David laughed, nodding slightly. “They really are. I absolutely adore them, and they get the best possible care I can give,” he said, smiling as he continued up, passing his flat before he opened up the door to the garden, revealing the little oasis of green within the desert.
“Oh, and Barnabee? No, he’s a robot. There was a long period of time in which I wasn’t good with people, and so in an effort to ensure that I could work effectively, I was given several robots to work with me, and Barnabee takes care of me and feeds me.”
The splash of green was awe inspiring. When was the last time she saw something so lush? She had almost gotten used to the xeriscape of the desert community. All she could mutter was ‘wow’ as she walked in. She set the carrier on the ground to allow Argon to take a few good sniffs of the area. “Robots? You know, before I came here to work for Strex, I didn’t know robots were a real thing. I heard of them, but they were always failures. Here, even the security are robotic and they look like us!” She grinned and glanced around a little more to take in the atmosphere.
David grinned as he looked at her, seeing her reaction to his little oasis, and he nodded slightly, closing the door behind them and offering his hand to Argon for a moment before looking over as his two little kittens came tumbling out of some bushes, play fighting and tumbling over each other before spotting the newcomer and padding over to meet their new friend.
“Yeah, robots. It’s pretty amazing, especially in just the years that I’ve been here,” he said, trying not to linger too much on whether or not he knew about robots before he came to Desert Bluffs, if he even did come from outside the area. “But feel free to look around my garden. The gazebo’s just over there, and we’ve got some fruit trees and bushes and a little vegetable garden on the other side of the building,” he said, smiling brightly to her as he pointed out the paths that would take her to the respective areas. “And bees. I have proper bees as well up here.”
Argon was hesitant at first, but one sniff and he immediately rubbed his scent all over the hand offered to him. He seemed to visibly sigh at the sight of the two kittens bounding to him. The entire area was too perfect. She looked around and noticed the kittens headed their way, then glanced down the paths to see what was pointed out. “Wow…. self sustaining?” He did notice some bees working hard on the flowering plants. “Bumbles? Harmless right?”
David smiled as his kittens seemed to enjoy Argon, already starting to introduce themselves to him, and David stood back up as he glanced around his little garden, nodding slightly.
“Honey, actually, but just as harmless since I make sure that they aren’t too aggressive and they tend to leave you alone if you don’t bother them too much,” he said before smiling brighter. “And it’s not quite self sustaining, but it’s about as close as I can get it out here,” he added with a shrug. “I’m rather fond of it.”
