moments passed before her lips pressed together in a tight line.
Months ago, just hearing the word love coming from the blond’s mouth—in regard to her, no less—would have caused her face to burn bright red, and a squeal to pass her lips, shattering any nearby glass. Now, though, she didn’t know what to think. Was she not matching up to the idea he had of her? Did she do something wrong?
“I…is that a good thing, or a bad thing…?”
Félix had never been so inclined to study her before. He stood there, arms folded across his chest tightly, but instead of tucking his hands away he cupped his palms around his elbows. Searching Bridgette’s face, her eyes, taking in details he’d only glanced at before. Piecing together the puzzle that he’d been trying to solve for nearly two years now without realizing it.
How on earth had he gone this long without knowing? Was he really so blind, to not see her for what she was? For who she was? It had hit him like a punch to the jaw in the early hours of the morning, after a patrol. When she smiled. When she laughed. God, he was an idiot.
A thick swallow worked his throat but he held himself together. “Bad, I think,” he decided after pausing for far too long. There had to be a good way to tell her that he knew. “Because that...I put you on a pedestal. Loved the idea of a person I didn’t really know. Didn’t know I knew.”
Didn’t give a chance. “Bridgette, you... were you ever going to tell me?”

The sound of porcelain shattering on tile comes as in immediate response. Fuck. He’s not clumsy. He isn’t fazed by things like that, he does not respond poorly to confessions. Hell, hearing them consistently from Bridgette had completely desensitized him to such a thing. No. He’s cool and level-headed, able to keep a leash on whatever emotion tries to leap forward and cheer loudly enough for everyone in within a mile radius to hear. Right now, that list of people was blessedly limited - to himself, and Nathanael. Félix drew in a deep breath, his shoulders rigid with a tension he knows is completely irrational. “That’s a bit...” Forward? Forward is what he wanted to say. What he didn’t say. What he swallowed and felt hit the pit of his stomach like a boulder. “I-it’s probably the death. Dying. Threat of extinction brings out, er, adrenaline and...” He was practically speechless, his well-organized thoughts knocked off their shelves and scattered about helplessly like the shattered cup at his feet, too much of a mess for him to sort through on short notice. What in the hell was it about Nate that did this to him? It was infuriating. It made his stomach churn, though not in a wholly unpleasant way. Perhaps that made it worse - he had no reason to dislike the boy. The blond did not move, not even to clean up his mess. Fingers gripping the counter top until his knuckles turned white. “........We could survive, you know.” He finished lamely, groaning internally at how idiotic that sounded. Quiet and unsure. Perfect, way to be reassuring. He kind of hoped the ground would just open up and swallow him whole, at least so that he could have time to recompose himself.
