The worst leaders ONLY know how to lead.
Developing an organizational legacy involves intergenerational success - success that is influenced, supported, and recognized/celebrated across generations of leaders. As much as the prowess and prominence of current leaders is important, so is the cultivation of future leaders, and the followership of past leaders. Ā The later of these considerations seems absent for organizational discourse (and maybe literature, though I havenāt checked). Older, tenured, or more seasoned leaders (Old-heads) need to recognize when its time to get out of driver seat, and sometimes out of the damn car altogether.Ā
This was a hard and ego-challenging lesson that I learned in my fraternity, and one of the most useful things I got of my entire experiences as a young leader.Ā

Be well traveled.
As I explore the U.S. (And the rest of the world) I've come to realize that being well traveled is fantastic for one's development. I think a lot of folks travel to say they travel and to raise their social profile (Not that I'm above passport stunting...) But... The sights, the silent reflection, the conversations with strangers, the exposure to different genres/modes/flavor of life, and the effect that that has on how I live mine is what makes every trip worthwhile. Being well traveled is less about where you "check-in and Instagram" and more about how you let the world change you, and how you subsequently change the world.
At work or whatever.

10-Year-Old Math Genius Studying for University DegreeĀ
On one hand, Esther Okade is like any other 10-year-old, crazy about Disneyās Frozen and playing with her dolls.
On the other hand, The Telegraph reports, this math genius is also studying to complete a math degree from Open University despite her young age.
According to the news site, Esther is one of the United Kingdomās youngest university students, and she is already at the top of the class after three weeks, getting a perfect score on one recent test.
Apparently the math-whiz gene runs in Estherās family: Her 6-year-old brother, Isaiah, is also showing his own genius in high-school-level math.
"Isaiah is following in his sisterās footsteps. He is doing calculus and advanced algebra," Estherās mother, Efe, told The Telegraph. "Even when he was in my tummy, Esther was already teaching him."
Her mother said that enrolling a 10-year-old into university was āan interesting process.ā
"After [the university] interviewed her, they realized that this has been her idea from the beginning," Efe told The Telegraph.
"From the age of 7, Esther has wanted to go to university. ⦠But I was afraid it was too soon," the mother said of her precocious child. "She would say, āMum, when am I starting?ā and go on and on and on. ⦠Finally, after three years she told me, āMum I think it is about time I started university now.ā "
So her mother relented, and after applying, conducting a phone interview, writing an essay and taking a math exam, Esther was accepted into the course.
"She was flying," her mother told the news site. "She was so happy."
"Esther talks about running her own bank one day," added her mom. "She has a lot of plans and talks a lot about finances. ⦠She says she wants to be a millionaire."

Stress and Politics
Stop avoiding these. People at work convince themselves that an ideal work environment is free of both.
Lies.
Life, nor work, will in the foreseeable future be free of either.
The (my) reality. 1) Stress can be positive/motivating or negative/debilitating. Instead of hoping for a stress free existence, your energy is better spent learning how to harness and use positive stress and avoid or relieve the negative. 2) Everyone has an agenda. Avoiding having an agenda, is an agenda. Here your energy is better spent being thoughtful and intentional in setting your own agenda, and being conscious of others'.
The (my) upside. The more you embrace stress and practice politics the better you get at discerning each.

Just discovered this documentary series on netflix. SO GOOD!
A comprehensive exploration of the influence of the African Diaspora (Slave Trade) in Latin America. The influence on religion, culture, music, food, etc is awesome. The parallel histories of slavery and genocide is astounding. The histories of revolution and leadership is empowering. The remaining racism and colorism is unsettling.
This definitely helped me see relevance and importance of critical global perspectives on Black/African Heritage.Ā

I was home alone. The house was quiet. This has become an unfamiliar sound, but one that I realized Iāve missed tremendously. I slipped into a vegetative state.
Unable to move, I sat and watched time. Feeling so much joy in my solitude, I decided to sip a drinkā¦then listen to music, then wash a load of clothes, then I got dressed.
Iām wearing something new. People keep asking me where am I going after work. My only reply is, āhome.ā But internally Iām saying, āitās not about what Iām doing after work, itās where I am now⦠Mentally.ā Iām somewhere in paradise. Probably on my own island. Either way, itās my world and Iām the boss.
