Ink Cage
Like a secret I can't wait to tell,
my fluid strokes of ink across the page
Collecting images words phrases
from the many muses of the moment
Holding the tension between waiting and reaching,
eyes open, seeing the subtle
Caging the overlooked from my perspective
I only ever pray(ed) to recognize truth...
...our consciousness rose from the unconscious
...we are stardust and earth and yet we are aware
...the magic of being is inside us, immanent, not transcendent in an other-dimensional heaven
...and no one, nothing, can give or take away our inherent value as living beings

our connection to the earth shall be steady and joyful
sthira sukham asanam
A tongue but with carefully crafted words (homage to you, Six)
She has the privilege of an easy smile and laugh lines deeper than worry wrinkles.
Desire-laced lust runs through her veins, full of want; and thus, perpetually empty.
Seductress-sprinked kisses like fickle freckles on her skin.
Eyes enticing followers, all the while lost inside herself.
Words were originally magic and she was their priestess.
Whisper-worded shouts weaving spells, binding others in the mirage of their own making.
A tongue with but carefully crafted words creating the illusion of choice for those that would be foolish enough to think they could tame her.
Violin Femmes
Fragments of notes bouncing off the concrete walls
adding the perfect fractured soundtrack to the under belly of the rat race.
Rounding the corner of my home stretch, sound transforms to sight.
Bright reds and purples spread outside the lines of lips and eyelids by all the sweat and spit
conjured by the furious attack of bow on string accompanying the bright splashes of note after note.
The high-heel-stomped backbeat punctuates the difference between violent and violin as the whole show rouses nothing but an eyebrow or two and a tourist’s gawk in a city that has seen it all before.
six word poem 4/26
Prompt: “Your work is spellbinding, Six. If it wouldn’t trouble you much, would you please pen a poem about the scope of the Earth. About how we’re all different, yet inherently the same in a biological sense.”
Forty-six chromosomes spawned seven billion misfits
ants go marching...
And I notice you.
I walk past you underground between the L and the 2/3,
and I catch a whiff of your clove cigarette and your shit-eating grin.
And through that stench of sweet and dirty, I notice you –
all wrapped up, snug in the smugness that can only come from naivety.
Though our elbows touched and we shared rain drops,
you don’t know I exist.
Much less that I sit here noticing you, summing up your parts,
and drawing conclusions with my pen.
Poignant essay on finding freedom by releasing into each moment -- the pleasant, the painful, and the neutral.
"I have often said that yoga is meditation, and meditation is yoga. Meditation is the stilling of the movements of consciousness. It's bringing the turbulent sea to a state of flat calm. This calm is not torpid or inert. It is a deep tranquility, pregnant with all the potential of creation...
The yogi is journeying...away from the world of things and events, which are so joyful, painful, baffling, and unending, back to the point of stillness before the waves were ruffled.
This is because [s]he wants to answer the question, 'Who am I?' [S]he hopes that if [s]he can find that out, [s]he will be able to answer the question, 'What is the source of Being?'
...Find the sun, says yoga, discover the Soul"
-Iyengar
The ability to control the breath at-will is the ability to access your soul at-will.
"Nothing penetrates deeper than breath or is more pervasive."

Chitta Vritti Narodha
Chitta Vritti Narodha: Ceasing the fluctuations of the mind - Patanjali. Yoga Sutras 1.1
Through Dharana, we practice exerting our will over our mind. Dharana is the act of taming the mind, and it is how we learn to recognize that our thoughts do not control us, but we control our thoughts.
From the mind-focus learned through Dharaha, we enter meditation. When entering meditation, we often begin by bringing our awareness to our breath. Practiced simply by closing our eyes, letting go of our thoughts, focusing on the breath. When the mind is still, we have crossed the threshold. That is meditation.
