You know that they should have gone with Henderhop from the start because if El was Dustin's girlfriend, he would not accept the whole 'oh yeah she is in a magical place with three waterfalls, no we can never see her again, yeah so sad.' He would work his ass off to figure out where she was hiding and try to find her.
and he would've said "i love you" when she was literally dying 😭
for the sake of future LGTBQ+ stories and representation, please please please change the low IMDB rating you left for episode 7.
there’s no nuance with numbers like these, your one star rating will be received the exact same as a homophobe’s.
i went back and rated the episode ten stars, despite my many issues with it!
episode seven gets ten stars and episode eight gets one!!
When I see a take so bad I genuinely consider leaving the fandom
except the take is the actual finale that the actual creators made
i think we'd all have a lot less byler doubt right now if we just remembered how gay mike acted for literally all of season 4
like he literally did and for why
s5 really felt like
volume 1: go white boy go
volume 2: no white boy not like that
volume 3: white boy i've never seen anyone fuck it up like that
they held onto byler like it was a secret that needed to be kept under lock and key btw. if it wasn’t bait then why the fuck did you keep trying make the fandom second guess what was gonna happen with byler?
it could have been so easy to clarify “oh shit no mike and el are still together for sure. sorry for the confusion, no byler.” but they held onto it for the “shock factor” and to keep people on their toes but it just made everyone mad and it was the most predictable, conformitive ending possible.
like if it’s not a twist why are you trying to make it seem like there’s some fucking twist there was NEVER a twist ANYWHERE????? that’s goddamn queerbait!!
“friends? no.”
longest pause ever
“best friends.”
that is genuinely the equivalent of dangling a fucking carrot on a string over a bunch of queer kids and luring them into a hole filled with spikes.
it would have been so weird to suddenly flip that conversation to be romantic and so like we KNEW that it wasn’t gonna be like a confession. mike isn’t that confident, he’s too closeted, and there were a bunch of other people on their way up the tower
but the issue is that they intentionally teased byler with that line. they knew what people expected, they knew what people were hoping, and they still wrote that baitey ass shit. it would be wild to have it be anything romantic by that point, they had already massacred mikes character, but it was a clear and intentional reference to byler and then a quick shutdown immediately after
that was the duffers finally saying “no byler” despite holding onto this queerbait for years and treating mike, will, and el like it’s a goddamn love triangle. they could have shut down the hopes for canon byler ages ago and we would have moved on with our crack ship. but was intentionally done and it was intentional queerbait. they strung us along for… what money? attention? did they just wanna be shitty for fun??? lmao
crack ships do just fine without canon potential. we didn’t need them canon to stay invested for the final season ya know… just like elmax, ronance, steddie, and stonathan shippers, but you did it anyway and that’s queerbait. that’s TEXTBOOK queerbait
mike wheeler becoming exactly like his dad is just sad. he never wanted to conform, never wanted to be a part of the system and yet he’s been shoved into a box and forced to play a role that was never meant for him.
When people are complaining about Mike being unresponsive in s5 vol2 but this was literally him in every other season
He's always repressed his emotions and it's lowkey part of his character.
and now it's all he will ever do
Joe Keerey carried more emotional weight than Finn Wolfhard this season
And he plays STEVE HARRINGTON
the only time i felt any emotion other than rage and disappointment was when steve fell and during the stonathon scene
This and I really did like the graduation scene
Other than that I legit cried in disappointment the entire time
why why why is steve harrington the only redeeming factor of the finale that's so sad
(the graduation scene was good but it was immediately ruined by directly after it)
a part of me honestly would have preferred it if mike did say ily to el because the fact that he still didn't makes everything so much more CONFUSINGGG
david bowie would be disgusted that his song was used for the credits of that episode i think
"friends? no thanks" was cruel work
right??? what the fuck was that? it was so deliberately mean, and from a show perspective, is directly intended to make us think he might be about to say "boyfriends." you can't say that wasn't on purpose.
i can't believe the duffers fucked up his character like this. mike wheeler died after episode seven (except the part when he is the first one to notice that will is in a trance, that was classic mike).
AND THEY PLAYED HEROES AT THE WND JUST TO FUCK WITH US OMG????
i don’t feel like they earned the right to even play it that shit was so ass it felt out of place bc heroes lives solely in the byler canon universe to me lmao
i love my version of s5 with apocalypse, byler angst and mikes pov
apocalypse s5 is so very near and dear to me
like, i can accept that the finale is the end. but it's not the end, you know?
like, that's all the content we get. fine.
but that's not actually how it ends fuck you I decide how it ends
