AGATHA HARKNESS and RIO VIDAL Agatha All Along (2024) dir. Jac Schaeffer
for @lcveisweakness
When Agatha leaves the bonfire, she follows automatically. Of course, it would be a lie if she dared to say that she did not say what she said on purpose. She did. She wanted to provoke and see how Agatha would react, but. But. How else would she confess how much that had hurt her as well? Having a heat to heart wasn't exactly the way the two of them used to operate. Especially not a private conversation. But that little set up done by the other Witches was an easy excuse to let her know. Even if she had not even looked at her face while making such a confession. Rio wasn't liked by the other Witches. She was aware of that. They had heard her. Agatha made sure that they had heard her. And their reaction was far from a surprise to her. But she was used to not being liked by Mortals. Lilia's threat meant nothing to her and there wasn't much she could do except growl. To show she would not easily be affected by a mortal. Yet, there was the one single mortal who did affect her. In more ways than she would ever be able to admit. She finds her on the Road, standing with her back to the way to the bonfire and approaches her slowly. Yet she knows that Agatha could feel her way before she got close enough for her steps to be heard. She's always been able to feel her. Gently. Way more gentle than the usual for Rio, she touches her hair. Her back. Her mind is flooded by memories of how this was once the usual for them. But she doesn't allow herself to dwell on it. Not this time.
agatha could hardly keep the sharp façade she kept on her face as rio told her own story. she felt the eyes of the others drifting between the two, lilia’s bothered her the most. as if the woman knew something more. sure they knew of the rumored tales, what agatha had done to her coven but she heard jen too. that part was different. there was too much pain still there for her to even want to explain. not that she needed to.
feeling brown eyes brow into her, she pushed up and announced her need to give her legs a stretch and quickly made her exit. barely been slough time to herself to be able to take a deep breath before she hears leaves and twigs snapping under footsteps behind her. agatha knew it was her, none of the others would have followed her to check on her.
her eyes slipped closed the moment she felt gentle fingers on her back, brushing along her hair, moving to her bicep. she turned around with a soft moan and wasted no time pulling rio into her arms. agatha’s nose pressed into brown hair, covered in dirt and leaves. it felt like home, it was so naturally rio, even when she didn’t just climb out of the ground. her hand came up to tangle in the other’s hair, pulling her closer. a moment passed and she pulled back to really look at her former lover for the first time since they had summoned her. it had been to much, but she couldn’t stop the words she had heard uttered in other various ways from playing in her head. blue eyes gazed into brown, dipping to plump lips and back.

bleh, sorry i’ve disappeared into the abyss, i’ll be back soon! life is very much life-ing right now..
emma had hoped regina would take the hint and walk away - didn't the kid have school to get to? but no. clearly the newcomer had unsettled something in the ever-stoic mayor. the blonde pokes her tongue into the back of her teeth, "we can do that." if only to get away from prying eyes. other townspeople are staring now, probably because the last time she and regina had been in one place for too long -- "my car's over there." her expression only softens when she looks at henry, ruffling his hair. "have a good day, kid."
she leads cordelia to the bug and opens the door for her, motioning towards the passenger seat... mostly in case she were to pass out. "so. fountain in the woods?" she clears her throat and pulls off of main street. "i'm not gonna force you to see a doctor but... maybe you should?"
regina cleared her throat and nodded, her usual hard glare directed back to the blonde sheriff. "i'll be checking in." the boy smiled and wrapped an arm around emma's waist. "see ya later, emma!" delia smiled at the interaction, although confused as to why emma's son called her by her first name.
as they approached emma's car, she couldn't help but appreciate the older model bug. the yellow was interesting, but somehow fitting to the stranger. "thank you," she slipped into the car and sighed as emma slid in next to her. "yeah, i appreciate that. i swear i'm not crazy." she furrowed her brows as they moved down what she chalked up to be the main strip of town. this place looked like it was stuck in the 80's. "the adrenaline wore off three quarters through my walk to town. i'd feel something broken."
turning back to emma she nodded. "okay so get this, i'm enjoying the last few hours i have in italy, literally walking from breakfast with a friend. and i stop by the trevi, haven't been having a lot of luck in love lately so yanno, toss a coin in.. make a wish." it did sound crazy when she voiced it, she had heard a lot of wild stroies, met many many interesting people. but what happened almost seemed like magic, as if she was reading some fantasy novel. "then i was literally sucked into god knows what and thrown from your freaking wishing well in the middle of the woods. and now i'm here, with you." she sat back in her seat, emma seemed level headed, not just appeasing her before shes sectioned at the nearest psych ward. not too quick to judge, more logical than most of her clients. " if we can find my phone, like i said i took pictures, i can prove to you i was at the trevi fountain in italy like two hours ago, now."
" where you go, i follow. " ---- @lcveisweakness
it's strange to know in her gut that regina means that -- that she's not tossing out empty promises &* half-assed attempts at kindness. THERE'S NO FACADE COVERING THIS. it eases the tension from the savior's shoulders as she nods &* swallows the anxiety that has lodged in her throat. ❛ i can't do this without you. i'm trusting you to have my back. ❜
steady brown eyes met green, "we'll do it together, just like everything else." she assured. "i trust you to get us home to henry." regina swallowed down all her self doubts and hesitations. emma looked genuinely scared they might not make it out, they were both strong. but, she knew they had always been stronger when they worked together, from the start. it was first proved to her years ago, when emma jump started her magic the first time she tried to get hatter's hat portal to work. she held out her hand, "are you ready, emma?"
Regina had exited her car and had taken a couple steps toward the Mayor's office when someone unfamiliar called to her. She turned, taking in the man curiously. He was definitely new to Storybrooke, meaning he hadn't returned with them from the last curse, but an entirely new person from this time and this time alone. She looked him up and down curiously. He was tall with long hair that he kept in a what could only be described as a bun, but not the type that women wore. It was ridiculous looking, but the man himself was nice looking.
She listened to his concerns and fears of being unfamiliar with his new way of life. She instructed him to check in with Granny at the diner as she was helping the newcomers find jobs and ways to occupy their time and to help them look for anyone they might have become separated from. From what she undersood, he was alone and had been most of his life. She tried to remember if Henry's storybook had a character like him, but she was drawing a blank.
It was then that Regina saw Emma approaching. Her heart skipped a couple beats. These feelings had been growing since before they had returned to the Enchanted Forest, and she had pushed them away once they'd been separated for what seemed like would be forever, but now that they were back, the feelings had returned full of vengenance. They were desperate to be known. She held them back, knowing that it would never work, that Emma would never be interested in her like that. She was the Evil Queen after all.
"This is…Peter." She hadn't caught his last name so she didn't introduce him any further than that. "He didn't come over when I enacted the last curse so he's new here. Told him Granny was in charge of helping newcomers find their new roles here in Storybrooke." She smiled sweetly at the man, placing her hand on his arm to hopefully give him a warm welcome.
She was desperate to ask about Henry, but she wouldn't do so in front of strangers. She couldn't have a stranger informing him of his lack of memories about her and the others. She didn't know how he would handle it as his memories had been completely erased and replaced with happy memories of his life with Emma as if she had never given him up for adoption.
Peter nodded a greeting to Emma, excusing himself, but not before saying, "Maybe we can get a drink sometime, Madam Mayor." He gave her a soft smile with a hopeful look in his eyes before he stepped away from the two women with a wave to them both.
Regina felt her cheeks flush with heat. She didn't give acknowledgement one way or the other. She didn't have time for love and all that nonsense. They had to figure out why they were back, and why they couldn't remember the last year of their lives. "How's Henry?" she asked as soon as the man was out of earshot.
emma caught every smile, and glance between the two. trying hard not to roll her eyes at the man, peter. peter seemed smitten with the mayor. she nodded along, her eyes falling to regina's hand on the man's arm. maybe, the mayor was smitten as well, or maybe she was just jealous. "yeah, granny is all the help you need. i'm sure ruby can be some help too." hoping she came off as the kind town sheriff.
she had to suppress her scoff at the blatant question of a date with the mayor. and further suppress the red eyed monster swirling in her stomach. it had been a long time since she realized she had developed real feelings for regina. the fear of losing her family, and their friendship.. emma hadn't said anything. she didn't want to ruin anything more than she already felt she had. a few of henry's questions about the town and regina had stumped emma, especially the questions about regina and emma's friendship. god, she wished he could remember.
taking a breath as peter walked off, she turned to regina. "he's alright, keeps asking me questions.." she dug her heel in the ground and shrugged. "he thinks this place is 'culty'." she quoted her son and chuckled, "when henry brought me here, before i knew-- i thought the same."

arizona rolled her eyes and chuckled, "well first of all, let's take 'pity' out of the title." she reached for a cheese puff. "and no sad movies, i will cry and i promise, you don't wanna deal with that. funny movies." the blonde joked, "oh! let's play a game!"

regina watched on as her family and townspeople once again celebrated their victory. she nodded, her brown eyes glancing at emma. "are we admitting it, now?" she meant it to sound teasing, playful, but it sounded knowing. and she had, her and emma were similar in many ways, and other ways not. but the brunette had learned to love and accept those similarities. in the beginning it was strictly for her son, then their friendship blossomed. she had always felt heard and understood with emma. a feeling that had more recently grown and crept into dangerous territory. she was running from it, she denied and pushed it aside. "i couldn't have done any of it without you." her eyes moved back to henry.
"o-kay." being a fancy lawyer would excuse the surprisingly chic outfit at 7am... but nothing else. "emma." she offers out a hand despite her reservations. "pretty good handshake for a lawyer," she jokes lightly, glancing down the street as if hoping someone would come by and realise their ward had slipped away so she wouldn't have to deal with this today. "you're in storybrooke. maine. long way from new york. even longer from - italy, right?"
she tilts her head. "c'mon. i'll drive you to the clinic. you can fill me in on what you remember." realising there was no way out of this, she offers a warm smile. this woman certainly believed the story she was telling; but that could mean nothing.
delia could still here the unconvinced tone in the blonde's voice as they shook hands. "in my line of work emma, especially being a woman, a firm handshake is very important." she smiled, the brunette seemed to snap out of her thoughts then and extended her own hand, "mayor, regina mills." the smile on delia's face brightened and she took the offered hand and shook it much gentler than emma's.
"pleasure to meet you, madam mayor." the mayor was gorgeous to say the least. "oh, please call me regina." the brunette's cheeks went slightly pink as she shook the stranger's hand. cordelia's eyes trailed the designer outfit, she was impressed, this small town seemed-- "storybrooke, huh?" hazel eyes moved back to emma, the boy next to her look as if he had just won the lottery. odd.. softly letting the mayor's hand go. realizing she had taken a picture earlier in the day at the cafe. her purse with her phone inside had been over her shoulder at the trevi fountain, now after her tumble out of the well, she was empty handed. groaning, she nodded. "well, if i could find my phone i could show you, timestamped and dated pictures." the lawyer mode kicked in, she was not crazy. "it must be at the well i didn't even think about it when i--" she looked at the kid and back to emma. "maybe we should discuss this-- not in front of your son? i also don’t need medical attention. i much rather find my phone to show you, so if you could point me back in that direction?”
“this is how you wanted me to find out?” From Emma to Regina :)
eyes downcast, she shook her head. "i never thought you would, to be quite honest." she could bear to look up, knowing she'd see such pain in the blonde's eyes. "please, emma you have to understand.. i didn't think you would ever--could ever" she sighed and looked up, tears silently rolling down her cheeks, "you had hook, you seemed happy with that."
