just got hit with a flashback of some of the tvl writers (?) saying in that one written interview that this season is for those who might've not vibed with s1 and s2 and then you have the producers and writers basically calling s1&2 a boring snooze fest and at the time i thought these were incredibly odd and tone deaf things to say and an odd way to promote your upcoming season (by shitting on your previous work... not to comment on how we were going from a show lead by characters of colour to it being lead by a white character) BUT now with the way louis's s3 plotline ended up being used to humiliate, humble, brutalise him while absolving lestat and retconning some of the things he did to their BLACK daughter it's just so ???? this is such a bad look.

S1 & 2 have louclaudia suffering and going through it and they come together to kill their abuser and they made it out only to get tangled in a web again and now louis loses everything, spirals and is abused by armand for years, but once again he somehow picked up all of the shattered and fractured pieces of his life and with the help of daniel (ofc), he makes his peace with his vampirism and his life and of course everything wasn't perfect but his story to me had strong tones of perseverance, he was starting a new chapter, living his life for himself again while obviously still being tormented by the loss of his daughter (Claudia)

NOW we have s3...We see louis is doing well, still in contact with lestat before the reveal of the book (😞) he has a bf (kinda) and things are sort of going well for him and then obviously things go downhill and we slowly see things getting worse for him (the whole regina plot) and things keep getting even more worse for him and it ends up with him being called nappy headed, a perpetual slave and well then consequently beheaded, branded, tortured and emotionally manipulated into apologising to his abuser while lestats on a journey of forgiveness and love (irgt that whole..paul...thing....)

So now while i don't actually think this is what they meant, i feel so incredibly icky about the writers saying the season where louis is tormented, abused and experiences antiblack language on a whole other level with no end in sight while this level of energy isn't reserved for anyone BUT the black characters might be more enjoyable for watchers that didn't like s1 & s2 idkkkkk

can someone pinch me and tell me if i'm doing too much because my stomach hasn't stopped hurting all night and now all day and i feel like i'm doing too much by feeling the way i do about this entire season and the attitude towards jacob/louis as a character from producers, writers and crew but i just i don't understand anything? i don't understand any of these choices? what is the point in bringing louis back for THIS? you should've let him quietly exist outside of all of this mess? i don't understand, you didn't need to do any of this and imo it doesn't make for good television either ffs

and you can tell the writers think they're smart as hell and somehow seeing someone that "others just don't see" but the thing everyone else is seeing is their obvious biases and anti-blackness, the writers room needs a wake up call so bad

Also, re Claudia saying she lied about Lestat’s rape comments — if we take that to be true, what are the writers saying actually happened? Claudia got on the train, tried to leave, and….? What? Like genuinely, why did she come back?

Did Lestat show up and threaten her DIFFERENTLY? Or did he not show up on the train at all? Are they saying her Evil Scheming Black Girl Mastermind plan was in action from way back when she was asking Louis to leave with her, and her whole departure and return was just a series of manipulative theatrics to poison Louis against Lestat? And this was her goal not because she hated Lestat but because she actually (checks notes) apparently preferred him, but found Louis easier to manipulate…??

Like… even if all this retconning wasn’t rooted in antiblackness and misogynoir (which it is), it’s also just terrible/absurd writing like where’s the logic ???? 🫠

I feel like this entire season has been giving off the vibe that Louis is the problem and has always been the problem.

I’ve been thinking about this tweet everyday since 3x06. It was posted before ep6 came out but still rings true.

Louis & Claudia portrayed in the worst light imaginable. Some of Lestat’s wrongs absolved or reframed as “less harsh” (no you don’t understand Antoinette cut off her own finger, no you don’t understand the queen’s blood makes it so he can’t “restrain” himself.) Antoinette being given more sympathy #justiceforantoinette. LouClaudia’s relationship, most especially Claudia, framed as the wedge between Loustat ala Adam O’Byrne referring to the seance as them “dealing with the problem” the problem being LouClaudia. Claudia framed as a cackling villain eager for their demise in both the coven’s and this season’s portrayal of her, as tho everything she did was just for evil’s sake.

The framing this season makes it seem like the problem with Loustat was Louclaudia and now that Claudia’s dead, it’s just Louis holding them back. And while Louis isn’t perfect and has had his toxic moments, this framing only makes sense if you viewed S1 Loustat as a “mutually abusive” relationship (which is not real!) or as Louis being the abuser in the relationship. And now that Louis has been humbled, ridiculed, and insulted by literally every main character this season, Loustat can be happy now. Louis just had to get over himself and get over Claudia.

I just have no idea how you can create two seasons of this character falling victim to several abusive relationships, and come out of them with this logic. It’s common knowledge that Louis (not Loustat, Louis as an individual) isn’t popular among the fandom or within the writer’s room, but there’s a difference between not liking him as much vs straight up hating him and their feelings are showing.

And the defense that this season is from Lestat’s POV so that’s why things are so biased doesn’t work because when the story was from Louis’ perspective, even when Loustat were at their all time lowest, Lestat wasn’t nearly as ridiculed or framed as horribly by the narrative.

Idk it’s just so bleak.

So i saw people on twitter talking about how louis has now been branded by armand after being called a slave in the last episode by claudia and someone also mentioned how in s1 louis talked about what happened to slaves that dared to escape from their masters and now we see him being tortured and forced to apologise by his abuser for that very same thing (daring to call armand out on his abusive bs a put an end to it)

Now, i'm not gonna say i expected louis' scenes this season to be all sunshine and roses, however, I can't lie and say that i'm not incredibly disappointed in the way his storyline seems to have regressed this season, after an ending like "i own the night" and after him trying to work through the tangle of memories that had been scrambled by armand and him trying to work through centuries of trauma, i knew claudia would still and will always be sore spot (despite how they had loustat acting after that one scene) but genuinely what is the purpose of all of this? they have had so many weird one liners about louis that are just giving anti-blackness and pair that with the way the crew, producers and writers have been talking about louis and the previous seasons it's not looking good at all (and it has BEEN not looking good)

That line about louis being a "perpetual slave" (or whatever) was really just the precursor to how they would be dealing with louis' character this season. All of this just feels incredibly cruel, you have a black character that is continuously being abused from before s1 started all the way to the end of s3? what is the point genuinely? vampirism was never going to save louis but what is the point of all of this? we see him trying to live and do the best with what he was giving in the era he was born in and all that he's gotten since is trauma and 5 seconds of happiness? i said it before and i'll say it again but with the way the crew and everyone has been acting this genuinely just feels like they're attacking louis and bringing his character down to humble him? (and jacob) and also in comparison to what lestat has going on why does he get excused for shit while louis is being villainised ? he's not innocent no, but the writers are doing too much imo...this is just so cruel and such a disheartening storyline for his character

I can't get over the misogyny of making it canon that Claudia claimed lestat threatened to rape her on the train, just to have that be a lie she told. They had a woman lie about a man sexually harassing her to ruin his image. It doesnt matter that her actions are justified in a watsonian reading. These are fictional characters who were designed to say and do these things. There is a vast history not only of women, but girls specifically being considered biologically predisposed to lie about rape, especially at the hands of their fathers. This show just cares so much about rape victims that they have to promote rape culture, eh?

if youre black and planned on watching the finale of tvl, don’t. they have the man who lynched Louis carve a branding onto him while his head is severed from his body. there is nothing to see but pure and plain hatred of black people, of louis and jacob especially. jacob is being publicly humiliated and paraded around like this is a slave auction by rolin jones and hannah moskovitch and amc all together and i can assure you I personally will never watch a single second of anything amc makes and this will go down in textbooks next to birth of a nation for graphic grotesque whitelash and punishment of black ppl for Black Lives Matter movement. don’t watch this and let the black people in your life know not to watch it either

the torture of louis in ep7 feels unnecessarily cruel and evil? the things they had armand doing to him and the things armand was saying to him just idk...? my tummy hurts so bad and see armand torturing louis is in line with the show version of him bc bookmand wouldn't do something like this to louis (AFAIK) and i just idk i enjoy certain aspects of his cruelty but it being louis that's bearing the brunt of armands madness rn is just :/ you had the opportunity to add louis to the show some more and you take this as an opportunity to just brutalise him some more after everything he's been through....my guy deserves a break
