“You’re really good at playing that.”
“Yeah, I’m really glad too. The…circumstances weren’t the best, but I think this’ll be better in the long run. I am glad that there are some other kids around here now - that was one of my biggest fears about moving him here before. Didn’t know if he’d have friends his own age and all.”
“Well now you don’t have to worry about that. Does this mean you’ll be moving to New Athens when the time comes? It’d be nice to have a friendly face around when I do that too.”
“Ben? Ben’s fine, he’s excited to be here all the time now. It’s, um, weird to know that this is permenant and I don’t have to say goodbye…but he’s doing fine.”
“He’s staying with you permanently?” Leda smiled widely at the new information. “That’s so great! For both of you, I’m really glad things worked out so you don’t have to say goodbye. Helen will be so excited to have a friend here all the time.”
“Sorry, ya need me? Anythin’ broken?”
“Nothing broken, I was actually wondering how good you were with shields? I’m not big on offense but I want a good strong defense.”
“–I mean… I can play guitar ‘nd all… I’m not nearly as good as some of my siblings. But at least I’m better at this than healing, so..”
“Does it matter if you’re good at healing or not? It’s not like you have to define yourself by what your dad’s good at.”
“Your charmspeak won’t work on huntresses. –Got you, I’ll just..” He leaned down to the papers and scratched out Leda’s name before rolling up the parchment then passed it to a camper who would take it to other strategists. “Yeah, she just arrived. Only three months now. She’s called Kyra.”
“I don’t have charmspeak,” she looked at him quizzically and laughed. “My daughter’s Helen. How old is Kyra? Did you know she was coming?”
“No, I had none. Daddy got married, but he hasn’t had any kids with her. She cheated on him and now they’re divorced. I didn’t like her that much anyway. He’s single now. I missed out! But now I’ve got all this camp to keep me company so that’s really cool.” Ana smiled brightly, “We should watch that film together. I’ll bring the popcorn. I like sugared. How do you take it?”
“Exactly why my mom never got married, which is weird for a wedding planner I guess. But yeah, don’t worry about it, everyone’s like family here. Until people start dating, then you forget about that part,” she laughed. “Sounds fun! I like popcorn any way, caramel’s my favourite though.”
“Gosh, kids are the best. I never had siblings, so I’m really excited now! There are more? I’m gonna order some cookies and I’m gonna just sit and cuddle them all.” Bouncing on her feet, the girl beamed up at Leda, “Ah, thank you. I really like your name, it’s so cute. –Oh! Yeah, I saw that movie when I was little. I always liked the song. The December song.”
“I’m sure you’ll get more siblings popping out over time,” she chuckled at Anastasia’s excitement. “Helen loves that one too. So you didn’t have any half siblings or step-siblings back home? I always thought I might one day, but my mom was never the marriage type.”
“Well, how else am I gonna get results?” Anastasia smiled brightly, before nodding, “You have a daughter? Oh, that’s so cuuute. Can I meet her? I love kids. I love, love, love ‘em. I don’t see them often!” Pausing, the blonde nodded again, “I think so. I never really paid too much attention to my name. It’s pretty though, so I don’t mind it.”
“I can’t argue with that. Of course you can meet her! She loves meeting people, I want her to know as many demigods as possible. There’s actually a handful of us here with kids now, so I bet you’ll see them more often.” Leda smiled and nodded. “It really is pretty, I heard it and I think of the last Russian Grand Duchess or that animated movie they did.”
“Eros? That’s awesome. You must get loadsa girl’s numbers, then, right? Add mine to the pile.” Pulling a pink-ink pen from behind her ear, Ana leaned over and grasped Leda’s hand, gently scrawling her phone number, “You’re really cute~. I will later. I’m Anastasia, but Ana’s cool too.”
“Damn girl, you really go for it huh?” Leda chuckled, impressed. “I won’t lie, I’ve gotten a good amount of numbers from guys and girls, I wouldn’t exactly have my daughter otherwise. It’s nice to meet you, Ana. I’m Leda, going to take a wild guess that we were both named after royalty?”
“Helloooo~. I’ve just set up in my cabin. Can you tell me where I get to choose my pretty little weapon?”
“Peitho cabin? Nice, I’m Eros myself. Been thinking we should start a love gods club with so many of us here. Honestly I’m not big on weapons, but I bet someone else knows.”
effieforpresident:
“My parents do not define me. Peitho is seduction, but she is also persuasion, which I exercise regularly. Besides, love comes in many forms, and I do not experience it sexuall or romantically.” But where there might have been bite and malice before, there was just explanation and understanding.
“Aaaah, right. So you wouldn’t miss romance and sex either way then. Aren’t you the political one? How are you going to do all that if you’re a teenager for the rest of your life?”
effieforpresident:
“We are practically cousins; Peitho is a love goddess, after all.” And it was a shame that she wouldn’t get to properly know the daughter of Eros, but this…this was more important. “Though I’ve been told that immortality does that to a person.”
“You joined the Hunt? But...you’re a love god kid, doesn’t that conflict with who you are?” she asked with genuine curiosity.
effieforpresident:
“Well, I suppose that is that,” Effie murmured to herself, looking at the bag she’d packed. Already, she had calmed down. Already, she seemed to glow. Already, the Hunt had taken its effects on her. “Hm? Did you need something?” she asked, looking up at the person who came into her room.
Leda walked in and looked around. “Listen, I know we haven’t really met, but I’ve seen you around before. You look...different.”
“Look. You sound real fuckin’ stupid right now. Just. Shut up, and let me talk you through your placement in this game. I’ve got a kid to look after. So just listen, unless you want your ass kicked by my cousins. Huntresses are badass, and you don’t have me fighting for you today.”
“Can I say I’m a lover, not a fighter? I don’t know why I bothered playing today, so don’t worry, I’m out. My head can’t be in it when I’m just thinking of my little girl anyways. Didn’t realize you had a kid too.”
watryxshka:
“He keeps things interesting, that’s for sure. Pretty must run in the family, Eros girls are too.”
“I can see that Apollo guys are charming too, or is that just you? You also have really great concentration to keep juggling like that.”
“I’ve grown up knowing that you put as much of your private life out there as you feel comfortable with.”
