Best App For Thai So Far
Recently I decided to start dabbling in Thai for fun. So I went to my regular favorite apps for it and found them lacking in quality. Which has caused me to struggle with learning how to read more than I’m used to. However! After trying this app out for a bit I realized that it solves my problem pretty easily. I struggle to figure out how to use Quizlet properly, so I’m glad I found this:
Download Write It! Thai by Jernung on the App Store. See screenshots, ratings and reviews, user tips, and more apps like Write It! Thai.
It does literally everything I needed from it. This paired with Banana Thai on YouTube and possibly Lingodeer is definitely going to make this process so much easier for me. Considering it’s only $7.00 for the app I was happy to pay for it. I hate subscription services, so the fact that this is just one payment is super nice.
I know I could find it use other resources for free, but my rule for language learning is to always try to support teachers and the community who speaks the language whenever possible. I don’t want to be a leach, but since I’m scared of people this is the best I can do for them.

Does anyone know what the character on the back of his hand means?
I tried to look it up by myself, but I don’t have much experience with hanja since that’s not something I’m normally work with.
Okay I went to the source video and found this comment:
Which basically explains exactly which character it is and what it means.
“@kdidkxkcc2240 1:07 This refers to the Chinese character 灼 (‘to blaze/to burn’), a character that carries the meanings of ‘to burn,’ ‘to set on fire,’ ‘to shine,’ and ‘to be bright.’”
I’m hoping this is an accurate translation, but I can’t be sure.
Here’s an article I found that might back it up. I’m not sure where I’d find a more respectable source for this kind of information, so I’m stuck with Namu Wiki for now.
灼은 '불사를 작 '이라는 한자 로, '불사르다'를 뜻한다. 상세 뜻을 나타내는 火 (불 화)와 음을 나타내는
For those who might be looking for some easy material to practice their listening skills.

“I wanna learn Chinese!”

Is it just me or does the Thai writing system look super cute?
I saw someone’s handwriting in it recently and the way their sentences looked was really pretty. I can’t read it, so my opinion here is based purely off of an outsider’s point of view.
i really think learning languages is like. good for your soul. net positive.
A Short Story
Social Anxiety
Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go “really? That’s so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"
One day you think: I want to die. And then you think, very quietly, actually I want a coffee. I want a nap. A sandwich. A book. And I want to die turns day by day into I want to go home, I want to walk in the woods, I want to see my friends, I want to sit in the sun. I want a cleaner room, I want a better job, I want to live somewhere else, I want to live.
Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.
my friend and i were going to study a language together and wound up having to cancel our plans due to scheduling pressures, but! through research we came across a really cool resource for reading in a TON of languages: bloom library!
as you can see, it has a lot of books for languages that are usually a bit harder to find materials for—we were going to use it for kyrgyz, for example, which has over 1000 books, which was really hard to find textbook materials for otherwise. as you can see it also has books with audio options, which would be really useful for pronunciation checking. as far as i can tell, everything on the site is free as well.
Sentence Mining

Linked above is the thing I’m making in Notion to help me and hopefully other people find videos that they can sentence mine easily.
