[…] The idea that you can’t live without someone makes the weight that that person has to carry weigh too much to carry. So sometimes the only way to really know that you’re really loving somebody is to know, ‘Yeah, I don’t need you to live but I choose you anyway.’ Because that’s what the real love is. Real love is when you are whole in yourself because you know who you are and yet you still choose to love somebody. And they choose to love you. That’s true love. That’s how God loves us. Do you think he needs us? He’s perfect, he doesn’t need us. But you know what? He chooses us anyway; he loves us anyway. And that’s what true love is. And the thing is that when you have a choice that somebody can leave—you have to have that choice or it’s not true either. You have to have the freedom to choose. And that’s what God gives you. Because you have freedom to choose. This is, ‘I want your love, I want you to choose me. But you’ll have a period of time when you get to choose for yourself because that’s true love.’ And he says, ‘Oh, please, choose life so you can live, I’m life, out there’s no life outside of me.’
