The entirety of the Apollo 11 mission took up less computer storage and computation space than a single instance of Microsoft Outlook running in the background.
this is among the worst possible PR for microsoft. outlook is so shit that it fucked with the billion dollar space computer
And I think that’s beautiful
Actually what was everyone's favorite recess activity it reveals so much about your character
The tags and replies to this are actually so cute let's all have recess together
every other week, my mom would make a giant pot of vegetable soup. she'd pack half of it in a tupperware and take it to her best friend's house. they both had three kids whose ages aligned. they'd lock us out of the house and go through each room, finding every piece of dirty laundry and then spend the afternoon keeping the washer and dryer running, folding and putting away each load while gossiping.
every alternate week, her best friend would come to our house with a tupperware full of chicken spaghetti. they'd stick us in front of a tv with a stack of disney vhs tapes and go through each room, finding every dirty dish, and then spend the afternoon at the kitchen sink, washing each dish by hand while gossiping.
it wasn't always soup and spaghetti and laundry and dishes. but it was almost always a meal and a chore. here is a night you don't have to cook dinner. here is a chore you can cross off your list. and here is a day you don't have to spend alone. because really food and friendship and a feeling of accomplishment are what we all need most.
this wasn't a quote from a real PDF btw I just thought it would be funny to tex this up so it looked like one instead of posting it directly
the next evolution of Tumblr shitposting is looking promising
believe it or not there is an xkcd for this
is this code correct? no, but is it fast? also no, but is it elegant and simple to understand? nope, is it at least useful for a practical purpose, sadly no
Eh, it compiles. Ship it
*hides benign thing I was looking at on the computer when someone enters the room as if it were something nefarious or inappropriate*
If Tumblr shuts down, we should all move to github. We can make github pages and fork each others' repos as an alternative to reblogging.

BRB gonna invent hypercube C
It's a time-agnostic programming language
You can run code last week
WHEN DID THIS POST GET 400 NOTES WHAT??????
The integer type has no overflow and the floating point type has infinite precision with decidable equality. There's a Fork() function which creates parallel universes over which it distributes computation. Every primitive recursive function terminates instantly.
Who let the mathematicians into the computers again?
Thank you Wolfram|Alpha, this is the worst unit of length I’ve ever seen

pet peeve: if it doesn’t have unbounded memory it’s not a turing machine, it’s just a sparkling finite automaton
PhD dissertations are hard. Gotta get my dopamine boost somehow!
I think it's a bit worse actually. And we know this, at least subconsciously if not consciously.
It's that, if there are benefits to AI in my coffee maker, it's not for me.
There's plenty of nuance to stuff like this but I think what a lot of people are missing is "AI features" doesn't necessarily mean an LLM is controlling your coffee intake. The "AI" parts could just rebranded "smart" devices or other modern features we already take for granted, like the coffee machine recognizing how much water you've poured into it so it doesn't burn the bottom, or a washing machine that can sense moisture and run the cycle for a bit longer to ensure your clothes are dry. These are all "AI" features they just didn't used to be labelled like that.
So yeah, you probably do want AI in your coffee maker, even if you don't want it to be able to converse with you like an LLM or voice agent. Blanket swearing off all "AI" will require you to get rid of all your modern "smart sensing" appliances and travel back in time to before Siri or even Google Translate. Or being able to deposit checks digitally. Or the spam filter on your email inbox.
People need to learn what "AI" actually means before assuming it's bad in 100% of cases.
