is when people confuse the āhabitual beā and the ācopula be.ā
The āhabitual beā connotes something that the subject does often; or something that she or he is known for doing. For example:
She be lyinā He be in that store everyday We be doinā our homework I be dancinā
The ācopula beā in Ebonics is almost never present. The copula is the manifestation of the verb āto be.ā In Ebonics, we have what is known as the zero copula.
Before joining tumblr I actually thought that AAVE speakers just use ābeā whenever standard-English speakers use āis.ā which is ridiculous, but apparently every white person appropriating AAVE (at least every one Iāve heard) thinks the same thing.Ā
