We all Remember our first day within the hi-vis manual operative crew. The start of your first long shift.. 6 days a week doing 12 hour shifts and being kept under strict control enforced by 24/7 supervision of your superiors.

You start the day gearing up in your brand new issued hi-vis uniform, which should always be worn with pride at all times. You notice the huge company logo and your operative number pressed in a thick bold font on the back of your crewneck and jacket.

When you step out of the dressing room you noticed that you look almost exactly like all the other operatives. Though there is one big difference….. your the only one in a brand new clean hi-vis uniform. You feel a bit embarrassed cause it clearly shows that you don’t fit in just yet……

Even though you just got the gear on you already start to hate it. You totally realize that this is the only gear you will wear for the next 6 days, 24/7.

You spot a few other lads walking towards a series of portacabins next to a warehouse full of wash bays. All of them got the same short hairstyle and all dressed in the same uniform as you. Without realizing it the Gaffer is already standing next to you with a pair of clippers. He makes clear that due the severe dirty working conditions its extremely important to maintain the required haircut just like all the other operatives. Before you can even refuse he already turned the clippers on and ran them roughly over your head.

Now its time to show how proud you really are. The next month you will be part of waste-disposal department. The best way of getting your uniform worn in nicely. And the best part of this crew? You will be able to show your new status to the whole city ! Your new life completely exposed to everyone you knew from your previous life. We all know that feeling. Being so ashamed and afraid of bumping into one of your former colleagues, lovers, family or even worse former classmates. Nobody will never ever see you as equal anymore. Everyone clearly sees that you have to wear full head to toe hi-vis uniform issued by your superior. Which means your nothing more then just another workie.

But don’t worry! Soon you will accept your new status. After a few 12 hour shifts your uniform will be as dirty as the other lads. You will finally become exactly like them.

You start to realize you were meant to be a workie from a very early age. Hiviz and workboots are the only type of clothing where you actually are able to feel good in.

Made to work, to obey, to carry out every single order your superior gives you. EVERY single of them. You are finally at the bottom of the food chain. And you wouldn’t wish it any other way.
